It's not bad? Minus the below:

In DC Universe's Titans, Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) stabs a guy in the balls with a pair of garden shears.

IGN (7.7):
Titans relies too much on violence to make an impact in its first episode, but there's definite potential.

DC Universe's inaugural foray into scripted television with Titans stumbles initially, but finds its way to come into its own. There will be criticisms of it's gritty tone, there'll be those who say it's "unnecessary" — which may be deserved — but if you tune out the noise, you'll see Titans could stand as one of DC Comics best superhero adaptations.

That they ultimately stumble in the first few episodes isn't a surprise; but fans who stick around after the first few weeks might be surprised to discover the heroes they know and love. Perhaps, then, the regular streaming method is the one fans should take: wait until the first few episodes are up, and then dive in.

The cast is at the core of what makes Titans so enjoyable, but it's also dependent on Geoff Johns and Akiva Goldsman's script, which manages to surprise and entertain while telling what should be a reasonably rote and recognizable story. The writing pair throw in some great curve balls, and the driving conflict of a doomsday group attempting to hunt down Raven to bring on the end of the world is a pretty great one, which fully justifies the show's quick descent into horror-tinged darkness. The pilot also has a wonderfully dark and creepy cliffhanger that once again promises something different from what we've come to expect from a superhero show.

"Titans" isn't up to par with a Netflix/Marvel superhero streaming experience. But there are enough things they could do to take it to that level if this series plays its cards right.

I actually liked Titans so much I couldn't put in down. I'd definitely watch more than one season of this so I look forward to what's to come. If you're looking for good TV, this is it. Titans is the DC Comics series that you've been waiting for.

Titans is...curious, to say the least. Again, it's a story that is a drastic shift, tonally-speaking, from most other recent incarnations of these characters. And in the end, that's what might make the show worth coming back to as its episodes are dropped weekly over the next few months. All of the titular Titans are on the run from forces they can't quite comprehend, and even though none of them know it, that transience is slowly bringing them all together. Even if grimdark murderverses aren't your thing, Titans is worth checking out because it's trying in earnest to be something you don't quite expect and, in a world that's being increasingly dominated by cookie cutter, live-action comic book adaptations, it stands out.

They've already greenlit season 2.

I predict a Legends of Tomorrow-esque retooling.

Looks like the lowest budget cosplay level tier of TV possible from the trailers, so this isn't surprising at all.

Fuck, just started reading that review and already I'm rollin'

It's Riverdale with zero self-awareness. Gotham without a whiff of fun. It's Arrow if The CW allowed for gratuitous, minutes-long shots of dudes getting beaten with a stick. All put together, Titans lands just about as gracefully as The Flying Graysons.

Fuck, that's cold. Colder than the BO thread for BvS's second week where it was described as having "legs like Barbra Gordon."

There's leaders, and there's followers, but I'd rather be a Dick than a swallower.

A lot of people are saying that the show is actually pretty decent and that Starfire is the best part. I'm excited now!

Yeah...that Collider review has something else to say...

Meanwhile, in a completely different show, Koriand'r wakes up bloodied in a car outside Austria with no memory of who she is other than A) She has the ability to become living flame, burning people to a crisp, and B) She is searching for Rachel. If you ever wanted to watch beloved DC Comics character Starfire cut a bloody, amnesia-fueled killing spree across Central Europe, this is the portion of Titans' first few episodes that will interest you.

I love how this essentially starts out with, "You know how we've all been wondering, 'Why can't we have a super over the top violent, dark, gritty show that's also suuuuper campy?' well now it's here!" Who exactly asked for that?

Suicide Squad fans, maybe?

Yeah BWoog if you're going to start a review thread, I do think it's fair to update the thread with more reviews. Not hard to find a handful of them now.

You have to take all reviews with a grain of salt when it comes to this stuff. My brother is a huge DC Comic fan but he loves all DC movies..because hes blinded by being a DC fan. So i'm not going to take the opinion of people who go to conventions and are just blind to if its actually good or not.

Suicide Squad fans, maybe?

I.. have no idea how to even respond.

Really? So Arrow and Gotham don't fill that quota for you already?

I haven't watch Gotham but isn't that Gotham

That's part of my point. Like.. there are other shows, specifically DC shows, that play in both of the areas of violence and camp. And the DC movies are struggling with their take on dark and gritty. So to take both those bits of information and to dive into even more dark and gritty and gratuitous while mixing camp that, judging from reviews, is hard to determine whether or not it's intended/self aware just seems odd. And I don't imagine a ton of people will watch this like, "Finally! Exactly what I wanted!"

I mean I'm sure some will like it. Others will tolerate it for the characters they love. But it doesn't seem like a missing stylistic take.

This sounds horrible. I'm shocked that people are praising starfire even though everything said about her seems so awful.
