Speaking of game crashes, if you do end up playing on Classic, I would highly recommend that you save your progress as soon as you reach Chapter 7, right before entering the theater. My game crashed as soon as I entered it and I've heard how it mostly crashes on Chapters 7 and 8 on Classic mode.

As far as avoiding certain sections goes, I found a cool reference video where this guy got past the Chapter 4 horde encounter without using a single bullet. It's a nice little solution to get through that area if you feel like cheating. I remember being slightly disappointed that I didn't discover the trick before I got past that area.

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I'll give Classic a try this weekend and see how it feels.

Evil Within was my personal GOTY in 2014. For all its flaws I thought the gameplay, enemies, pacing and level design were brilliant. Evil Within 2 is an almost completely different game. There are tiny sprinkles of what I loved about the first, but the edges are shaved off into a completely bland and mediocre experience. If the first game didn't exist, I would probably like this more, as it's certainly a competently made game, but as it is, it just makes me sad.

Yeah, I have similar feelings about this sequel. I wouldn't go so far as to call it bland and mediocre, but I will say that despite all it's improvements, I feel like there is something missing from this game that made the first one so enjoyable for me.

Also, replaying it on NG+ made me realize how much I wish I could skip some of the more story-driven and less-interactive parts of this game.

Without spoiling anything, I gotta say that I love the choice of music for the end credits.

I disliked much of the first EW game and many of the mechanics it used. EW2 is better in almost every way for me personally. The loss of the match mechanic, while it was novel, is not missed.

Oh my god I suck at this game. Playing on survival, I'm dying all the time. I'm usually not this bad at games.

Does anyone else find themselves thinking about playing on casual?

I was loving this game up until I increased the weapon clip capacity on my empty shotgun and it didn't give me a full clip.

I'm shocked, but mostly sad.

Just bought the vanilla edition from game during the black friday deals.
I wanted to know if this game does have DLCs, because I can't find nothing.

I really loved the first game all its DLCs episodes.

Here's a short video about how to kill the boss in ch11 without wasting ammo.
You don't need to buy any skills or weapon upgrades either,it's 'Nightmare' run simulating Classic in a way(it's the same but with autosaves/unlimited saves).
I was just practicing my tactics before doing Classic again.

Wait, how do you go so fast while crouching?

Pretty sure he just points at the wall and presses the Cover-button and before reaching the enemy he stops the animation. I'd guess it would work just as well with the skill that allows you to run up to enemies from behind while crouched.

Wait, how do you go so fast while crouching?

It's exactly that,it should work with the 'Predator' skill as well.
I use the 'rush to cover+cancel' combo all the time tbh.

This game just came out last month at full price. It was later reduced to £30 and now you can buy it ~£20. Why? Did the game sold poorly?

It's harder in the beginning until you start leveling up your skills and weapons. In the mean time, only fight monsters with stealth. If they spot you, run away. The monsters will quickly forget about you and go back to their patrol route. Then try to kill them with stealth again.

Stealth is extremely OP in this game. Focus on stealth killing the majority of the enemies until you upgrade your weapon skills. And even then, stealth is the way to go.

I never finished The Evil Within, but I saw some gameplay of The Evil Within 2 a couple months ago and knew I really wanted to play it. I decided to finish the first one over the past few weeks and there were moments that I didn't think I'd make it through. I found some parts really difficult. I had dropped it initially because I hated the black bars on the screen and the chapter 6 boss was extremely difficult for me. The story didn't start making sense to me until close to the end, but then I liked it so much that I decided to play the additional story DLC. At the end of all, I really liked the base game and the DLC. The story made sense to me and it was great to see it from different character perspectives.

Now, here I am. Fresh off The Evil Within and the story DLC, with The Evil Within 2 on the PS4 Pro and I'm loving it. I really like the 1260p unlocked frame rate, even though it isn't 100% stable. It seems highly improved, both visually and gameplay wise, over the original. I look forward to talking more about the story once I'm finished.

I'm a big fan of survival horror so despite not liking the first Evil Within (played on ps3) I'm gonna go ahead and purchase this since it's 50% off.

Anyways, my question is: Should I play it on nightmare mode? Or survival? I'm sure I could handle hard mode if it's not TOO hard. I've beaten Last of Us on Grounded for example. I just don't want it to take away the fun of the game.

Definitely play it on Nightmare! I beat it on Nightmare and it's pretty well balanced. I didn't have much of an issue until the late game.

So uh. That chapter 11 boss. Any tips?
Still playing on survival.
I waste all my ammo and still can't bring him down.

Just keep shooting him. Ammo spawns around the area when you're out. Try shooting the canisters to freeze him and score an easy headshot.
I've tried that. Takes forever!! Ammo for days. Now I'm using smoke bombs and trying to stealth him. Only takes 4 hits. Landed 2 so far. It's tough.

The first part of Fungo's The Evil Within 2 review is up!

Never seen his videos before but this is pretty much spot on with how i felt, although i didn't run into as many bugs as him.
Absolute heartbreak looking back and i think it was nearly all due to the unfair or lost in translation criticisms of the the first game.
All the sequel needed to do was simple refining, a better camera/animations and polish up the frame rate.
Sadly instead of polishing or refining what the first game did they strangely went in completely new direction and for me it didn't work at all....which is a huge shame especially for the few people that enjoyed the first game.
It's an even bigger worry as i'm almost certain it means the end of the series, if it ain't broke don't fix it really should have been in the heads of the developers when making this sequel.
They had a few clear and obvious things which they could have improved upon from the first game but instead they change almost everything, including the amazing art direction and designs.

That being said i'm actually pleased other people like the game even if i don't agree because it means there still might be a small chance we might see another game in the series.

I'm on my first playthrough on Chapter 8(?), the one where you have to destroy 2 pieces of Stefano's art. I'm really enjoying it so far. It's very different than TEW1 but still very enjoyable to me. The semi-open-world chapters are surprisingly good and are creepy in an emergent-gameplay way as compared to a tightly designed corridor a la TEW1. I think I prefer the roller-coaster ride of TEW1 but I'm really enjoying this sequel as well. I'm happy to hear that the last few chapters are more tightly designed; I can't wait!

Stealth is seriously so OP in this game. Still satisfying though. As Michael Huber would put it: FEEL THE KILL.

I think TEW is better than 2 but 2 is great. Been playing for about 20 hours or so and on chapter 9. Just taking my time and exploring everything. The open world design leads to some great moments. Even my girlfriend has been enjoying watching me play through the whole thing. My only gripes as far as changes go are this

I do not like the story or characters. They are as interesting as wet paper and while this was true for the first game as well, at least there it was heavily cloudy and made little enough sense to kind of conceal the fact during your playthrough. Here, everything is in your face and spelled out for you which is a shame because I feel the game has potential to stand on the premise of exploring the mind without the daughter motivation or shadow organization. It feels like beautiful art at times, duct taped to a shitty movie. That sucks.

I do not like the lack of traps and matches. There was a huge layer of strategy there that is now gone. Heck, some levels could be almost entirely about surviving traps in the first game and they were tense and satisfying. There is great sadness in seeing a monster laying on the ground, knowing he is alive and not having a resource specifically available to reward my observation while saving on the stuff I need for combat. Such a let down.

Other than that though, it is an extremely good game. Happy to have it in my collection and I feel it stands right next to the first game proudly. Just a different flavor. Like Orange Crush and Grape Crush. They kind of compliment each other.

Just started TEW2 the other night, currently on Chapter 3 put about 3/4 hours in and I really can't seem to settle on it which is killing me with how much I adored TEW 1.

Literally just pottering around Union, running from the majority of the enemies as my aiming seems have really gone to pot, picked up a broken Sniper,Rifle, Harpoon Launcher and found some residual energy from two Merc types then called it a night. As it stands I'm not really "feeling" Union as a location so far, please tell me it gets more "TEW" with it's locations later on.

Finished the game a couple of days ago. Really liked it and welcomed all the changes from the first game. The exploring of the more wider levels felt exciting and together with the more narrow levels was good in terms of variety.
The one thing I found wierd was the implementation of side missions, they did not add so much to the game.. They could have added a lot more of them together with better explained storylines and that also would have made exploration more depth.

Played on nightmare for my first run and thought it was well balanced. I loved the atmosphere and art design, good enemy/boss variation.
I really hope we get a third installment.

I've said this kind of thing before, but I prefer the antiquated survival horror style in the first game.. However, this sequel was still good, still a lot of fun, and I like that kind of freshness coming out if a sequel in an age where everything has a sequel and those sequels are expected not to deviate from the play book set by the former game.

I don't think I need another game in the 'series', not sure that was ever necessary.. But I'd love to see a new horror game from the same developer.

Any tips on the laughing buzzsaw carrying body parts creature?

I do my best to avoid them, but that chapter they are everywhere.
Just taking on one of them feels like I'm going thru more than half my resources.

Bought this on black friday. Didn't really like the first one that game and didn't finish it, even though I do like the style and atmosphere.
The first hour of TEW2 is stellar! One of the bests I've ever played. From a purely aesthetic point of view, it's drop-dead gorgeous. Some good tension, horror, homages and gore in those first minutes. The fact that it's the intro and that the feeling of safety is steadily taken from you makes for a great start.
Got into the first segment in Union, the gameplay gets a little wonky, like the first game (and like Bethesda games apart from Doom, for me). I really want to enjoy this, as I really like the atmosphere and everything about the marketing of this game clicked with me (but I can see right away that gameplay will end up being a problem)
