For all we know it's just a motherboard revision and white plastic frame? Not going to hold my breath on this being a new spec.

Heh. Now I know why they burned a keyblob in 6.0.0.

Yea the article is up and mentions that Nintendo didn't comment on it. But seems to be ready soon.

Are people acrually expecting a more powerful switch? I think its more like a 'slimmer, better screen' situation

No surprise that a more handheld-focused Switch SKU will launch in time for the first Gen 8 Pokémon game. This gels with Junichi Masuda's comments on how the 2019 game will "have the same kind of feeling as the previous games on handheld systems."

Also seen here from Tsunekazu Ishihara: https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-news/pokemon-creators-share-more-details-on-upcoming-games/
Mr. Ishihara said:
I can't really say much more than what we've already talked about today. But what I can say is that Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! focus on the home console gameplay experience, but the games next year will focus more on handheld features and gameplay experience.

Wonder if it'll be bigger or smaller, portable or both or docked only, etc. The timing on this is terrible though, I traded both my switches in recently (gamestop was giving $300 over one weekend with a coupon) and was thinking about picking up the Smash one over the holidays but now I'll just wait, no game really makes me wanna play asap.

I really doubt Nintendo would do a power upgrade. I would expect them to go for something they can lower the price on assuming this is real.

The article has almost no information. It speculates that it might update the quality of the LCD screen though not so much as to match that of the iPhone X, and that it will share many of the same features of the current Switch. Whether that means there will be new exclusive features or not is entirely in the hands of whoever wrote this. It's almost a zero-content article.

Whatever they need to do to move more units. More Switches, more money for Nintendo, better 3rd party support, more/better games. Everybody wins.

If its 2nd Half 2019 and Pokemon is traditionally also 2nd Half of the year. I feel that this new hardware would day and date with the new pokemon game. It would probably be cheaper hardware with perhaps a smaller form factor.

Otherwise an XL version of the switch can also be possible but I see a smaller console much more possible.

Here's my guess - a 2DS-style Switch with more durable (and child friendly) Joycons - out in time for the next big Pokemon installment. Maybe even one with Joycons that don't disconnect from the system - guaranteeing one less point of failure.

Anybody expecting a 4K Switch is going to walk away dissapointed.

I wouldn't read too much into that if this is true.

Switch is selling well, so I'm surprised this is coming so early unless they're planning a price cut for the current model after the new year. Was expecting 2020 to give them a better chance of staying in the same ballpark as Sony and Microsoft.

Did a quick google translate & it sounds like they're expecting no major new functionality, just slimmer/lighter/better battery life/newer screen. And they claim that a number of Nintendo stakeholders have revealed that the plan is to release the new model next year in order to boost sales.

Boy I sure hope this happens before or at the same time as Animal Crossing, since that's when I'm gonna have to get a second Switch so my wife and I can play at the same time.

I don't really believe in a Pro version yet so either some kind of Lite version or same design with just internal changes.

It is a possibility this could be that Switch device that was talked about in the Foxconn Leak long ago that was supposed to be fairly different from the switch we have now but the details they gave were very accurate for the switch itself

New Switch with Tegra X2

Xenoblade Chronicles X2 will only work on New Switch.

I expect a 1080p display with smaller bezels.
It won't be any more powerful in docked mode, but it will "trick" games to play in their docked profile in handheld mode.

That way, devs won't need to do anything in order to support it.

I knew it, Nintendo portables always get this kind of revision.

I don't expect a power improvement, maybe just a little.

I could honestly see them do this and then a few years after that a switch 2, like a phone model.
