This thread has been rebooted. Please do not make drive-by or troll posts about the game's development. We would like to keep this thread on-topic. Thank you!

Definitely will keep an eye out for this. Still hoping Star Citizen is a proper competitor to Elite Dangerous once it's out.

I'm looking forward to the flight mechanics panel. They've been making changes to get away from the fps-in-space style.

It would be nice if they could pull patch 3.3 together in time for the event, but there's probably not enough time. It sounds like performance is great with the new object container streaming, but they have a lot of issues to work through.

The only thing stopping me from enjoying 3.2 right now is performance, the fact that I need an SSD for a good framerate is annoying, hopefully that is remedied.

I really should update and play again. Last time I played was about 6 months ago and it was super fun even with what was there.

Will we see more of the single player campaign? Squadron 42? I'd finally buy the game just for that if they ever release it.

Was last year's con where they released an hour or so of Squadron 42 footage? I remember that being awesome. I hope we see an update on that cool city planet as well. Every year it feels like they show really exciting and innovative stuff but the overall progress of the PTU year to year is fairly slim. I hope to see the pace ramp up a bit.

Do you have at least 16GB RAM? Hard drive use during play would have been due to swapping. Object container streaming should help with initial load times and maybe cut down that memory footprint, but I think 8GB RAM + HDD would still struggle (just not as much as before).

Shy got a ban for making a joke? Cmon guys, he was very clearly kidding, he is one of the more active backers in the community. Please look into this.

On topic: great looking thread Boss
Hopefully they'll bring some surprises as we haven't seen some really exciting stuff in a while. This is the right time of the year for it.

Yeah, 16gb DDR3, using an HDD with an i7 4790 and a GTX 1070. I get anywhere from 10fps initially to 30FPS at most, not expecting anything above 30 to be honest but I would love consistency in framerates.

The 3.3 version with OCS will be awesome in performance, i hope this help the people to test better the Universe, also the FOIP could bring the role player gamers out there.

All right, those sound like the usual server-side framerate limitations everyone was running into regardless of configuration... should improve, but hopefully the HDD doesn't become a bottleneck for streaming assets with OCS. Might get some loading hitches.

This is the stream they wanted to charge money for, yes?

Yup - that got turned around pretty quickly once word got out.

Sounds like you folks who follow the game closer than I do are fairly happy with the pace picking up recently then? I've stopped watching AtV and checking the site the last couple of years largely but whenever I checked in it looked like more ships were added but no massive leaps forward. Would certainly be pleased to find that's not the case.

They are mainly making the foundation to work on solid this year. OCS has really been the bottleneck for them and from what I've seen, it is really a game changer.

I believe next year will have all the content improvements. Just going by just the first iteration of scanning and mining has me excited for everything else coming down the line. I'm ready to use my big butt Reclaimer to chew up some salvage.

We might finally be able to get 60 FPS in the shared universe with this patch, so it'll be a huge improvement for playability - they have their hands full with crashes though. Apparently the complexity of the move to OCS is similar to the move to 64 bit.

The way they did it last year was that CitzenCon was mostly about Star Citizen and the Persistent Universe, and in December during the holiday livestream they released the Squadron 42 playthrough. There's no word on if we will or won't see Squadron 42 on the 10th, but I imagine if not on the 10th then somewhere around Christmas.

Is it anywhere close to releasing?

Nope, but they're releasing patches every 3 months or so.

Ships will always be added because that's how they make money to make the game, it's just an unfortunate nature of the beast. It's a bit more difficult to focus on massive leaps when running a live environment because you have to make sure those leaps don't break the game, and end up spending a lot of time on bug fixing. That being said 3.0 was a huge leap, this patch and 3.3.5 should be a huge leap, so far they've added mining, a lot of quality of life improvements, reworked the UI, added player-generated missions. The people keeping up to date with this stuff have been pleased by the pace, we would all love for the game to be fully finished ASAP though. There's a long way to go!

Looking forward to the presentation - they've all been very impressive over the last 2 years.

Can't wait to get a release window for SQ42. Should come out any year now.

Can you mine stuff when you only paid for the base game or do you have to buy a Prospector?

Is there any way to get the ship for less than $160?

Born already knows the answers to these questions, but for anyone reading them who doesn't know:

Of course you'll be able to mine when you buy the game, it doesn't matter if you spend $45 or thousands, everyone will have the same game to play infront of them. We are in an alpha still, so not all of the features are in the game yet like being able to rent or purchase ships with in game money. Right now only those who have graciously helped fund the game by purchasing the Prospector are able to mine, or whoever they lend their ships to. During the PTU phases they do offer a wide list of ships to test so many people can try out mining if the Prospector is on the list. The broader SC community has been pushing hard to get in-game ship renting, everyone here in the Era community wants it in as fast as possible (we have a lot of people here who only have the base package), and the last we've heard the feature should be coming this year. All of us want this feature online as quickly as can be done, and are disappointed it's not in yet. That doesn't change the fact that the mining feature works well in the PU right now and they've successfully developed it and added it in the game. We are all hoping that we get the ship renting/buying feature in soon and I will continue to advocate strongly for it, I want my friends who bought the base package to have the same experience as anyone who's helped fund the game by buying ships.

I'm hyped. Really wanna know more about SQ42 (a proper trailer and release date would be ideal) and ofc the 3.3 PTU with OCS.

Also, ready to melt stuff to get some nice packages.

Based off last year, I'd say Squadron 42 stuff will be handled by the Holiday Livestream in December, but you never know what they'll show! That's why CitCon is so exciting.

But it seems that unless they allow buying ships with the in-game currency you have to pay $160 for mining DLC.
The last thread got locked for posts like these, but to wrap again to anyone wondering:

Yes, if you don't want to wait for the game to come out, or at least wait longer for more features to come in place like buying/renting ships with in-game currency you can help fund the game and buy the Prospector now for real money and have permanent access forever. If you like the game, want to help fund it and have disposable income you're not afraid of risking, do it, otherwise I always suggest just waiting it out and not buying anything and seeing how development goes. Games do need money to be made, and the broader Star Citizen community has been fine with buying ships for real money, so that we all have a better game in the end. Other people might have very valid concerns, and if you're concerned enough then you don't need to play or care about this game, there are many other great games being made. Otherwise you have other options like, waiting for a PTU phase and checking out the Prospector until the PTU ends, or ask someone in the chat or in this community. There is no DLC, and also no subscription for this MMO. As said before, this is an alpha and the game is still in production, some features are being completed quicker than others.

Why? I'm not drive-by posting in any sense of the word. It was a genuine question about how the game works. Why are you so defensive about this?

I watched every single Citizen Con stream so far but have many concerns about the game.
In previous thread you were participating, i wrote an answer for your question.
If you missed the post, you can mine already, just log into PTU, where you have access to all ships.
In near future, maybe even 3.3. patch, there will be ship rental/buy option with ingame credits.

Just to chime in on this concern: I only have a starter package and have been able to test just about every ship and mechanic extensively during the various PTU phases.
This includes bigger ships and mining ships etc.

The new patch includes the first rental mechanics for Arena Commander, which are supposed to flow into ship buying in the larger Universe.
Hopefully they'll be able to iterate on this first design quickly, but personally I don't see this appearing this year. Maybe early next year in the first quarterly patch.

I'm a bit sad that right after I move to Europe they finally do a Citizencon in Austin... was hoping it'd be in Germany again so I could visit.

Still looking forward to it though. OCS being back in 3.3 is pretty huge for performance, and 3.2 fixed most of the progress saving bugs. With those two out of the way it should finally be pretty playable without horrible performance and having to start again from scratch every time you boot it up.

I think they have 3 fully acted mission givers now too with 3.3 right? With a fourth in 3.3.5? On top of all the mobiglas-based missions there should actually be some stuff to do now. Too bad I have to wait until 3.4 before I can get cargo into my 325a...

Speaking for myself, I've been following this game for a long time, bought a lot of ships, and I'm not concerned at all. I'm very much looking forward to CitizenCon 2948!

Yeah, I'm hoping once they add Hurston and the first major city with Lorville, now have FPS missions, plus a few more mission givers and performance will finally be good enough to do those missions without getting a headache it'll start feeling like a real universe. Hopefully it's only up from here in terms of things to do, meaningful missions, gameplay, careers, believable characters and environments around us.

I'm really excited for the 300 series rework, hopefully it really feels like the luxurious ship it should be.

Yeah like I posted in the thread that got locked, I've been watching people play a VR game called Vox Machinae and in that when some one uses VOIP their face appears on a small screen but whilst it doesn't track their eyes/mouth it does track their head/hand, its pretty cool to see.

Im also excited to see the changes to the Mustang, i'm hoping their good.

I do remember us scouting Yela for those high yield rocks and you having a lot more trouble than me keeping that power level under control, you can blame performance but I think it was something else ;) . Starts with S ends with L and has the letters "kil" in the middle.

The Mustang looks awesome, they did an RTV not long ago showing off all the variants.

It was a broken mouse wheel! I swear!!
When performance improves, you'll miss the days I flip over a Caterpillar on landing and bring the entire server to a crawl.

I actually hope that they wont show S42 on citizencon, but instead they will show it on december livestream, but a level in very polished state.

Is SQ42 still intended to be released episodically or is now planned as a full campaign? Not sure if you meant 2020 for the first episode or 2020 for the whole thing.
They plan to release two Episodes, but second episode is basically a sequel. They are only working on first one right now, which will have like 20h+ story.
