So, assuming this winds up being a complete wash...this still delays things long enough to keep Kavanaugh from having any say on Gamble v US, right? I'll take whatever silver linings possible.

Seems like the topics, people and items that are off-limits essentially will work as giant "tells" for journalists (if nothing else) as for what is worth digging into.

This administration has a really weird habit of not only poorly maintaining a poker-face, but underlining in red what - specifically - its worries are by directly mentioning them.

Hell, considering how blatantly partisan Kavanaugh is, I think you'd just have to see how he's responding. If he's all of a sudden comfortable with the FBI investigation then it's obvious the part that has him scared is in the parts deemed out of scope.

I think a lot of this has to do with powerful men not used to covering up for themselves, because usually all it takes is a stare and a veiled threat of "you don't want to do that," to get their way. They've never had to deal the conscientious burial of evidence because they always believed--not incorrectly--that their power would protect them.

Why don't you? If you're so emotional that you can't stand someone expressing an opinion not in your own select echo chamber, then maybe you need to take a time out from all of this.

It's cool, I'm sure you're sceencapping replies to your posts to a 4chan board or subreddit somewhere anyway.

Let's cut to the chase. Do you believe, after all we've seen, that Kavanaugh is fit to be a Supreme Court Justice?

I believe his judicial record speaks for itself.

I have no idea about his personal life, but the FBI will be able to present a credible determination on that front within the week.

That should tell me enough as to his fitness for duty. If he ends up being a scumbag, then of course I would be the first to support removing him as a nominee.

Seriously lol?

The FBI report is basically going to be a report of what various people say. Unless Judge straight out confesses the party happened and he assaulted Ford with Kavanaugh, the report will absolve Kavanaugh simply because nobody remembers the party except for Ford. Even the witnesses she has mentioned don't remember any of this. This is a 35 year old he said/she said. Kavanaugh has nothing to worry about.

Mmmmm....yeah. Hit me with those investigative credibility takes in the face of blatant abuses of power like its business as usual. Should be good prep for next week.

This all strikes me as an impossibly fine line to walk.

You have to be seen to investigate something, so you're taking the investigation seriously, but you have to be very careful you don't find too much because that blows the lid off.

But even putting your thumb on the scale like that is very telling because it shows people where you don't want them to look.

I don't see how this really clears Kavanaugh, it may be enough to give the swing votes cover to confirm him, but really won't make him look anything but guilty to most people.

Oh, we've heard from every single person? And Ford is the only accuser?

Then why was everyone so up in arms about the FBI getting involved? If it's a fruitless endeavor, why the request for it? Why the delay?

So after what you saw of his temperament and character in the hearings you still think that's acceptable behavior for a Justice? A Justice is not nominated and confirmed to the court solely on their judicial record.

And ya, I'm totally sure you'd be the first.

Man, this is basically a perfect distillation of the difference between how men are treated and how women are treated:

Woman gets emotional: "Someone in her position" should have kept it together better.

Man gets emotional: He got emotional but he's worked his whole life for this!

Like, she actually DID hold it together and he definitely did not and still this fucking shit.

His judicial record speaks for itself? How about his recent actions like lying and not answering questions? What about 4 accusations of sexual assault?

This isn't a zero sums game. Experience doesn't mean a whole lot when you have other factors to consider. I really don't care if, for example, a CEO after a decade was accused of sexual assault by multiple women and was applying for my new CEO job, even if he was the most experienced, I wouldn't hire his ass. And that's some random company job not the Supreme Court. Never mind his lying, dodging questions, and his clear partisan stances.

There are 100 just as qualified candidates in the waiting that have never been accused of assault. No reason not to just cut the loss and move on, but they don't. The Supreme court is not a Republican court even if the Republicans have the congress and White House. He is the judge of America, and that includes the women saying he violated them.

I wish Democrats would scream to the heavens when Republicans pull scummy moves like this when they try to get what want. The Republicans are masters of screaming false allegations and conspiracy theories as we saw in the committee. Democrats really need to spread more awareness of how far gone they are and how much of a obstructionist Republicans really are.

Sure. You took time out of your day to find that and not post it as an imbedded tweet.

You can be cynical if you like, but look at my previous posting history, especially in this thread. I don't support anything remotely related to what the mistaken post entails.

I made a mistake in rushing to post something, without looking closer at the details. And apologized.

So you have no issues with how he presented himself to the Senate the other day?

It was a referendum on his temperament, character, impartiality, etc .

I completely agree with your last paragraph, and I completely support the investigation by the FBI into the allegations.

No doubt they'll conduct a thorough vetting of all parties and provide clarity on this situation. Our country deserves as much.

Alright, but maybe you missed the recent demands by the White House trying to severely limit their ability to do just that. If they listen to Trump, they won't.

Swetnick's statement was signed under penalty of perjury. She had various background checks during her carrer.

It must be investigated by the FBI.

White women are a mistake. I cannot believe how quickly a lot of them get in line for status quo bullshit. Nearly gave us Moore and lined up for Trump.

I can't wait for minorities to be the majority.
