First time I'm seeing this. It sucks, but I guess the fact that I'd never imagine him saying this by watching his youtube stuff is a good thing.

The word idiot, moron and lame etc is also used to describe disability should we ban those words too?

Don't forget "retard, stupid, etc...", If we just decided to care for what each word means and who would be offended by it, then we have to ban every single word in the dictionary. Seriously guys try to be rational and let things go by without caring a bit, ease your mind and enjoy this hobby to the fullest.

A lot of people make mistakes during their lives, what really bothers me are the people who are quick to judge and destroy others they don't know personally over schoolyard nonsense. Forgive and move on or stop viewing his content.

You know what really bothers me? People are quick to forgive a scumbag because they gave a half assed apology.

I initially thought "what, did he say fuck?" I say that on a regular basis.

Then I thought "ohhh that f word".

You thought a video game streamer was catching heat for saying the word "fuck"?

Like, come the fuck on.

My first time hearing this. Good to know so I can avoid the guy at all costs in the future. Kinda sad since I used to watch some of his videos, but this is disgusting.

'Scumbag'? Hmmm.

To the people who think it's no big deal go ahead and say it at your job.
It's a rude and insensitive word, but its use is so toothless here, that that's all it is. He's not being homophobic. He's not a scumbag or a terrible person for using vulgar and offensive language, even if it is a word steeped in contentious history. He's just being a dick.

Look through the OP before posting, there's no use in complaining about what "the F word" means. It's like a 30 second video.

I figure no one called him out on it a year ago because the pewdiepie incident hadn't happened yet so it wasn't in the public conscience to do so. Unless I have my dates mixed up.

Not only did I watch the clip, but I knew exactly what OP meant from reading the thread title. Still, it can only help to post the actual word. No reasonable person will condemn another for quoting exactly what Dunkey said, and everyone can discuss the topic at hand without ambiguity or obfuscation.

People are constantly bringing up dumb shit he has said.

Its just that when you have steamers like Buggie who are actively promoting white supremacy and Ninja telling everyone online sexism and harassment doesn't matter and y'all should just pretend women streamers dont exist, Dunkey at times being a edgeloard from the mid 00's feels small fry

Idk why you're surprised. Majority of the gaming public like this kind of stuff in addition to screaming out nigger all the time for no reason. I guess I'm jaded but gamers are kinda shit. People can call them out for it but eh, maybe the climate will change in some years. And it sucks because it seems like the majority of people who actually makes games are NOTHING like this.

Okay first of all fucking yikes I didn't realise Dunkeys said both F and N words in his videos. I don't really pay attention to him but I found some of his vids amusing that my friends showed me.

And second all, fucking y i k e s at some of the comments on this thread.

Then why bother posting?

I'm not defending what he said and if twitch or whatever platform wants to ban him or anyone over saying homophobic slurs even a year removed from the incident that's completely fair. but cmon not only did this happen a year ago nothing even prompted this coming back up, some of you need to addmit that you just like stirring the pot, this isn't about warning people or holding someone accountable, this is just #drama.

Legit question: What is going to be done about it here?

Is going to be frowned upon making threads about his videos or outright forbidden?

Better know if its going to get flagged or not.

It's alright to not judge Dunkey if you think he's changed, since it's been an year since he said that. I don't watch his content so I don't know if that's the case or not, but I will believe people who do. But could we not defend the usage of the word as anything but a homophobic slur? The reason people use it as an insult is because of its homophobic history; even if they don't intend to be homophobic, they are normalizing it and perpetuating the issue.

Haha "six letter f-word" dear lord.

And I'm sure there was a thread about this, people talked about it.

Why does the title say "and no one called him out?"

Leah immediately calls him out...

Should we ban threads about his content? Not getting your logic here.
I guess people are no longer supposed to find him funny or entertaining and refuse to post threads about his videos on principle.

That's assuming everyone even knows this happened. Before today, I did not. and seeing how I'm not instantly finding him morally reprehensible, I guess the thread didn't have the desired effect.

His GF called him out on the stream, and people called him out in threads previously. What's the fascination people have of constantly trying to get other people in trouble by bringing stuff up over and over again.

There's a pretty egregious uncorrected error in both the thread title and the OP.
I just found this while browsing a subreddit, this happened like a year ago and somehow none said anything about this
There was a thread about this on the old place immediately after it happened where people berated and condemned him for it. And people continue to bring it up in every single Dunkey thread on Era, without fall, to this day. There is no shortage of people in our community willing to condemn homophobic slurs, regardless of who says them. It is disingenuous to suggest this incident was "swept under the rug".

Personally, I feel just as strongly now as I did then that this kind of language cannot be accepted, whatever the context. However, I am also willing to forgive people who have genuinely made a mistake and corrected it. As far as I'm aware (and I could be wrong, please correct me if I am!), this is the only time Dunkey has ever been recorded using that word, and he has not used it once since. If I saw evidence of Dunkey behaving as a serial homophobe I would drop him immediately and stop watching his videos.

That's just my opinion, however, and I understand there are those who feel that "even once is too much" and cannot forgive him. What I can't tolerate, however, is the level of vitriol being thrown back and forth in this thread in-between those who are trying to have an actual conversation on this serious issue. There should be no hatred between members in what is a distinctly anti-hatred discussion - unless you are genuinely a homophobe, in which case, thank you for making your offensive views public so that you can be banned :).

"Six letter f word" took me a while to figure out.
Banning words will lead us to speak in crosswords.

If he was already called out and he apologized, why continue to bring it up? It was a terrible mistake, but there is no sense in dragging the dude for eternity. What would constitute justice for you OP?
Him getting banned from YouTube? The dismantling of his career?

i enjoy dunkey's content but between this and the questionable connection the guy has had with jontron it's hard not to be a bit wary of him. his newer stuff hasn't really had any problematic aspects so it seems he has improved, but it's a shame he has never outright apologised.

A lot of people make mistakes during their lives, what really bothers me are the people who are quick to judge and destroy others they don't know personally over schoolyard nonsense. Forgive and move on or stop viewing his content.
destroy others? i guess if you conflate criticising and discussion with 'destruction'. should we not criticise those who should know better from using hurtful language? how will people ever learn if we constantly coddle them and ignore all of their transgressions? and - unless i missed it - i'm not sure whether dunkey has ever apologised for this, so what are people supposed forgive exactly?

I thought it was "fucker" at first, had to read most of the thread to figure out the actual word. No need to speak in riddles OP.

it's not much different from body shaming. but if you hear someone and all you can concentrate on is how you think their voice is weird, and then that's all you reply to... that's just being adolescent IMO.

Dunkey saying the f-word is adolescent. Someone pointing out that a person who streams for a living doesn't have a radio voice is just an observation.
