Exactly. Fuck crossgen

I'm not saying I like or even want crossgen games, I'm just saying it will obviously happen for the first few years of next gen

They will just strip some things from the last gen versions if needs be

Remember that the PS3/360 versions of Shadow of Mordor didn't have the nemesis system

People complaining this doesnt look perfect when none of this was ever meant to be seen by the public. For early footage it's actually excellent

Some of you would have meltdowns if you saw what early footage of what some of the most impressive games released looks like even a year before launch

And a lot of people wondered why CDPR were so hesitant in showing the public the E3 demo of Cyberpunk 2020.

You're telling me full games aren't made via level editors????

If they can feasibly run it on older platforms, they will. It isn't even up for debate.

WB did this with Shadow of Mordor last time around, another popular fantasy IP. Harry Potter is even bigger.

Why this weird choice?

Anyway. What engine is this? Is this UE4? It didn't look that for me. maybe cus it was off-screen footage.

Edit: Oh probably not Rocksteady? Yeah! I think Rocksteady should stick to making awesome super-hero games, moslty some mature ones.

Yeah. I made an edit. I didn't know that it may be Another studio. Rocksteady would surely stick to UE anyway.

Actually didn't expect that one part with the goblin impalement death. These kid wizards don't mess around.

Yeah I was using it as an example

Making it next gen only doesn't make sense unless you're using it to try and get people to buy next gen systems at launch

As this isn't a first party game they just want to get as many sales as possible, so why would they make it PS5 only and sell the game to fewer people?

That was my point, the game looks great but it looks like it will run on a current gen system. The publisher isn't going to throw away the sales they would get on PS4/XB1 for no reason
The way I see it, WB should want consumers to buy next gen consoles. If Ps5 and Xbox Two are the consoles that WB plans to release content on going forward, then they should make their best effort to make those userbases grow as quickly as possible, that means starting at launch

I don't see what being first party has to do with this, I don't think I or anyone ever said this will or should be a Ps5 exclusive; it should release on Ps5, Xbox2, and PC together.

I didn't play Shadow of Mordor so I don't know what you're talking about. Even if it was just some system cut out from the last gen versions of the game, they were still essentially the same game just with worse graphics

I actually really hope that's not in the game or barely at all. A green flash of light over and over again just doesn't sound fun when there's so many more interesting spells out there.

I actually hope it makes it into the game but with like a SEVERE side effect where it drains your character of power for an extended period of time to be able to use it.

The main thing I want is there to be some level of player choice. Like I want there to be some really cool tricks and combos to be able to mix and match abilities and/or tools at your disposal to solve scenarios in different manners.

Like take this for example:

You need to get a specific banned root to create a powerful potion that does some crazy shit like bring back someone from the dead momentarily and the easiest way to get it is from the potions cabinet, but the door is locked and only the Potions Professor has the key.

> Option 1: Steal Key from Professor
  • Take hair from Professor, knock Professor out and create Polyjuice Potion
  • Turn into Professor, use key to steal root
  • Deal with consequence of Professor digging into root disappearance and being knocked out
> Option 2: Wait until Professor uses cabinet
  • Follow the Professor's schedule and watch when he goes to open the cabinet
  • Use the Invisibility Cloak to sneak into the cabinet with the Professor and steal root
  • Deal with consequences if you take too long getting root and get locked in cabinet/professor catches you in cabinet
> Option 3: Turn into an animal to sneak in
  • If you manage become good at Transfiguration and learn how to become an Animagus, turn into a mouse to sneak into the cabinet and sneak out the herb
  • Deal with the consequence of getting caught
> Option 4: Use deep Herbology research to create the root
  • If you decide to go the Alchmeist route and dig deep into herbology, you can create this root using magic and resource stacking
  • Because the root is banned, the Herbology Professor may catch on to what you're trying to accomplish and you will have to deal with those consequences, so you have to be smart about how you acquire certain items to create the root.
> Option 5: Find the root outside of Hogwarts and find a way to sneak it back in.
  • Do enough research in either Herbology or Geography and you can figure out where the root grows naturally instead of having to steal/make it.
  • You have to find a way to sneak the contraband into your dorm using something like a Vanishing Cabinet or finding secret passages via Marauder's Map.
I'm pumped, and I wanna see a CRPG like approach to this (even though this is highly unlikely)

If that's the standard of visuals Sony and MS will be trying to sell people on to buy new consoles I don't think many people at least on here will be impressed at all. It looks like a current gen game outside some of the destruction which could arguably be done with the kind of small scale areas they're working with where you see it. I know, I know this is a terrible quality video to judge visuals on :P

Is this the Avalanche that makes Just Cause and Mad Max or the movie tie in studio?
The studio that did Disney Infinity. WB bought them when Disney announced it was stopping publishing games.

Avalanche was hiring for people with UE4 experience, so presumably that's the engine this project is using.

pretty sure the devs are reading this thread right now. Hahaha hello! Good luck on this project and hopefully you'll do right by the IP.

Only 5 years too late.
Going to disagree. A big budget Harry Potter game that explore more of the world and teaches you more magic than we saw in the films with no constraints being tied to them would have some big appeal. There's plenty of untapped potential with this franchise when it comes to gaming that we've yet to see.

I wonder if Rowling is involved in the project. Has any original HP material been published without at least securing her approval?

Apparently it's called Harry Potter: Magic Awakened

If it doesn't really feature Harry, just drop the HP name.

Everyone would spread the word on the game anyway, much like what happened with Fantastic Beasts.

Seems like it's about magic being born or something, since it's RPG and you create your own wizard.

I say change it to - "The Chosen Wand"
meheheh

In a perfect world but the Harry Potter branding is too strong.

Nothing in Avalanche's repertoire inspires absolute confidence. Oh well, another licensed movie game another potential trash (or perhaps treasure). I am not holding my breath.

You know that not everyone can afford a new console at launch, right ? It's also for that reason that plenty of third parties will do cross gen games for the first year (at least) of the PS5 and Xbox 2. The way you're acting like the game can't be good if it doesn't run on next gen only is off putting.

The game will be held back if it's crossgen, and I don't care if i come off as off putting with that opinion because it's simply how I feel

Despite my affection for Gryffindor House, if this features ample build and personality options, making a scumbag Slytherin character who hurls Cruciatas Curses and Avada Kedavras at enemies like it's nothing might be too tempting to pass up.

All I want is some good atmospheric downtime where you can explore freely and enjoy some nice ambient Harry Potter-esque music. Especially such as exploring Hogwarts at night. Watching the paintings move, seeing the occasional ghost, exploring into the dark corners of the castle... That's all I want.
