Interesting to see that there are three concurrent story paths. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but I did not like that structure in Origins or Far Cry 5. It ends up feeling fragmented and weaker in its narrative. The "here are some main story quests to complete in any order" has never worked or appealed to me.

I haven't played an AC game since AC2, so I'm pretty excited to jump back into the series. I'm just worried about getting collectathon fatigue after spider-man and tomb raider.

They are no more "collectables" in AC games. Closest thing in Origins were Papyrus riddles that you solve to get loot.

Apparently PC version has some issues on higher resolutions than 1080p.

why are you linking benchmarks when the people doing the benchmarks dont actually do it properly, case in point the second video the guy is running OBS in background which will tank performance and even states so in the comment section,.

This might be a very specific detail, but does the clothing react to the wind like origins did? That was one of the very nice small details that origins had.

Those aren't good benchmarks. The first video the guy had adaptive quality set at 45fps and adaptive AA which sounds like it produces uneven performance. Read the first comment of the video and his response. The second video he said OBS was tanking the framerates and without it the performance was higher than shown. He even said at 8:34 "Besides my PC having problems obviously you're going to get 60fps ultra setting at 4K". Unless I'm missing something those video doesn't represent what the performance will be like for the rest of us.

Still cant decide on which character to play.

Kassandra by a greek mile.

Also, guys. Please *DO NOT* hover the cursor above the photos other users post and you see their icons on the map.

There are tons of pictures of major spoiler locations, events etc in those and there is absolutely no filter.

Please turn those photos off or keep them on for yours and your friends photos only.

They're not different paths really, they're three seperate stories. The "main" one centering on Alexios/Kassandra and then one centering on 1st Civ stuff and one on Greek mythology, at least that's what I've heard.

Yes, just so it's clear, there is no branch in story telling. There are different set of story events running together. They can intersect every now and then but they are separate sets of quests. You're not locked out of any content or anything like that.

Question for anyone who's had the opportunity to play for a while - how long do you have to play before you're able to get to either Athens or Olympia, if the latter's in the game?

I'm teaching the Parthenon to one of my classes this week, and I'd like to see if I can be Down With The Kids (tm) and use Odyssey's recreation of the Acropolis at the very least to illustrate the power of the Parthenon in terms of its position, grandeur and decoration (I've seen in Youtube videos that the frieze has been at least somewhat recreated). However, I will have very limited time to do this; I've pre-ordered the early unlock edition of the game, but work means I will have about an 90 minute window on Tuesday night to actually play any of the game between commitments. I suspect it's going to be unachievable, but thought it would be worth asking anyway.

Here's hoping I get further with this than Origins (which I like, but... AssCreed games feel so bloated yet repetitive nowadays; I miss the platforming challenges, and flying machines, and the ridiculous tower defence game, and...)

Ideally you should wait for Discovery Mode to launch before you do that
And yeah, I miss the puzzles and tombs too, the old games had a conspiracy vibe going

Thanks for impressions and overall tips. Yeah those random photos can be really annoying, no filter for this is an oversight imo.

Are you sure there's no filter of any kind? In Origins, you can press up on the d-pad while viewing the map and cycle between all icons, my photos, no photos, etc.

Thanks for the warning, chandoog. It wasn't too bad in Origins since a bunch of it was desert and mirages, but I can see how it could be worse here.

Since I saw you could choose between Alexios and Kassandra I knew I was gonna pick her. I tried Origins and for some reason it didn't click for me, I think it was the flashing forward and back of the story early in the game. I'm super interested in Odyssey though.

That's interesting to learn considering how big the games seem to have gotten.
After syndicate and going directly into origins i was glad when I opened the map and the 40 chests and 20 other collectables per area thing was gone. Now its camps, hunting areas, searching areas (on terrain and below water), fights on some ship in the middle of the river/sea, tombs (that are like mini dungeons) and papyrus puzzles (and other high level secret stuff like the elephant fights, similar to the warships battles in Black flag) and each of this mini zones has maybe 1 up to 3 chests to discover (easily found with your eagle). The good thing is that, apart from the biggest cities, and depending of how populated is that area, there like like 3 areas to find (like some of the deserts) up to 20 arprox (in the more populated ones), so less than the collectibles from older AC games and more fun to boot.

Oh yeah, there's a filter for that. I meant no filter for spoiler content or spoiler locations.
You can choose to show no pictures, your pictures, your friend list pictures or all pictures.

I'm glad I didn't look at them before beating most areas but yeah, even casually going over them you'll see spoiler things.

The OT is great but it would be even greater with a poll for whether people are going to play Kass or Alex!

1. #teamkass
2. #teamalex
3. #iplayedoriginsfor200hoursandimburnedout

Played a lot for my review and only now reached the point where you
get to hunt down cultists by revealing their identities
.

I was pleasantly surprised, didn't really expect it. I did lots of side quests and don't feel like i'm even 1/4 finished. Game is huge. Side quests are pretty bad though, most of them are "kill bad guys" or "bring me some herbs." I still enjoy exploring because the world is beautiful and the loot is fun, plus you get to upgrade your ship with ressources.

Odyssey also reminds me (to an extent) of Shadows over Mordor with its mercenaries system.

I'm not quoting the above post because I don't want to see what was spoiler tagged. But it's really disappointing to see that the side quests still suck. I was really hoping they were improved from Origins. I did not like those at all, and felt they were pretty awful.

one day I'll understand what people expect from sidequests in rpg or rpg-like games.

or what these fabled games with amazing sidequests are. Either or.

Play The Witcher 3. Not that I would expect AC Odyssey to reach that level.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided had some good ones. Horizon Zero Dawn's were better than AC's for the most part (though not great either). Even Sunset Overdrive was decent in that regard.

Origins' were sooooo mundane and repetitive.

I did everything in Witcher 3, it had fantastic side quests, it also had a ton of fetch quests that all these games have. How fast we forget "get me a fucking pan".
