I think a whole lot of people here are going to be severely disappointed if/when this comes to fruition. This isn't going to be some major advancements or crazy changes, Nintendo will save that for Switch 2 in 2021 or so.

I also laughing at people who are like, glad I waited! , Like seriously I will have played and enjoyed so much on my switch by the time it hits its 30 month birthday when you finally come on board. Like did yall wait until the Ps4Pro or X? Too funny.

Honestly just think of things they can do with parts that are much more cheaper and more easily sourced now than 2 years ago. Like more internal storage, higher quality screens, engineering tweaks to Joycons, better battery, better wifi parts etc. I wouldn't expect a whole lot more power. Hell the Switch doesn't even use the Tegra at full power.

Put me in the "Smaller, more affordable" crowd. Maybe, better battery, but thats it.

I wouldn't play undocked and I never meant that it should run exactly like Xbox One / PS4.
But Nintendo has to take into account the people who play undocked (that's alot of people), which means it's not happening because a portable device that lasts for half an hour before running out is a design failure. You not caring for undocked play doesn't mean NIntendo would a make a Switch that lasts half an hour while undocked lol.
Eh, depending on when it releases, I dunno.

Mobile tech is moving fast, I can easily see one exceed a base PS4 by the end of Switch's life cycle.
According to the rumor it releases next year.
Mobile tech is evolving fast, but that stuff costs money. You won't see a base PS4 power level Switch for 300 or less and with a battery that isn't dying in half an hour at the end of Switch lifecycle.

I loved to be surprised by Nintendo and get a "Pro" unit, but I've seen this episode before. It'll be a little sleeker, and better battery life. That's about all.

Yeah I feel it's much to early personally. Yes isn't some sub $200 system. Granted, releasing a new one won't prevent my current one from working, but I can see it definitely putting a sting on some people. Also it's just a rumor, so I'm not putting any real stock into this. The switch hasn't even had a second holiday.

But let's say it does happen.

As far as the form factor, I doubt it's overall shape will change. They have plenty of bezel room for more screen real estate, and also if they get a smaller chip set they can go for a larger battery. However if they do both, we'll have the same battery life as the current switch...

Keeping the form factor the same also opens up the opportunity for people to upgrade at a cheaper price. Selling the next iteration for say $229.99 stand alone and $299.99 with dock. The current switch could be sold for $249.99 with dock and $179.99 without.
Just to clarify, stand alone is console itself, since the dock set comes with the AC adapter.

As far as naming goes, personally I think it should just be called Nintendo Switch. Just add a numerical or year edition to it. Something like:

Nintendo Switch: 2nd edition
Nintendo Switch: 2020 edition

If they want to mimic the Apple route and treat this as a smaller upgrade just call it:
Nintendo Switch DX.

Oh, the user said "Switch 2" so I assumed we were talking about a full on successor.

Next year's a no go for that, sure.

Wonder what SoC they'll put in it. Tegra 2 isn't a big leap that warrants a new system. Maybe they'll do something with the dock, like putting in a supplemental gpu.

Oh and to those who claim a midgen upgrade won't happen because it's not Nintendo's MO

Here, a more powerful revision of a Nintendo device.

Give me a more powerful Switch TV. Anyway, I can wait until 2H 2019, the Switch 1P library is still sorely lacking even almost 2 years after release and maybe by the end of 2019 it'll be good enough for me.

Here, a more powerful revision of a Nintendo device.
One example out of literally every console Nintendo's ever made. The article even says they're considering specs like screen. I have no idea why people are talking about graphical upgrades. I'd love it if that were the case but there's literally nothing to suggest it'll be anything but a slim.

I can't think of anything they could do to convince me to buy the revision. I have no issues with the screen, thickness or battery life of the current model. That said if those are all improvements they'll make I can see them phasing out the original model.

I don't think it'll be much of a graphical or performance boost (if any). I don't think we're getting a huge hardware upgrade. The article doesn't say that at all.

Glad I waited, because all the games released up until release of the next console certainly won't work on it.

Why would a supply chain already have parts to a console that probably won't even start to be assembled until 3 months before release?

Probably just a revision. Would be interesting to see Nintendo jump into the iterative market so soon though

1080p screen perhaps? Handheld only version? TV hookup only version? The possibilities. I would totally have like a TV only version if it were a bit cheaper.

I'll believe it when I see it.

The primary consideration, judging by the article, is that it will be slimmer. I find that hard to believe, considering it would void any Joy-Con currently out there.

It also means new Joy-Con would have to be thinner to match the new console, which means they wouldn't work with Labo.

Don't believe it.

The leaker is a display manufacturer... of course they are talking about screens... What else would they talk about, they make screens.

I think Nintendo will wait to see if Microsoft unleashes its Next Gen intentions during the XO in November.

If Next Gen is coming sooner ( 2019 ) rather than later ( 2020 or 2021 ). Maybe it would make more sense to postponed that revision and come with a mid grb upgrade - 4k capable - a la Pro and X.

Like the poster a few posts above, at most I think this will have a slightly smaller bezel and maybe a better battery or other internal improvements. The switch and all its accessories are designed for the current size, even the dock (it's defining feature).

Ds to dsi
3ds/xl/new3ds

They've Increased the processing power on their last two portable devices and there is already a confirmed new chip coming to the Switch codenamed Yuriko as opposed to the Switch's current X1 SOC. Current Switch firmware already contains calls for it, so it already exists and is being tested.

Not necessarily. There's a bit of room to cut down on the frame thickness without changing the rail thickness. Similarly you can also cut down on the bezel size without greatly changing the size of the device.

If they design it smartly it can both be smaller than the original and still compatible with all of the various accessories.
