Puts the cube in an awkward position as this not only supports Dolby Vision but may in fact be a more powerful device given the Imagine Technologies GPU (still only 8GB onboard but might support USB OTG like the 2nd Gen Stick). Not exactly the same convenience proposition, but this seems to be the real flagship TV device.

This can't control your devices like the Cube can though. That's the real selling point of that.

So Dolby Vision won't be coming to the older versions (pendant)?

Is this going to phase out the Fire pendant? I know most people get the stick nowadays, but I got the pendant for like 75% off a few months back.

Don't want to seem to ignorant here, but if you have a 4K TV that supports Dolby Vision already, most likely those TVs already have an OS that has all these apps that the FireStick is offering, so if that's the case then what's the point of this thing?

Canadians still stuck with leftover stock of the shittiest, oldest, most cheaply made model I presume?

There are a lot of builtin TV smart apps that are slow and buggy. If the fireTV stick is faster than a built in tv app, that is one more reason for people to use Amazon services.

So I buy this dangal and it doesn't come with a remote but I can use my old Amazon remote for my Fire TV to use for this new dongle? Am I getting this correct or am I reading this wrong?

The only reason I'm really haven't gone with Amazon completely it's because they are anti Google and I do use Google Play so I wish they would just wise up and let us use Google Play. That is the only reason why it's not on my Samsung TV right now.

Interesting. I've been thinking about getting a streaming stick. My tv/receiver has hdmi arc handshake issues so I have to use an optical cable for sound (so no dd+/atmos) from the tv apps, and I've always been curious about these things.

The big question is whether Amazon will actually improve their 4K movie selection (or at least allow Vudu on the platform). As long as it's so lacking you're better with an Apple TV or Roku, where you'll get all the same apps, but far better options for 4K/HDR movies. I know Apple TV is pricey (though, I think worth it), but Roku is pretty reasonable.

Sadly, even official Android TV boxes and TVs only have limited access to google play.

The app library on a dedicated stick will always be much better (e.g. PS Vue, Hidive, FilmStruck.) My LG OLED's Youtube app doesn't even support HDR (of course, Fire TVs don't even have a Youtube app :/)

I already have a 4k her fire stick. The one that needed power support. If I don't need this Dolby Atmos stuff there isn't a real reason to get this right?

I use YouTube every day on my older Amazon Fire TV and it's fine. There are multiple browsers you can use and they just launch directly to YouTube, as if it's an app. (Well it's more like they launch to the last thing you were on)

Bought the recent FireTV stick like 1.5 months ago. Smh.

I'll probably sell it and get this. Got Nvidia Shield TV for the living room.

I wonder how this compares to the 2nd gen Fire TV, performance-wise. I'm using PS Vue again and it's not the smoothest experience; I wouldn't want to downgrade. I'm sure AFTV News will write something up soon.

I'm probably still fine just using my chromecast / home setup although I hadn't realized they finally got IR blasters in their remotes, that's big imho and was a big reason I pivoted away from the Fire devices.

They don't do VUDU do they? I've found my amazon stuff typically doesn't have the uhd my vudu does for the same movies anywhere redemptions.

So can someone tell me the difference between the Firestick Dongle, the FireTV Dongle (the square one) and the cube?

I wish apple would create something similar. I'd like to be able to easily bring my library with me.

Looks nice.

On my wish list:

YouTube HDR
Lossless audio passthrough
Refresh rate matching (like ATV4k)

Love my Shield but this has DV and HDR10+.

I liked these for a while (got a TV and a Stick from a year or two ago) but it annoys me that due to Amazon-Google bickering I can't watch Youtube TV on them. So for as long as I'm subscribed to that, I'd rather be on Roku.
