If only Surface headphones were wireless compatible with Xbox One....

No USB C is disappointing, the surface laptop looks really good in black though. I'd like a matte black surface book 3.

I reallly want to upgrade to one of these, but I really am having a hard time finding anything wrong with my 8gb SP3. Yea it could have a better GPU or slightly higher clocked CPU for emulation, but for everyday use this thing is still lightning fast.

Beautiful designs on all fronts, but very expensive to match. And Microsoft should be pushing hard on making all their products work well together.

Surface Laptop without USB-C is seriously inexcusable at this point. I like the all black finish though.
The Surface Studio 2 looks like porn, so beautiful. I wonder if you could play some games at acceptable settings on this thing.

Headphones: I really like the adjustable noise cancellation 'dial', but at this price point I would expect the latest blue-tooth version and a longer battery life (or the ability to turn off Cortana). I don't suppose you're able to switch the battery easily? That's a feature I really appreciate in my Beoplay H7.

Are you certain of this? I don't have an Xbox but if this true, then it's truly mind boggeling to me. I'd be seriously surprised if their newest laptop and their console would both be incompatible.

Xbox doesn't support Bluetooth so...

The music on the surface laptop 2 video has quite a nice melody.
I'm still rockin' my Thinkpad x230 but if i upgrade, this is probably my next machine.

I like the price and features.
Other than the Surface Pro, microsoft laptops don't have LTE cards, do they?

Just placed my pre-order for an i5 8GB Surface Pro 6 with 256GB SSD.

I opted for the black finish, mostly because I'm bored of seeing so many SP3 and SP4 models out and about. Looks like the i5 is fanless again, just like 2017.

I'm typing this on my i5 4GB Surface Pro 4 which has punched above its weight and served me well for 3 years. The lack of new ports on the new machines is disappointing, but I'm currently using the Surface Dock so I greatly appreciate the magnetic connector there.

I don't know why anyone would willingly buy Surface hardware any more given their track record. They've had six years at this now and things don't seem to be getting any better.
Despite making both the hardware and the OS, these devices do not have the tight integration that Apple products do, and you're better off buying other hardware if you want to use Windows.

They really need to get a Thunderbolt-enabled USB-C port on these devices; preferably replacing the DisplayPort connection and not the USB-A port.
They'll add thunderbolt when the new Intel chips that have more PCIE lanes ship, which will be either late next year or early 2020, I imagine.
They support Thunderbolt, but only via the Surface Connector and an expensive adapter.
Not gonna lie, wasn't there to see it, but I can imagine a manufacturer doing that in modern day, it would be suicide.
They killed off all 32-bit app support on iOS and people were arguing in favor of it.
They're about to kill off 32-bit app support in macOS along with OpenGL, while refusing to support Vulkan.
Apple doesn't care about legacy support or compatibility one bit.
Apple is ditching Intel for their own A series ARM CPU in about a year and a half for Macs.
That's far from a guarantee and people are going to be disappointed if they think that Geekbench results, which Apple reviewers keep using for some reason, are representative of real-world performance across multiple operating systems.
Mac users really seem to have no problem with Apple throwing out all legacy compatibility every ~5 years for some reason though, so maybe it will happen. Really shows how many Macs are just being used to browse the web.
Microsoft supports older Macs with Windows 10 better than Apple does with macOS.
How did the BC work out with the G5 to Intel Core transition eh? Exactly.
They did have backwards compatibility, but it was painfully slow and I was basically forced to upgrade from Creative Suite 2 to CS3 (if I recall correctly) which was not a small expense.
My old PowerBook G4 1.67GHz was much faster running it than the newer Intel MacBook Pro via Rosetta. The only good thing I can say is that compatibility was high and it was stable.
They aren't going split the hardware base into two for long. They will make the A series the ONLY Apple CPUs very quickly.
I can see it happening for the MacBook, not the Pros.
A lot of people buying MacBook Pros buy them because it lets them run any OS easily, not only macOS.

Can the new Surface Laptop at least swivel 180 degrees to allow for convenient stylus use? Surface devices have the best stylus input on a screen I've used, my fiance wants a new computer, and the laptop is the cheaper and larger device than the Pro... but it needs to be able to fully fold.

As someone that uses their Surface Pro daily I would hate to see it lose the easy magnetic omnidirectional power cable. I hope they add USB C down the line but maybe instead of DisplayPort, not power. Losing MagSafe was terrible for Apple laptops.

I'll probably wait until next year to pick up a new Surface Pro, since the 2019 version is reportedly going to be a major design overhaul.
'Reporters' said the Surface Pro would get a major design rehaul every year since 2015. The launch of the Surface Go solidifies their commitment to this line IMO.

Nice have the surface 4 I7 8GB and has served me well. I'm still amazed how fast it still is. Never had issues with it. Post pics once you gets it. Love the black!

Eyeing the headphones for sure.

Found a deal on a new surface book 1 - i5, 8gb, 128 gb ssd model for well below half the price of a new surface book 2 i5
Should I go for it? Any experiences with that model?

I concur. My only data point is the 3500€ Surface Book 2 I bought for work. It promptly shit the bed and the discrete GPU stopped working properly during some update. Could be a firmware problem as a Windows reset failed to fix it. I haven't braved MS customer support yet but will soon. The service before, during and after purchasing the system was bad. Clearly here in Finland Microsoft has no idea how to deal with individual professional customers and no idea how to sell hardware. Maybe my machine will end up getting fixed somehow, but I would be extremely happy if the outcome here was getting the money back, TBH.

When I bought my SP4 it was on a whim to see if I might use it for drawing. I eventually sold my main PC and it became my only computer, so it gets used with Unity, Blender, Affinity Designer and others. That 4GB RAM and storage hurts though so it's time to treat myself.

I might use miracast to use the SP4 as an external monitor.

Will the chipset in the Surface latops allow for light gaming? I want one mainly for business, but would also like to play Civilization on flights.

Yeah, I've got an older Surface 3 (the first cheapish Surface they made), and I couldn't be happier with the design. Very sturdy, full sized USB is great, and I even bought the dock for it to connect it to my TV (could have just gotten the cable, but the dock was like 90% off and includes an Ethernet cable and extra USBs).

My only problem is that the space bar on the keyboard cover I got for it (bought it used since they're out of production on my model) is a little wonky, have to press it in the right spot for it to register.

Yea I've used a lot of my friends Surface products. They seem really well made, the only (semi-major) problem seems to be the battery. It needs to last longer. Hopefully with this iteration Microsoft manages to get it done.

Do I wait til Surface Book 3 are announced? When can we expect those?

If it's the same gap between SB1 and SB2, we will see SB3 next Oct/Nov.

I could see them doing a spec bump next fall though and then something more significant in 2020. The chips that Intel just released are essentially the same chips in the SB2 but with added PCI express lanes so we could see TB added with the next update.

Dang the black SL2 and SP6 are really great looking. Really wish my SB2 was black.

As far as "Why would ANYONE buy a Surface?!?!111"

I've had a SP4 and SB2 now. Both had some software issues during the first 6 months which were eventually ironed out. It was nothing show stopping for me though with either device.
