It has since been deleted but LOL.

I just have to see this legendary turd.

Probably going Friday out of pure morbid curiosity.

I've never met a single person who has seen The Spirit. I'm not convinced it actually exists.

The Spirit is one of only two movies I ever walked out on.

The other is 2005's A Sound of Thunder.

He's a fantastic actor

Doesn't have the best judgement when it comes to picking projects though

Hardy's probably really happy he's one of Nolan's regulars

So he's a beefier Michael Fassbender then?

Sky Captain is one of those films where you find the DVD, realise you can't remember anything about it, watch it and quickly forget everything again.

I've seen bad movies but this is the first in a long time that I'm baffled by every aspect of. Why?
Frank Miller was convinced that he was a secret cinematic genius on the back of Sin City, when the truth of the matter was that Robert Rodriguez was too much of a devotee to the source material that he quit the DGA just to show his appreciation. It did not end well.

So what are the chances that Sony goes:

"Fuck it, we can't do anything with the SM license, lets sell it back to Marvel".

Or is this movie is going to be the first turd of many (offshoots).
I don't see that happening. Maybe they will let Marvel have full control on any possible spin offs. They still regret the massively dumb decision to sell off the merchandising rights to Spider-Man so I imagine they will hold on to the film rights for dear life.

Yeah Locke is an absolutely masterclass tour-de-force by Tom Hardy. It's essentially just him delivering a monologue while blowing his nose and it's riveting.

Also stars Tom Holland funny enough. The Spidey crossover we'll never get.

For real, Locke is so good for a movie that can be summarized as "a guy drives and occasionally gets phone calls."

Yeah Locke is the movie I point to when people ask for Hardy's best performance. In a lesser actor's hands, that movie would not work, imo.

Was Tom Hardy ever a great actor? I'm asking honestly here, I've never seen him be anything more than decent in anything. It's always seemed like he's adjacent to good actors and leeches off them.
He's experimental. It's the one aspect of him that is unique. He seems like he wants a franchise though. I was surprised to find out he was in Star Trek: Nemesis.

Hardy was excellent in Warrior and The Drop. Problem is Hardy is an actor who needs a strong director to really bring him in and shape his performances otherwise he has a tendency to go 'off reservation'.

Rubqqen Fleischer is an absolute flake of a director (he completely lost control of Gangster Squad with chatter than Sean Penn grew so sick of his fecklessness he ended up directed scenes himself) who was never up to the task to reigning in Hardy (stories of his behaviour on Taboo are near legend) who just ran amok.

Apparently Sony even went as far to send a production executive to the Atlanta set of Venom for the shoot to try and keep Hardy in check. No such luck. I have a feeling that the "turd in the wind" line is pure Hardy and wasn't anywhere near the shooting draft.

Hardy may have dropped out of Suicide Squad but, like the plot of Final Destination, you can run but you cannot hide from an awful CBM and now he has one all of his own.
What kind of stories about Tom Hardy were there in Taboo?

"We are largely part of the reason that Marvel was not liquidated and Disney saw value in superhero films. Let's sell it back when we are on the hunt for more IP"

In fairness, Sony's Board rejected the Company buying Apple during Idei's reign so you could be onto something.

You got me. But the DCEU is trying to feel like a real world. Adding an art deco filter would confuse people.

People riding sharks def feels like the real world to me, but I get what you mean.

Imagine a stylized 40s-50s era setting with crazy architecture and whatnot. They could even go back to golden age power sets, like a Superman who can only jump very high and has a tough time stopping a speeding train.

Real world to me is just a modern setting. I don't mean be super serious. Going all the way back to Justice Society era DC would be tough. Those are not versions of DC characters people are commonly exposed to.

Is it bad if these Venom reports make me more excited to watch it?

A mediocre 5/10 will be way less entertaining than a flaming dumpster fire 3/10.

48 hours til my screening starts!
