Every good superhero needs that one foe. The yin to their yang. X-Men have Magneto, Fantastic Four have Doctor Doom, Batman has Joker, Superman has Lex Luthor. However, in the case of Peter Parker, our Amazing Spider-Man, it seems like there is not really a consensus! Spider-Man is probably rivalled only by Batman in terms of iconic enemies: Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Venom, Carnage, Dr. Octopus, Shocker, Kingpin, Electro, Mysterio, Vulture, Scorpion, Rhino, Sandman and more! However, amongst them there seem to be three who are generally considered to be at the top:
- Norman Osborn (Green Goblin) - The businessman with extreme intelligence and strength, but at the cost of his sanity! He has been a central figure of many Spider-Man stories, including some of the most tragic ones.
- Doctor Otto Octavius (Doctor Octopus) - Well, the name kind of gives a hint of what he is! A doctor of extreme intelligence, but one with 8 limbs! He is considered to be a foil to Spider-Man, a scientific genius who is capable of just as much as Peter Parker himself, yet he is also one who decided to take a different path in life (well, if you read his debut comic perhaps it's not so much of a decision rather than an accident that hinders his capability for morality!)
- Eddie Brock (Venom) - The embodiment of hatred for Spider-Man, both the symbiote itself and Brock have a disdain for the wallcrawler as a result of his actions in the past. Having been a prior host, Peter himself inadvertently creates a foe that can do whatever he can do! He is immune to Parker's spider senses!
