getting ready to make that money

even with bad reviews my friends & i are all fascinated and going
First week anyway.

I'll still be shocked if this movie doesn't crater in the second week. If Venom had that much appeal to people, would make me all the more sadder that he could potentially get saddled with three films this bad.

Best case scenario, it gets a sequel but it becomes the next Spirit of Vengeance style failure as it slowly drifts back to Marvel in a decade or so.

Can someone put a few other superhero Thursday preview numbers for comparison sake? Curious how that number for Venom is.

Edit: Nevermind, I saw it in the article.

If Venom's Thursday night cash holds up, it will be ahead of such previews as Ant-Man ($6.4M) Thor: Dark World ($7.1M) and under Sony's Amazing Spider-Man 2 which did $8.7M. Some believe Venom can really excel tonight as it's still early in the West and possibly do more than $7M. Thor: Dark World went on to do $31.8M on its first Friday with Thursday repping 22% of that number. Dark World opened to $85.7M ultimately. That was off a Rotten Tomatoes score of 66% fresh while Venom is battling 30% Rotten.

If Venom exceeds $8M tonight, it will likely rank as the best preview night ever in October, Paramount/Blumhouse's Paranormal Activity 3 from 2011 owning the current record with $8M and that was off midnight showtimes.

It's a good preview number, that said I expect the weekend to be extremely front loaded

No matter what happens little monsters will be happy about the film that ends up on top.

There's no way Venom becomes a financial bomb right? If I recall correctly, the budget before marketing wasn't all that much when compared to typical comic book film budgets. I wonder if Rothman will look at the critical thrashing and not green light anymore side adventures with these properties.

If money is made money is made. Legs are the most important thing, far more important than critical reception.

Both Amazing Spider-Man films grossed over $700M, and yet Sony did the smart thing and got Marvel to come make the films for them. Sure Venom won't be a financial sinkhole for them, but I don't know if I'd give the go ahead for more of this.

I mean that was down to whole load of factors which also involve Pascal being "fired" and all the shit involving North Korea, which somehow absurdly seems small fry these days.

TASM2 was a bomb because the movie's budget was, conservatively, $250mm, if I recall. I think I remember hearing it was quite a bit more.

Rothman's ain't letting that shit happenunder his reign.

New projections are in and ASiB is headed to around $40 million based on an estimated $15+ million Friday. It'll be interesting to see if that increases over the weekend.
