Don't worry, you'd have Superhot, Firewall: Zero Hour, Moss, Resident Evil VII, Rec Room, REZ Infinite, Farpoint, Statik, Ultrawings, Thumper, Polybius, Skyrim VR, Raw Data, Sprint Vector, Wipeout VR, Job Simulator and (coming soon) Beat Saber to keep Astro Bot company and that's only about half of the best stuff available.

In other words, do it.

This. I just got psvr a few days ago and there's already a dozen games I'm super excited to play. So far I've bought Moss, Super Hot, and Wipeout and whenever I play any of them I have the biggest fucking grin on my face. It's reignited my interest in gaming. I'll be getting Astrobot tomorrow. Can't wait!

watched the Push Square review. my god, that looks amazing. i almost regret returning my PSVR at launch. It looks like what I wanted Odyssey to be. i dont care for platformers and believe they are in dire need of innovation and i truly believe this is it.

if this was a nintendo game, it would be at 105 metacritic lol.

Yeah amazing games, especially Wipeout in VR is a dream :)

Looks great, reviews sound good - I just realized it's a Sony title and I don't have a PS4... As I said, looks great though, VR needs titles like this!

Can we please not do this again? And if we must, lets do it in the thread dedicated to said tweets.

If we aren't supposed to mention mariogate in this thread then maybe there shouldn't be 20 quotes about mario in the OP, and maybe this question shouldn't be in the OP "The Question: Is it VR's Mario 64 Moment?"

Just asked the wife to order this from amazon for me, I needed to get back into vr games as I have been neglectful for a while now but since I loved robot rescue I couldn't say no.

I'm a separate note, why do I never see anyone recommend Tethered when talking about Psvr games? One of the best games I have played on it yet I never see people mention it.

Time to dust off my setup.

Smart of Sony to start establishing credible franchises they can grow as VR matures.

The super Mario 64 comments were hyperbolic, but the standard shouldn't be that it changes everyone's lives. Some people just wouldn't be happy with the comparison unless it scored like a 99 and sold 10 million copies.

Astrobot is apparently a fantastic platformer that handles a new medium fantastically.
It looks fantastic and I now want a PSVR.

Quite a few really cool first person games require them, and they're my preferred way to play skyrim. A lot of the best games such as Wipeout, Resi. 7, Rez and Polybius are still designed for the controller. You can have a great time on the PSVR without the moves.

Superhot alone makes them worth it, though.

As someone else mentioned, Superhot VR is a revelation. IMO Moves are also the way to play Skyrim because they make magic fun. I'd try and find a cheap pair.

Thanks for the info! I've already played through Superhot, and won't be touching Skyrim in VR, so I'll probably hold off for now. Sounds like most of the stuff I'd want to play use controller, good to know there are some quality games that use them though.

I really really like Tethered and it's a great VR god-sim that I recommend. But unlike many strategy games (though arguably a facet of god-sims like Black and White) it can be really stressful as it is almost impossible to keep all your worshippers happy hehe. :)

Tethered has a *fantastic* soundtrack btw from the LittleBigPlanet composer.

Buy Tethered.

If you like Sci Fi horror you must buy The Persistence.

Is DS4 only.

Okay, fine. Then, yes. Yes it is VR's Mario 64 moment.

And you can't prove otherwise.

*mic drop*

Honestly, Superhot in VR is a whole other thing. Even if you don't make it your priority you owe it to yourself to check it out eventually.

Watched the trailer, and it really does remind me of the SM64 feeling of 3d platforming. It looks very charming, the bots are funny.

This will definitely be on my sight during Black Friday. A good PSVR pack at the right price and I'll be ready to jump in.

Besides, it seems to be the best Sony Japan has done in ages.

I mean, that tweet is the only reason this thread has more than 2 pages. A week before launch no one even knew this game was coming out. Now it's spawning 25 page threads. Like it or not and for better or worse, this game's identity will forever be tied to Mario 64 because of it.

Lol that's true, I do remember having to be super focused and be quick to make sure everyone was doing what I needed and protected from the monsters.

I do love it though, I remember when I first played it I was just obsessed with leaning in to look at the little guys going about, doing their jobs.

Only other game that could top it is Thumper, one of the most Thrilling game experiences I have had.

Oh and RE7, one of the most memorable games I have played thanks to the immersion it brings.

OK, I'm officially back into vr mode now lol. I just needed that extra motivation to be bothered hooking it up etc. Not much of a hassle but since I got a 4k TV a few months ago it means a few extra steps I usually can't be bothered to do when I get in.

This is the new side of Japan Studio. High quality after so many duds in recent years.

Count me in! (After DQXI and RDR2)

Damn I hate when great games all get thrown in the blender like this, but I promise this is one I will not miss it looks amazing. I may even play it alongside RDR because the games are so different I could play one or the other based on mood.

Did these guys make The Puppeteer as well? I love that game. That should get a VR treatment or a remaster.

They never had a real problem with quality. Their problem (like so many Sony studios since the brand's inception) is commercial performance.

Hopefully this can break that mold and prove to be a genuine success. Media will have to carry the weight in helping that happen, because the masses aren't currently looking to VR for broadly appealing gaming experiences.

No lies, this might get me to bite the bullet. These are the two games I would pick up right away.

Are there really any must-have games that require the move controllers?
There are games that are way better with move or AIM Controller. Like shooters. Especially shooters.
But you can have a lot of fun with Dualshock-Games, too. I actually often prefer Dualshot over Move. For example, I play Skyrim with Dualshock all the time and I even played Doom VFR with it. If you are interested in the bundle also consider Skyrim, Thumper, Wipeout and Doom VFR and you have something to play for now. You can always get move/aim later.

@Topic: Great to see these reviews. VR needs some killer apps and after Firewall this seems another must have for VR. I am not a big fan of platformers but I will try this out eventually.

Damn, high praise.

I just bought Firewall and it's kinda glitchy for me. So I don't think I'll be jumping in on this yet.

True. Helps that one of the big reasons I've held of on PSVR this long is because I'm trying to limit the amount of plastic crap in my apartment. So I don't really want to get Move/Aim controllers unless there are a decent few must have games that are genuinely better with them.

Fuck.

It's such a pain in the ass setting up the PSVR. Time to get it out of the box again and enjoy the Hung-Over Simulator device.

Sure, but my other post was pointing out that it's ridiculous to say the mere mention of "mario" in reviews is enough for "crow to be served".

It's definitely understandable to read the Mario mentions in the actual reviews because that's literally one of the first things that pops in your mind the second you play this in VR.

One of the game designers in the team worked on Puppeteer and Gravity Rush 2 before joining Asobi! team.

So I would say no on that question. Gavin Moore has not been in sight since GDC 2014 and nobody knows where he is other than Sony.

Firewall has 37 critics at meta, Astro Bot will also get more.

Yes, with VR games it always takes a little longer until the reviews arrive.

If I remember correctly, Firewall had no metascore at all for the first few days, because only 3 reviews were available. In this regard, Astro Bot is doing better from the get-go in terms of attention and number of reviews.
