Well we'll see. I do find it weird they aren't doing it this year given it is a general PlayStation celebration event. It doesn't depend solely on new game announcements to work. Not doing PGW would be understandable if you have no new content.

I liked the reasoning that they're just giving their devs more time in the studios. All these shows must eat into their dev time. Whether it's putting together playable builds/trailers or just pulling people out.

For me, what kills 2019 is the lack of leaks. We don't know shit about the specs, which is a big red flag imo.

Having said that, would that popular chat app really be in development right now for a system that isn't coming out until late 2020? Hmmm.

Didn't the leaks not start happening until November 2012 a few months before Sony announced the PS4. Lack of rumours means nothing it just means Sony are better at keeping it a secret .

It's like people were convinced there will be no Asassins Creed this year because there was no leaks right up until a week or so before E3.

This isn't even the first PS4 leak but this is from March 2012: https://kotaku.com/5896996/the-next-playstation-is-called-orbis-sources-say-here-are-the-details

We've heard jackshit about PS5, a console that is maybe coming out in 2019, so either Sony have somehow magically tightened their ship or PS5 isn't actually coming out in 2019.

We don't even have a codename!

Another big red flag for me is the leak about Scarlet coming in 2020. Microsoft wouldn't let Sony have the market to themselves for an entire year, and I always imagined that next-gen consoles would release alongside each other again so... sorry folks but I'm still on #Team2020 :P

That is commendable no doubt and always a good thing but for Sony's remaining games they have all been in dev 3/4/5 years already and all but MM have had big increases in staff. I don't think they are so pressed they couldn't do such an event.

In fact MM, the smallest Sony team?, have been doing a world tour of events recently.

I think I remember reading a few years back that MM have some other responsibilities besides making games. Helping with events might have been one of them , must try dig it up tomorrow.

Or another situation I believe no one has the nerve to speak out yet. Furthering my Assassins Creed example. After the key ring leak kotaku (I think) posted a heap of information about the game. This information didnt just fall into their laps after the leak, they had it a while but didnt post it until after it was leaked.

I'm still on #Team2020 with PS5, but I'm also on #Team2020 for Xbox Scarlet :P

Okay guys, how likely is a Q1 2020 release? I'm in the Q4 2019 camp, but I'm not ruling out early 2020. The Switch releasing in March 2017 proved that a non-holiday release can generate excellent sales. I'm guessing that both the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett will be out between Q4 2019-Q1 2020. I can't imagine both only being released a full 2 years from now.

Sony has no reason to deviate from the PS4 release schedule for the PS5. The only thing they might want to do differently is to NOT delay the release of the console in Japan.

Q1 2020 launch is problematic because that would mean a PS5 reveal sometime before Christmas 2019. This also means PS4 hardware sales (and as an extension new PSN subscriptions) will be impacted in the most lucrative sales period of the year.

Again, I can easily see Sony waiting all the way until Q4 2020 because A) they make most their money off games and PSN subs so they wouldn't want to disrupt any of that with a late 2019 PS5 announce and B) this will afford them more time to refine/perfect development software to help keep those PS5 game releases rolling along in a progressive fashion

Jason is the gold standard for me. If he hasn't heard anything about the the PS5 coming out in 2019 then I have little reason to believe the PS5 is ready for a 2019 release.

Six months ago I was in this thread saying I can see absolutely no reasons for Sony to release a console before fall 2020. Nothing has changed today.

Microsoft won't want to be later than Sony, so they'll be right alongside them just as they were in 2013.

Still two years to go folks. Get comfortable.

Am i missiing something? Looks people is more confident for earlier releases of consoles. 2020 is still the most probable date right?

Just a lot of people think no PSX means Sony is preparing for an event in early 2019, which would be the PS5's reveal event. And Microsoft probably wouldn't give Sony a headstart so that would put Scarlett at 2019 as well.
Personally, I disagree with those people. Been saying it for ages now, but I fully expect a Q1 2020 reveal and Q4 2020 release for both platforms.

Well I still don't understand Matt suddenly telling us a lot of info 15 months ago now. If the plan was 2019 but then changed, why can't that be confirmed? Surely it would be in everyone's interests (and sanity!) to do so if we still have over 2 years to go....Please!

I didn't say anything about Justice League
I can't possibly see it being Superman at this point. It has to be Justice League if WBIE wants to maintain their edge over Marvel in video games. For a brief moment, I did believe it could be Suicide Squad due to all the Weapon Artists, but I feel as though WBIE is in a "go big or go home" situation. Any insight on a Game Awards teaser?

If it ain't Justice League, that only leaves a few options....

Suicide Squad revival. I would hate this.
Teen Titans.
Batfamily.

They already said it isn't Superman, so we can probably exit him out the equation all together.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure WBM is doing something Batman related, so I'd rule that out. Suicide Squad won't be able to challenge the Avengers project. I'm gonna go with Justice League (Teen Titans possibly down the road).

What if it were a Justice Lords/Crime Syndicate video game? The JLA are actually the antagonists of the story.

Cross-gen games were a terrible idea. In addition to selling poorly on last-gen systems, as people have mentioned over the past few pages in this thread, they put a massive amount of stress on development teams that have to double their SKUs.

Yeah, it's surprising to me how many people don't understand how negative the whole cross-gen strategy last transition actually was. It only happened because publishers were terrified of the death of console gaming. The logical response to how that went is actually to trust that the audience wants next gen only games and to not waste time and money trying to straddle the line. 2014's infamously lackluster reputation is largely down to that failed strategy.

why would they even do cross gen? I mean they will be x86 based. just use close too pc seettings for the ps5/xbnext version. no reasson to make 2 versions of the game.

They will be cross gen games for at least 1 year maybe more games to easy to port .
That is for AAA other games going to get port on everything .

Yep cross gen as we call it will just be like PC settings in a way .

But surely you see the benefits to releasing a game cross-gen when the hardcore audience are switching platforms?

Do you think it's completely unrealistic to expect future cross-gen to be basically like supporting the Pro/X, distinctly easier than targetting PS3/360 and PS4/X1 with completely separate versions?

With BC, I don't expect previous gen platforms to suffer like last gen.

I have one last bet:

Green Lantern Corps.

I read somewhere a long time ago that the green lantern IP was at Rocksteady. WB gave it to them or something. Fits in line with everything they got going on at the studio.

So you think these publishers are all going to repeat a losing strategy just because?

It won't be a repeat.

Last gen and current gen systems were so different architecture wise that it was hard and time consuming making games for both gens. That won't be a problem for next gen since these systems will be so similar.

Thanks to the new system having BC, devs won't have to do anything at all for current gen games to run on them. If they want to enhance the games for next gen, all they need to do is patch the games like they currently do for the Pro/X.

I honestly wouldn't be disappointed if it were a Green Lantern Corps game. Using light constructs in both melee and long range combat would be awesome, not to mention the flight/traversal. I envision a skill tree for your lantern's constructs as well.

Would you prefer playing as an established lantern or something more along of the lines you being a new recruit into the corps and stationed in sector 2814 (I don't really have a preference)? Under a talented studio, this could really turn into WBIE's Mass Effect; an epic sci-fi arpg set in the DC universe.

Assuming Horizon 2 and the like will be available at launch is dreaming. What were the PS4 first party launch titles? Let's see...

Knack, Killzone ShadowFall, and PlayRoom. That's it.

Launch window is certainly a possibility. It's extremely likely that the Decima engine will port over rather smoothly for PS5 hardware, and given that the team will have had likely around 2.5-3 years of development time...it's certainly a possibility.
