Hey let's get even more pessimistic! The silver lining people are seeing, that the tightening of the races are caused by Kavanaugh and will now reverse, has yet to be verified. Repubs may stay fired up.

Don't give up hope, but there's potentially zero upside to this.

At this point, I wouldn't even be mad if Canada formed a coalition army with Europe and invaded us.

anyone you'd like to call out? I've seen people be optimistic but giving them the benefit of the doubt? on this forum? strong words there

Explain how you could be optimistic about Kavanaugh not getting in without giving any of the GOP here benefit of the doubt? I was getting a tongue lashing from the usuals like Kharvey just a couple days ago for saying this shit was inevitable. Done playing these pedantic games, it's way past time for people to start being realistic about what the GOP are willing to do and what they are about. These are not reasonable human beings, they have no empathy.

It's time for people to start realizing calling their phones and getting full voicemail boxes (which is intentional on their part) and writing them doesn't amount to shit. These people give no fucks. Stop burning yourselves out on that shit and concentrate on the only thing that matters at this point. Voting them out.

Imagine thinking Harris, Hirono, and Booker aren't milquetoast Dems
Milquetoast wasn't the most apt word on my part, so let me restate it:

Dems with the ability to string along a questioning. In other words, in this context, someone with a prosecutorial or trial lawyer background. Or at least demonstrated ability (like Hirono) to actually sputter some smoke, if not fire.

I mostly just think the "everyone gets 5 minutes and the first minute is spent thanking the person for being there" setup didn't allow for any meaningful probing or ability to build momentum.

zero upside except a larger probability to take the senate

So who wants to welcome in our God Emperor Trump once term limits are abolished and he can no longer be impeached?

I don't think I've felt this sick since Trump won the electoral vote.

Bingo. That speech sounded like she had already made up her mind the moment Kavanaugh was nominated.

They all had.

Murk was always the expendable no which allows the myth of the moderate GOPer to live, Collins was always yes. This is all a performance. Always is, and they do it because it works. Because the media and the American public need to believe there's nuance and depth, that it's not simply black and white... but sometimes it just is and when you deny it, you create fiction. Alas here we are.... watch out for Manchin's potential yes vote to then become framed as Kavanaugh gets bipartisan support... cause all it takes is one Dem wcall of a sudden it's a bilateral action.

Where are all you optimists now?

Fuck this country.

Fuck the government.

Fuck Republicans.

Fuck everything.

Still right here? Not many of us actually expected the Republicans to not force through Kavanaugh regardless of what happened. The mere fact that Flake got flakey and Murkowski looks like she will vote no is honestly surprising and the end result of this is likely far better than if he just drifted through without exposing himself as a belligerent partisan asshat and none of the accusations against him came to light.

You guys ever think about how great it would be if nothing existed at all? No matter coalescing after the big bang, just nothing. Seems peaceful and good, very preferable to this hellhole planet where our idiot species managed to do such terrible things to ourselves and each other.

This kind of thing is all I think about all day long at this point.

Manchin.

I still remember his face when he talked to the Sandy Hook parents.

Must be a good actor.

Yes it does, don't be an idiot.

Seeing as this country's only thing going for it since the 1970s was social rights, and conservatives sole goal now is to eradicate them, what fucking future is there?

Hell, the lack of economic rights is also playing a factor into the erosion of social rights, and every day we hit new records of precarity and inequality.
