500 newcomers is pretty crazy if true. Well done Sakurai and team for making this game truly Ultimate.

Yeah I play PAL since 15+ years. Managed to 3 times chaingrab someone on PAL, but it feels kinda random/on the opponent instead of me lol.
Since everyone seems to be doing the "12 characters but starting right now" every other week, I will begin, for a change, a similar discussion instead of a strawpoll (stage strawpoll is still going though).
Imagine that in the wake of Switch being a multi-mode device, instead of Smash Ultimate, Nintendo wants a Multi-Mode Melee. 25 characters and they have a shared mode change button which has to change modes. You are given full creative freedom in interpreting this, but extremely boring modes designed to force an otherwise wanted un-modey character in will be booed out. Go!
I can't get to 25 ATM. I actually think even finishing it and not getting something insane in process is an achievement.

My position remains that we'll get 5>x>2 newcomers where x is the amount of newcomers. 2 is impossibly little but I don't think we're getting more.

Whoever should end up being the next Square Enix rep(assuming Verg is right), I can see the potential for an Echo fighter too. Just like the Simon/Richter reveal.
Imagine this place if we get a dual Geno/Mallow announcement? With the latter as an Echo fighter. if possible.
I still suspect Richter was revealed the way he was to give us the impression of more third party Echos on the way (Sonic>Shadow, Ryu>Ken, Bayonetta>Jeanne, Geno>Mallow, etc.).

No way to make Mallow an echo of Geno, the only way Square will get an echo will be Roxas for Sora, unless there is something that fits for DQ.

Geno is the big finale. It's been asked for years, it's a legend in the way Ridley was before getting in.
My dream is for those 2 getting on the game. It'll be so good.
I'd do Sora at the beginning to start off strong, and close with Geno. Ridley/K. Rool's trailer was also the closing act, so Geno must follow in their footsteps.
Then the Smash Holy Trinity will be all in the game.

You could have Andy or Sami summon various units to fight alongside them for an attack. I think that'd be the best way of making a Wars character. It combines versatility and personality, while also having one individual character that people can cling to.
I guess that's right. Outside of Verg's rumor and very reasonable expectation for one there's nothing that says we need to get one and it would be weird for one of the newcomers in the game to essentially "get less" so to say. At this point before release I don't see why they had to put out a Pokemon song now instead of when the newcomer is revealed. With that said I put it at a 50/50 if Verg is wrong about Incineroar.

I think Geno would be the closer because I assume he wouldn't bring much with him outside of maybe some songs so I wouldn't be too shocked if he closed out a Direct.
On the same token due to his unique circumstance and the fact a third party got 2 newcomers in the span of one roster I could see Sora and Geno sharing a trailer. Geno is already a weird pick all things considered and they have done multi reveals before (Brawl E3 trailer and E3 2013 where they played Villager's and Mega man's trailer back to back) so if they wanted to end on a big splash and they have them both in the pipe line just having them together would be insane.
Not trying to make anything a thing. Geno, K. Rool and Ridley fans were always by far the louder in the Smash community. I've been here since the Brawl days and Geno hype was so strong back then it made me and whole lotta people play Super Mario RPG.

...has it? Geno wasn't that talked about at all during the Smash 4 cycle, it was only until after the interview with Sakurai that people started talking about him again.
For reference, Geno's Smash 4 thread only had about like, 96 pages. Compare that to the other character hopeful threads. In comparison. K. Rool has like, over a thousand.
Fucking Daisy of all people has like 200 pages, for crying out loud.
I mean if the hype really had died off as much as you say (and it probably did in comparison to Brawl), then what was the point of the Mii costume? Why would Sakurai call him "incredibly popular" if that popularity had long since faded away?
to be fair, right now incineroar has less than 20 pages and everyone's acting like they're a lock
plus the daisy thread probably got huge for everyone reacting to memoryman posts
