But can you set the number of turns though?

Can you even do something mad and set it to 100 turns. A party to end all parties.

God damn, potentially the highest reviewed Mario Party game ever. I want it really bad, but it's so hard to justify $60.

Its weird considering they already did arguably the hardest part, making the minigames function online.

Seems pretty half assed to leave the board game part out.
I was just thinking that too haha. If I knew Nintendo was only going to have one of the board game or minigames in online mode, I would have assumed it would just be the board game without minigames. Seems like that would be much easier to have work online.

Here's to spending 60 quid on a game I'll probably play with guests 3 times in a lifetime :D

75 is insanely good for a Mario Party game. But I think it's more a matter of reviewers no longer tearing the series to shreds like they have for decades for god-knows-why, lol.

From what I've read so far, this is entry is genuinely middling. But at least we're finally free of that damned car.

I'm not too excited about this iteration of the game. The boards themselves do not look all that good. Back in GC's or even Wii's era, it felt like each board was a different theme park, like 2 pinball tables would be completely different from each other while being essentially the same thing in the end. They each had their own unique thematic/vibe to it. Super Mario Party in comparison feels way more generic on that front. The board are simple with few details, rarely visually pleasing. The parkour looks boring. There's plenty of opened paths where a single small white line shows us the path. I feel like these maps were done mostly with the free-range mode or whatever it is called in the back of their heads.

That's my thought based on what what I've seen from the game so far. Maybe I'm dead wrong. I don't know. It just doesn't interest me as much as the previous games.

Well, can't take that Vooks reviewer seriously due to his terrible taste in pizza.

Yeah, you heard me. Hawaiian pizza is the shit.

A 77 Metacritic is great for the series even if it drops a couple of points. I'm tempted to get this after reading some of the reviews as it sounds like a lot of fun with others.

Youre not wrong. Ive played every entry essentially and Nd Cube cant design boards worth a damn. Minigames sure, everything else hell no.

Hudson went the extra mile so i have to assume theres something going on at Nd Cube that led them astray.

I can't see this doing that well in terms of sales. I just don't see a lot of people putting down so much money for extra joycons.

For any of the past Mario Parties you needed to buy up to 3 more controllers for 4 players. With this you need to buy one set of joycons.

If buying more controllers didn't stop people before I don't see why making fewer purchases will stop them now.

But they literally tell you why.
Fans have been tearing the last two games to shreds, also telling you why.

What is this selective hearing/reading with MP fans?

But this is a better deal on multiple controllers than any of the last few multiplayer centric games on the last few Nintendo consoles. Not to mention you're already starting with two.

You would've needed to buy 3 wiimotes. 3 gamecube controller. 3 n64 controllers.

From what I've been reading, the boards are small, boring, with limited options, and there being only four to boot.

The board game aspect is at least a solid third of what comprises Mario Party. It's great to hear that the game is amazing on the side modes and minigames front, but Nd Cube already had amazing minigames in 9 and 10, so to hear that the board game aspect got better, but not by much, is sort of disappointing.

I'm not really concerned about the size of the boards. Don't you move fewer spaces in this one? I assume that there's a similar number of interesting elements per board, it's all just closer together to compensate for the reduced dice rolls.

party games kinds get low scores by default, it's like a lot of reviewers, no matter how much they enjoyed the game, are like at the end of the day it's a party game so there's a ceiling to the score it deserves

Oh yeah, I should probably post my own review hey - https://www.monamiibo.com/super-mario-party-review-switch/

I had a lot of fun with it over the past few days playing it by myself and with my family, but we're probably done with it for the time being. The minigames are great, but they're spread too thin across the various modes. In some of them you're guaranteed to be repeating minigames if you play them even twice. Playing through all the routes in the river rafting mode got painful because it was selecting from the same, small pool of minigames each time and it got really repetitive.

Getting a more traditional boardgame mode back is good, but I found the boards themselves really dull. Their designs weren't interesting and they were lacking in fun and dangerous gimmicks. The 2v2, Star Rush-esque mode was cool, that could be a lot of fun with a regular group of 4 people.

So yeah, enjoyed it but I think the way its structured means it won't be very replayable. I'll bring it out when I'm with friends, having new people to play it with would freshen it up.

When you're criticizing the BOARDS on a BOARD game, maybe, just maybe the game deserves some criticism.

Forgot review threads are like this.

I would give Super Monkey Ball a ridiculously high score

I see that there is a single-player option as well. I imagine players are just replaced by AI?
Yep, you can play every mode with AI in place of other players and there's a singleplayer-only mode where you have to clear minigames under specific requirements like clearing them in a certain time or getting a certain amount of points

Most likely, that's how it was done before.

Same -- what matters is how the boards play out. There's always a risk that insanely huge game boards would end up being a chore (when you're always 75 spaces away from a star, etc).

I'm so excited for this. 9 and 10 were huge disappointments to me, and I'm glad they removed the pointless car gimmick.

How hard is it to design a fun, gimmicky themed board? Come on. Mario Party 2 excels at this.

i didn't say the game is immune to criticism or that it should get perfect scores or anything like that, just made a general statement. i'm saying even the best, most flawless mario party games wouldn't have gotten 10s and 9s across the board. it's just not a genre that reviewers feel easy giving those scores to. same with sports games.

But you're just saying that based on nothing. Show me the flawless Mario Party game that just got a 7 for no reason. Sports games review great when they're great.

I'm sorry, but how is this different, if not better, than previous MP titles where you had to have 4 controllers?

The switch must be the first console ever I have 5 controllers (2 set of joycons and a pro) for MP games. Well, the pro does not work here :P
