Persona 5 the Animation - 26 END?

Oh god they really did end it there. That's beautiful.

Looking forward to the thrilling conclusion at the end of the year…however that's going to work.

This episode succeeded in making me want a second season of the anime, even without relying on a cheap cliffhanger. There was a lot of great animation in this episode - I love the flexible yet solid style set by Tetsuya Takeuchi, with its emphasis on realism and clothing folds that are somehow both exaggerated and nuanced at the same time. I wish the photography team didn't feel the need to throw in so much motion blur during the action, but it was still entertaining to watch. Too bad the show didn't have more action in it, but maybe it wouldn't have had the resources to keep delivering that on a consistent basis. Pretty solid comedy all around.

All things considered, I feel like they took the loss of a whole third of their fellow blood cells pretty well. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't get over it so quickly if a third of the human population was killed off and replaced by random humans from some other dimension.

Good show was good to the end. Keep up the fine work, you diligent cells. For all our sakes.

Hisone to Maso-tan whole series

This was a decent series. mostly light and fluffy with a few serious moments. I wonder if I still would have enjoyed this if I had watched it week by week, but as a binge watch i did enjoy it.

The show finally got good.

Overall, this is a very mediocre show. After all, disregarding episode 8, it took 17 episodes for the show to get good. A lot of it is because the VN itself isn't very good, but some of it is the direction of the show, which decided to linger on the really boring stuff from the VN, and had terrible action scenes. What the show did correctly is the scenario writing. They managed to make the two branches of the visual novel into a single coherent timeline, got rid of some of the really stupid stuff from the VN, and added so many new stuff that filled in a lot of gaps. Heck, I would say the anime original stuff were some of the best points of this show. Overall, I did enjoy my time with this show, despite the mediocrity, because I like these casts of characters and the voice acting is really strong.

As a standalone cap to this second cour before the Blackbeard Army arc starts next month, this was a pretty good episode all things said. It helps to have what seemed like twice the production value of last week's episode, as both the extended action sequences and the various horror scenes had some pretty outstanding direction and animation this week. And who knew that we'd get another story this season about an unhealthy mother-daughter relationship! It doesn't hold a candle to Ayano's horrific childhood, but for a single episode this one does reflect pretty well on such an messed up family dynamic, with plenty of signature Japanese horror direction backing those moments up. Since it has to wrap everything up during its run-time, some might feel the resolution is a bit trite, but its handled well enough and with the production value to sell it well enough. A good end to this cour, and I'll say the tease for next week looks absolutely nothing like anything else in the series thus far, so I'm really interested to see how they plan to shake the show's dynamic up just in time for the spookiest month of the year!

I think as long as there's a song to advertise, OPs/EDs will remain. Insert song speculation is interesting though.

Came upon this article, and I don't know how to feel with the possible future of anime with no opening and ending songs. It is one of the reasons I got into many of my favorite shows, and why I got into J-pop.

B-b-but I factor the OP into my first impressions of the episode by guessing the direction a series will take.

And I like it when they change the OP during a series run like School Live and Jojo.

Fuck Netflix.

So does Anime that's on Amazon stay on Amazon? Or does it move to other services over time? Because I'm not sure if Banana Fish is on Canadian Amazon.

Ehhh, really not a fan of the antagonists. Typical one dimensional douchebag foreigners with zero character development. I remember really liking the series when I watched it last year but this was barely entertaining.

I'm thinking xenophobia from the authors tbh. The series had a tall black Senegalese dude that was portrayed as being kinda simple-minded and looking down on Japanese people and solely relying on his physical aptitudes to win. But that was just a one-off so didn't think much about it. Seeing that a second time (but worse) in the same series is making me side-eye the author.

this was a good final episode, I wish more of the series was like it. The fourth wall stuff was a bit much.
At the end I can't help but feel a bit confused about exactly what it was trying to say about theater and takarazuka.

not since the 2006 adaptation of Fate/stay night has a CGI dragon looked this good, dear lord. I really wish this didn't have just the Worst Sound Design ruining every action scene and my investment in it.

Think it'll mostly effect the Netflix series of animes since the model has you watching all the episodes at once so having smoother transitions will help. We could have more simplified op and ed something on the line of Devilman crybaby.

His latest series had an offensive depiction of a black character in a color plage as well.

I dont know how one would really have well developed antagonist team in a sports anime movie though. I guess they could have reused characters from the TV show as the opposing antagonists.

I'd like to see a Japanese series involving Japan and other countries, where at least some element of Japan isn't represented as being super, duper special (smart, stronk, unique) and where they don't portray themselves as victims at the hands of mean foreigners (WWII persecution complex comes to mind. I almost lost it when Antarctica show included a scene where 'mean foreigners bullied Japan into getting the less cool Antarctica land share after WWII'. But we, awesome Japan, wouldn't let that stop us!).

Looks like she has an inkling about her sister's secret identity now, so I guess that's progress. Still hoping she actually finds out the truth for reals by the end of the show. And becomes a Precure herself

Layton Mystery Tanteisha 25

Last week a mystery based around Big Ben, this week one based around the Thames? They sure are leaning into the London landmark theme!

After last week's ridiculously convoluted scheme, though, this was one of the more obvious mysteries the show has had. I'm sure anyone could've seen that conclusion coming a mile off.

I can't believe MeruMeru is such a world-class genius that she's got a cabal of scientists conspiring to stop her wasting her time on PriChan activities XD

And I can't believe their method of achieving this is to sabotage her performance by bribing other PriChan idols with candy XD

Bonus points for said world-class genius getting caught in this most sophisticated of traps.

Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san 12 END

A sweet little ghost-related story, tying back into Yuuna's situation. Nice note to end the season on.

For all that this show is the epitome of fanservice-laden fluff, it's a lot of fun each week, and I find myself half hoping that it winds up getting more seasons as Jump adaptations often do. Not that it'll be any great loss if it doesn't, but I'd certainly be down for spending a little more time with this cast.

Boku no Hero Academia S3 - 25 END

OK, that was actually a pretty solid place to end the season, with a little teaser of things to come that still feels conclusive in its own right.

This Mirio guy is a fantastic character and I love him already. Pity he stole the show so hard that we didn't really get to learn much about the other two Big Three members, but I guess that's something to look forward to in Season 4 when it arrives.

One thing that Mirio's power made me consider is that Hagakure's ability is actually more impressive than it seems at a glance. If Mirio's ability blinds him whenever it's active, you'd think Hagakure's power would do the same thing all the time, since they both make light pass right through them. But Hagakure seems to be able to see just fine, so her power must have the ability to compensate for that. Bet Mirio wishes his power had that feature.

(On the other hand, you'd think Mirio would be able to turn invisible himself if he can make light pass right through him, but he seems to be perfectly visible even when he goes completely intangible. I guess his power must be compensating too, in its own much less convenient way >.>)

Hanebado end

Yep i love watching people breath for 3 minutes rather than watch the actual game. What a final.
Major dud in a lot of ways. It was funny at first watching the show mire in its own ridiculous melodrama and self-seriousness but then it just got sad and boring after a while.
The match itself had no weight cause both characters are so unlikable and there aren't any real stakes causes they both qualified for the next round anyway, even the tacked on crap with the mom and the fake-out injury scare rang hollow.

Hanebado 13

Ayano at the end is extremely adorable, and is what manga readers were expecting when they started watching this adaptation, before getting punched in the gut by the director. The match was also fairly exciting, even though all the good animation was directed at Nagisa for the entire thing and Ayano got very little actual focus, even though she's the main character. Uchika in a way did actually get BTFO, because it seems like Ayano probably wont ever live with her or be a proper family with her ever again, even though she's forgiven her. I still think it was a mistake to have literally no one actually tell her she's a bad person. Only she thought so, and that was followed up by "lol I don't really care though, yolo".

It was a mess of an adaptation. If they'd cut all the worthless crap surrounding the background characters and given that screen time to Ayano instead to develop her mindset (maybe I don't know, give us little more of her internal thought process) then it might have salvaged it for me. At the very least, they should have had Ebina (the dumb girl who liked that one guy, but not really) spend more time with Ayano intimately to show that they actually did form some kind of bond that would make Ayano's bad mindset clear up a bit. Instead we got a hackjob of scenes from the manga, stuffed in between nonsensical character drama.

I now know to stay away from this director, who is known for such hits as Gunslinger Stratos.

Hanebado 13 END

Not satisfied with the outcome of the match. It's extremely iffy IMO that the person who has a problem with their knee wins against another when the physical condition of the other is good and is also much more talented.

Did they really make Ayano forgive Uchika? I don't care that she doesn't want to live with her, but come on, the woman literally abandoned you for no good reason and still believes her ways were right. Forgiving doesn't always make you the better person, it can also make you stupid.

5/10. Was entertaining.

I think I'll just dump my Hanebado in here cleanse myself, then wash myself in fall anime.

Hanebado end

So yeah to the end Hanebado was a tonal mess there was consistent despair and srs business in the last couple of episodes but the ending did not deserve to step into the light the way it did, the main sticking points weren't addressed properly at all, like... Uchika never showed remorse or sadness or... anything really even though her dialogue should have conveyed something other than "that's how it is..."

This show made me realise I'd enjoy a dark sports anime, maybe I should watch that baseball show with the high stake homeruns.

It has a very interesting concept and the musical/battle numbers are really freaking good. I just think it's weak in terms of the motivations. I mean putting the personal conflicts in the form of a theater/battle thing is cool and all but I think the reward for the auditions is too abstract for me to understand why it's even necessary to participate in this to be the best show girl.

Hanebado 13 - They we're trying to sell an ending and I wasn't buying it.
I don't buy it that Ayano is even a somewhat decent person or anyone who had big personality or character shift suddenly mid match because people thta she's treated poorly cheered for her for a bit.

Nagisa on the other hand had a good arc.

It was a shame this show had such a story boarding mess and wasn't sure what to focus on ever or what tone to have.

I really liked so much about it. I think the most telling sign is the opening and ending songs which feature a very different tone than the episodes.
Even the cover photo on Crunchyroll could be deceptive.

It seems like this is the end. It said "the end".
Part of me wants it to come back as a much better simpler show in season 2, and part of me wants to just move on with my life and forget this ever got my hopes up.

It's like a middle school romance gone sour.

Fall thread, here we come.

Catching up on Lupin and Planet With now. I loved Lupin as a kid, and thought the first 5 episodes of part 5 were good, but I'm trying to branch out and try new stuff, so it got put on the back burner all season as I tried and was disappointed by Hanebado!, Chio's School Road, and Asobi Asobase.

My fiancé and I have continued our backlog of romcoms, but have been continuing the double seasons of Major 2nd (which seems to be underrated) and Persona 5 (which we like a lot simply because we like the game).

I can never tell (and I'm not sure how all of y'all know) when a show is actually over for a season or for good.
Persona 5 did most of the game now, but I'm constantly surprised that it keeps going! It seems like such hard work to do a double length season.
Same with Major 2nd.
If both are over for now, they've ended on a good parts.
I hope that neither are over for good, though.

I still want to see High Score Girl whenever it becomes watchable here.
