I hope the modding process gets more streamlined. I don't wish to replace any buttons and also I don't understand in the tutorial the purpose of adding two more buttons when the volume and power buttons are going unused unless I missed an explanation for that.
The power button is a toggle and the volume is a three setting toggle. Neither are push buttons and I don't think would connect into the USB board without changing the connector since they went into the other CPU board. It's easier to hook up new buttons than utilize those.

thanks for the reply

I have used retropie but it's been a while. is there a way to have a button combination work as the select button instead?

If not, how feasible is it to just replace those two buttons with regular buttons? I'm really trying to avoid any drilling.

I love the old arcade games. I don't see the point in such a bulky item for a few games though. Other than it looking cool, it's just not practical compared to a Pi 3. You can either keep that $35 device in a small enough form factor to fit in your pocket, and use a bluetooth PS4 or XBX controller or whatever, or integrate it into a small cabinet yourself.

I definitely want one of these (either the SF2 cab OR the Final Fight cab)... interested to see the modding video for a pandora's box... not interested in drilling holes and everything else required to get a pi running inside of one of these... also, I know he says not to, but I'd probably spend the extra money for nice joysticks and buttons... this would be end up being my go to machine, so probably worth it. Obviously, I'm not as much of an enthusiast as he is... but that's probably more of a matter of time than anything.

Might as well just get one of these instead, then- https://www.recroommasters.com/Xtension-Bartop-scaled-down-arcade-machines-s/99.htm

Don't see the point in getting a lower-quality Arcade 1up cab when you can get something much better for a little more. Unless someone comes up with a super-easy mod for Arcade 1up machines, my interest in them is pretty much gone, at least for this first wave of machines.

I actually like the authentic artwork on 1up arcade cabs... i'm not too worried about their build quality... the cab seems sturdy enough for me and the screen seems to actually look decent. Just get some new joysticks and buttons in there and I'm good to go!

Arcade1Up dimensions: 45.8" H x 23" D x 19" W, approx. 63 lbs
Rec Room Xtension Alpha-Cade 3/4 scale: 23.15" D x 23.75" W x 46" H, 60 lbs

I just looked at a side by side pic. It's oddly shaped compared to the Arcade1Up cabinet. I really don't like the ratio they shaped it.

I'm seeing people having troubles pulling off special moves in SF2. I guess this is not worth it if you don't plan to mod it

You could get the same artwork printed up and added. That company might even be able to do it for you; am not sure how that works.

The quality on the 1up machines doesn't seem up to par for $300 so I'm interested in alternatives. It seems like their releases are getting other home arcade makers to try cheaper models so I'm just waiting to see what pops up.

Would rather have it be a bit wider to more easily accommodate two players. Am also way more interested in the bar top version and wish Arcade 1up offered that kind of configuration.

The more compact design of the Arcade 1Up cab, just seems to be more suited for what I'm looking for. It's a floor top cab, that is narrow enough to fit in my game room, while also providing a proper 4X3 display that's perfect for retro games. Most of the other home arcade cabs I've seen around, seem to be design for widescreen displays or require a more intensive set up process (which I rather not be bothered with). Although, for folks looking for something more high quality, I can understand them looking elsewhere
Just a note: it isn't a proper 4:3 display, but 5:4. 1280x1024, not 1280x960. Ratio is a bit off.

I know some folks don't notice...but not quite 4:3. Another one of those lack of attention to detail issues with these cabs.

I'm considering the Recroom masters cab also. You can run overlays on the sides of a 16:9 display to give some of the artwork / instructions etc to use that extra space, and the elbow room would be welcome for 2p.

I don't have it set up right now on my Pi because I don't want static overlays on my OLED (I already have Overwatch burned into it), but it is pretty cool.

Which people though?
I had no trouble with the sticks and buttons at EVO. I could see people who haven't played SF2 in years and used to the super lenient inputs of SF IV and V being unable to do things at first until they get the timing right again. People said the same thing when SF30th came out. While the sticks might not be the absolute best, I think it might be more a personal thing since many of us don't have that issue.

I had someone playing on a cheap chinese arcade stick and he complained that the sticks were terrible and he couldn't shoryuken in Super Turbo because of it. Sticks were swapped with Sanwa everything and he still couldn't do them half the time. Too much SFIV.

I also saw someone at EVO trying to DP with the SF IV and V shortcut and saying that DPs don't work on the Arcade 1up cabs. When we told him he had to do the motion fully in SF2, he couldn't do them.

Ended up bumping into a store display unit earlier. It was demoing Asteroids, so I didn't get to test a stick, but the buttons didn't feel too bad. Won't beat the ones on my stick, but they seem ok at least.

All I can say, is if they came out with a Konami 4 player beatemup cabinet at this pricepoint it will be mine (Ideally- Ninja Turles arcade 1 & 2 + Simpsons would be perfect). I know this is small and probably cheapish quality, but for the price I'll take it to just be a cool fixture in a game room.

Unfortunately TMNT has a mess of licencing issues. Arcade1up would need to get permission from Konami for the ROMs, Nickelodeon for the brand, and get permission from Activision (which I believe currently has the rights to TMNT video games). There might even be further complications: When Konami put out TMNT 3D beat-em-ups in the early 2000s with the arcade games as unlockable bonuses, they had to excise the original theme song and voice acting due to licencing issues.

What I'd give for an arcade cabinet for classic driving titles like Outrun, Chase HQ and my personal favourite, Konami's WEC Le Mans 24.

Plus, I'm not sure how they could do a 4 player cab with their current size... I agree though that a Konami beat 'em up cab would be great (a Capcom beat 'em up cab would be better though!).

If they come out with the rumoured Mortal Kombat cab then that will probably be enough to get me on board. I unfortunately don't have space for a full size cab so this would probably be my best option.

Since Namco has to pay licensing fees to the American guys who developed Ms. Pac-Man, Namco tends to split them up (see: GBA Namco Museum and Pac-Man Collection, separate Ms. Pac-Man mobile app that works completely differently from Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man as DLC for Pac-Man Museum, etc.). I wouldn't be shocked to see a Ms. Pac-Man cabinet in the pipeline later on if the Pac-Man unit is a hit.
Or they can do a multi game with the four Namco games available (Pac-Man, Pac-Man Plus, Galaga, Galaxian) and add Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga '88 and Dig Dug onto that.

This is the reason most people will get one It's a mini cab. It's not really meant to be the product arcade hardcore builders are looking for.

It's a casually aimed product that is licensed (people seem to forget this and point to the hundreds of games you can get "buying" a Pandoras box) and ready to put together in mins.

I think there's a market for it.

Glad that they're addressing the paint chipping issue on the control panel. I'll probably ask for one as soon as I buy my cabinet next week. The only issue is that I intend on doing ETA Prime's mod, which means that I'll have to find a place other than the control panel to put in the select buttons. I don't want to have to try and cut through the plexiglass.

Is the trade in deal still active at Gamestop? I thought it went to the 14th or 15th but I don't see it on the website anymore.

They had one of these set up for display in Gamestop (SFII model) and it seemed pretty damn good in terms of build quality and capturing the look and feel of the original cabinets.

I finally got to try one out at my local gamestop (SF Model) and as other have stated the buttons and stick quality are really bad, they feel really cheap and springy, the LCD screen quality is also horrible, it has a lot backlight bleeding even while playing in a lit enviroment.

Overall if you really want one because it'll look cool in a gaming room I would highly recommend modding it and installing better sticks and buttons.

Wow, the hands-ons I've seen have been positive about the controls, they thought the buttons and stick quality were better than expected. Are you maybe a tournament player or something? Some of them have also said the screen was surprisingly good, very bright.

How about a bartop version?

And then a smaller cheaper Switch version of said bartop where it's basically a big ass arcade stick for Switch to slot into? >_>

Basically around ion icade size. Thanks.

Who said the sticks and buttons are really bad? They aren't Sanwa but they are better than many of the cheap buttons I've seen in Pandora units etc.

I'm a tourney player and own like 20 different sticks, always messing around with buttons and different levers. I played a few matches of the SF2 one at EVO and thought the stick felt decent (I always test doing uppers on both sides and didn't miss any), but the buttons felt really bad. Like cheap happ buttons. Probably okay for people that remember these machines, especially for this price, but not the best.

Definitely a YMMV thing. I wasn't expecting much from the machines and came away pretty impressed.

Today's the official release date! Anybody here get one yet?

FedEx dropped mine off yesterday. I had initially ordered Asteroids and Centipede, but cancelled my order once I tried it at Evo. When Best Buy put the Atari 12 in 1 cabinet up for preorder I decided to order since those were all the games I wanted anyway and who knows, maybe they fixed some of the problems I saw?

Anyway it looks like the 12 in 1 is actually worse from the videos posted by the one guy who managed to get an early one so I'm going to ride out that 45 day return policy and see if the problems get resolved...

Well, that's a relief, although I think I'm going to hold off opening mine until I see more feedback on the controls.

It's interesting that they let you use the buttons instead of the spinner (which wasn't good at all on the cabinets I tried) but why not use the X axis of the trackball? It probably works better than the crappy spinner they are using and it should work the same way...

I canceled my order after first hearing of the paint rub off at TGS, but since they are addressing it I'll pick up the SF2 cab in a few weeks.

I still want it since it's a tiny cab.

His is obviously defective, I've seen a few videos of the game, and only that one video is like that. Some others complain that the spinner isn't free-moving, but the game isn't slow and choppy.
