They are throwing a lot of high profile talent at this, that's great. And if Filoni nails his episode, that'll make a good case to get his own movie someday.

Not really feeling that list aside from taika tbh. Was hoping they got some ppl more familiar with westerns.

Filoni seems like a great get for star wars franchise fans tho. This is big for him too moving onto their big live action show. Might propel his career onto a movie in the franchise one day?
Thats what I'm thinking or his own live action show one day if not the big screen.

Marco Polo cost $90m for season 1. $200m was for the entire series, which works out to a lower budget than this. The Get Down also cost well less than $200m for a season, but did cost more per episode (reportedly $16m average vs. this's $12.5m, but we don't know how the runtimes compare). I don't see solid numbers for the other two.

Altered Carbon Season 1 was $60-$70m. I'm very excited for this $200m budget.

Nice to have Filoni confirmed. When Making Star Wars mentioned another MCU director would be joining the team a few days ago I really didn't expect it to be Taika.

Huh. Taika Waititi? I was in for Favreau and Filoni, but now this jumped even higher on my interest scale.

Has Star Wars armour ever actually protected anyone from anything? Seems utterly pointless because the laser gun blasts are one-hit-kills anyway. Just limiting your mobility for no real value.

Looks cool, though.
Depends on the armor and weapons

In canon its mostly overpowered and illegal weapons that beat stormtrooper armor so easily.
Han's blaster for example.

movies are the thing people were ragging on her the most about. way harder now a days to get a woman director for a big budget film not so much for TV unless you're talking about like 3-5 years ago
Movies are the thing people are ragging on to her about because that's the only thing that existed, and will exist, until this live action show comes out. And, I mean, what project is she supposed to hire a women director for? The only thing coming soon is RJ's trilogy, which he will director the first movie, and the other 2 have no director. You also have D&D's movies but those also don't have any directors.

Literally the only thing coming soon, that they can announce directors for, they hired two women but this is somehow bad because it's for TV, a TV show that is getting an insane amount of backing from Disney because it will be one of their tone poles for their streaming service. We also don't have a movie announced for 2020, so for intents and purposes, this is the Star Wars thing for 2020.

That's one awesome roster for this show. Pretty stoked to see what the larger Galaxy is like under the New Republic, and the Mandalore stuff in TCW and Rebels were great. And hey, maybe we'll get some insight on Sabine for those who followed Rebels.

Mandalorians and Filloni? Yeah it's gonna be good.

Regarding Mandalorians and what they are though. I took it as they were originally just regular mercenaries but then became a united mercenary band under a single ruler (Mandalore the Great). After he was defeated many chose to remain identified as Mandalorians and settled on the planet that's now Mandalore. Granted I don't think any of that's got any basis in the new material.

???

Just wait until they are all out and sub for a month. You paid 10 dollars for a season of high quality TV. Boom.

These services aren't some damn phone contract your stuck paying for. Millions of people unsub and sub back for Game of Thrones every year.
That's what I do for GoT and Counterpart. Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon are constant; HBO and Starz are temporary for when a show I want to see is airing

Will we ever get a movie/tv show based on this fabled new republic?
No, I don't think we'll ever get any live-action media wholly focused on it.

Most of the New Republic content so far has featured in the novels like Bloodline and the Aftermath trilogy. I don't think the political side of Star Wars interests many potential writers/directors or Lucasfilm overall. Rian Johnson is the only one who's shown a bit of interest by helping flesh out the New Republic's background in Bloodline.

I fucking hope we never too. What's the point of a New Republic show? To see shit that ultimately doesn't matter since they all get blown up in a single shot?

We've seen Mandalorian armor takes shots that 1-Hit-Kill stormtroopers. It is much stronger.

One Star Wars movie a year was clearly a mistake. One film every two or even three years seems about right. But now they're also introducing this live action show that will once again make SW films feel less like must-see movie-going events.

They released three consecutively that made more than a billion each.

Solo came out four months after TLJ and it stumbled for a number of reasons, one of which was arguably that they broke with the once a year release schedule.

Also, we've had SW TV shows before. If the quality is there, it's hardly going to harm the brand.

The Clone Wars show was phenomenal and we knew all of that was going to end in tragedy. It works even better knowing that Anakin and the Republic will fall.

Oh, maybe your post is sarcasm. If so, sorry.

Has Dave Filoni ever directed live action before? Any examples of people switching to directing live action after being in animation for so long?

I wonder if this is a test drive to see if Taika Waititi will get a full SW flick at some point?

I'd love to see them get super creative and divergent with some of the spin-offs, assuming people can accept the idea that not every SW film has to break 1 billion at the box office.

I'm reading trough Deborah Chow's IMDB list and she directed one of my favorite Mr. Robot episode: Brave Traveller.

They really have great directors for this.

It's not sarcasm. I've said it before, but the reason the prequel era had potential was because we literally knew nothing about The Old Republic and The Jedi. We didn't know what The Old Republic looked like, we didn't really understand how the galaxy governed itself, we didn't know how the Jedi Order was structured, we didn't know what Jedi were taught, we didn't know how exactly the Empire came about along with Stormtroopers, we really didn't know anything. These were all vague, nebulous concepts and references in the OT. The prequel era showed us the supposed "paradise" before the Fall.

However, the Post-ROTJ/Sequel Era doesn't have this same potential. We know what a functional Jedi Order looks like at this point, we know what a Galactic Republic looks like, we know the major planets (Coruscant, for example), we know exactly how the galaxy functions and operates. Thus, there isn't the same mystery aspect the prequels had of fleshing out a whole galaxy. Instead, it would be just witnessing the downfall of a Republic, again. I'm not interested in seeing that.

This show has me hyped and I've been feeling down on SW lately. Something like this is what the Anthology movies should had been, brand new stories with brand new characters that don't necessarily tie into the PT/OT.

Pretty excited about this too because it seems to have shades of the cancelled Underworld TV show and the 1313 game.

Wow, that shot looks fantastic! Production value through the roof! I'm very interested in this now. Taika Waititi directing an episode makes me even more excited!
