Any comment on the difficulty on hard mode ? I know Yakuza game are not know for been challenging (Except yakuza 3) , still the case here ?

I put it on hard without a second thought and it seems super easy. Except the chapter 2 boss which I think I was just missing something until the game straight up showed me what to do in a cutscene, lol.

So far I'm enjoying it , got to jail and it said I hard to wait .

I then realised it was downloading the rest of the game still.

I can't wait to jump back in.

Difficulty is better than the last few Yakuza games. Enemies are aggressive and dangerous in groups. Bosses are actually dangerous as well. So there's that. Its not exactly Dark Souls, but its harder than the last few Yakuza's no doubt.

I didn't have a ton of time to explore the options and documentation last night, but one of the pages in the notes mentioned using L1+O to target weak points on enemies. It doesn't seem to do anything, or maybe I'm missing an unlocked ability. I know about just hitting people with O but it specifically mentions that button combination.

I did just unlock a counterattack move triggered with L1+O but the wording in the notes implied something different.

Check the exact requirements for the counter moves. Usually they only work against specific enemies or situations. Also, to get them to trigger you have to hold down L1 to block, then wait for the circle prompt to appear on screen. Its basically a heat finisher move. There's loads like that - against midget wolverines, against flame throwers, against larger enemies, normal enemies, dudes with crossbows, spears etc. you gotta buy each separate but in the end you'll basically be able to counter any attack in the game. They are so fun to use :)

Is this game similar to the Yakuza series or is it mostly combat only? Are there mini games and other activities?

Your package was not received at the UPS facility as originally scheduled. There may be a delivery delay.

I'm enjoying this so far except for one major flaw; I have not heard any YOU WA SHOCK! I was really hoping we would get a cut to late title card with this song playing.

I'm doing the sub story hide and seek. Does any one know where to find the kid?
You'll get pretty explicit hints, just make sure you remember to use first person view to find him.

For the third one, he'll be hiding in the alley just north of the bar you can work at.

I only tried Easy Secret Technique Mode (QTE finishers) while playing the demo briefly, haven't tried Auto Channeling Mode at all.
But after reading this I did some (1) quick test.

Colosseum Duel vs Gokucho the Bull (lvl48) with level 67 Kenshiro. Stun wave at the start so he's at full HP -> Stone Mountain Splitting Slash (level 3), then I 'measured' the remaining HP.

1. 2/3 QTE's (missed the first one lol) 9cm remaining (just over 1/3)
2. 0/3 QTE's (missed all on purpose) 13,5cm remaining (just over 1/2)
3. Easy Secret Technique Mode ON 11cm remaining (just under 1/2)
4. 3/3 QTE's (for good measure) 7cm remaining (between 1/4 and 1/3)
HP bar on my TV is about 24-25cm, hard to say because the SEGA logo is covering the right side on the screenshots.

However, from this single sample it seems that, the (max) bonus damage from manually inputting the QTE's may be worth it, probably more so against stronger enemies. If you're going to miss all the QTE's you might as well set it to Auto/ON and save time (because Easy Secret Technique Mode only plays the final animation)
What about channel point finishers set to auto? Does that do less damage too

No mention of the theme, huh? :)

Nice, I wondered how it is, when I downloaded the free themes. Looks nice and the music is calm and good for the background. The wind sounds could get a little bit annoying with time though. Or maybe it's just because I heard it through my smartphone speakers.

Think I will buy today and check it out.

My friend just picked up a copy from GameStop and there's no reverse cover. Was that a pre-order only exclusive? I'm really doubting that there's already a second print out there without the reverse cover.

Should he return the copy?

That's really strange. Did he bought the right Fist of the North Star game? Lol.
All western copies should have the reversible cover, as far as I know.

Edit: Someone on reddit said it was only for pre-orders. Just tried to find something about it on Google. Hmm.

Very glad this game made it to the west in its entirety AND with added UNCENSORED VIOLENCE (compared to the japanese version). My impressions going by the game so far (going by the demo). Ugh the english dub is so weird to me i just can't do it. But glad it's there for people not into subs. Overall excited to fully absorb and do everything in the game now. I beat the main story and did a fair amount of sidequests and minigames in the jap version around when it came out last year. This will be next on my list after I finish kiwami 2. So much yakuza this year and I LOVE IT.

Also watching the anime (even though you technically don't need to in order to play this game) before playing the us version i feel is only going to make my experience that much greater which i do recommend btw. If you like anime like jojo's that's a bit old in terms of quality/animation. I think you'll dig it.

Also I know it's mentioned in the OP but be sure to get that kiryu DLC free while you can, even if you don't plan on getting the game soon
Please do

Man this looks so good. I hope they'll port it to PC eventually since I don't have a PS4 atm. If not, guess I'll get it in a sale sometime and borrow my brother's PS4. It's amazing how well FotNS mixes with Yakuza.

You won't, music licenses are the thorn in the side of most Yakuza games. Interestingly Kiwami 2 and Judge Eyes got their acts together and fixed this, but we aren't getting them for FOTNS.
Ohh i know.... *sigh* i know :( Still. You can't blame me for wanting to hope for the best, can ya. :)

And there's always the hope that it gets a PC release, then we'll have the mod within the first few days. Like we did for Yakuza 0.

You make that ? Not too shabby <3

He has the launch edition. He's going to contact GameStop corporate to see if they can replace it as his store has no other copies.

The bosses are definitely a whole lot more challenging than in Yakuza 0 and the previous games, and I kinda dig that. But it's also annoying how your dash is so lame in the beginning. I need more counters D:<

Yeah, fingers crossed that happens as them modding music back into 0 was fantastic. I'm hoping when Kiwami 2 eventually makes it over we get an original soundtrack option to play the game with 2's soundtrack, not Kiwami 2's. That'd be rad.

Bat is so annoying with his "haha"
He's no better in Japanese. I wake up in a cold sweat sometimes, still hearing "Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen" in the wind.

Would love to, not getting the required Orbs to do so though from leveling up lately.
Orbs can be gotten in the Casino, Arena and from Bat via the shops. Yellow orbs are only given to you once a chapter on completion, and if you want to fully level up you gotta do game + as well as the game doesn't give you nearly enough in one playthrough. Oh, the weird kid by your hideout also gives you a load as per the weekly DLC stuff, but that might not start until next week.

I've played y0 and I felt that normal was a good difficulty. What should I play this game on?
I'll say this game is much harder than 0. I'll recommend going normal and if it gets too extreme don't feel shame in lowering to easy.

I honestly regret playing the import on Hard as it made some fights pretty unfun for me. However for me, 0 on Hard was perfect while Kiwami on Hard was ridiculous. Your milage may vary.

Yeah Yakuza is weird with difficulty. Ishin, Fist, Kiwami, etc are all fairly difficult at times but then you've got the dragon engine games and zero which are stupidly easy. K2 I basically beat Ryuji with two or three heat moves on hard and called it a day lol >.<

Yeah true.
I feel 6 is piss easy on Legend. K2 is a little harder but it was also pretty easy compared to K1. The PS3 Yakuzas have pretty good difficulty balance imo (Kenzan, 3,4,5) but something wild happend with Kiwami 1, feels botherline unfair at times. I wonder why they choose to make it so much tougher than the previous. Lost Paradise is hard but feels much fair atleast tho i still prefier normal.

I wonder how Judge will fare on this aspect.

I think the feeling with K is that it sort of acts more as an epilogue/expansion pack to 0 in a way. You even start the game at effectively max level of 0 in K before getting Samus'd back to nothing again. Therefore they expect you to know the systems and combat mechanics fairly well coming into the game and upped everything to compensate. After playing a huge chunk of 0 on hard with the PC release I can easily say K on normal is harder than hard mode in 0 lol...

I'm gonna say judge is piss easy too. I think after the reaction to K my guess is they don't do a game like that again.

I am enjoying the bar minigames too much right now. It makes me wish there was a FotNS spinoff where the bombs didn't drop and Kenshiro works at a bar while doing his over the top servings.

Not only that, but I loved the sequence of the two ladies who do literally the exact same thing when they drank too much and they both yell, "Put it on Jagre's tab!"

Poor Jagre. But damn it all, this game is winning me over right now. And I've never played a Yakuza style game up to this point until now either.

It's not exactly what you're referring to, but there was a silly comedy spin-off called DD Fist of the North Star, where everyone is more chibi-like & the apocalypse never happened, so Kenshiro, Toki, Raoh, etc. try to fit into society by working as convenient store employees. It's available to watch on Crunchyroll for free.
