Shenmue 1 & 2 possible on Nintendo Switch? Sega Japan answers.

Last week, the Japanese website 4Gamer used Tokyo Game Show 2018 to host Shenmue I & II talk to Eigo Kasahara and Hiroji Noguchi, respectively, localization producer and localization director on the Japanese version of the composition and members. From the original Shenmue team

In this interview, 4Gamer expressed the strong demand for a Shenmue I & II Switch version, a question proved by the results of the SEGA centuries survey organized by SEGA. this comment both men answered:

Hiroji Noguchi: Personally I think it would be nice to play Shenmue on Switch everywhere … (laughs)

Eigo Kasahara: I do not know if it can be done, but I take note of the views of the supporters. Even if answering this request, I would like to consider it.

I can give this a pass for poorly worded translation of something that was meant to convey a "we haven't tried so we have no concrete idea of how to handle it"-idea but what on earth could possibly prevent this from being "doable" other than some random misguided Man in a Suit saying "nah" for no good reason.

Expected Nagoshi's "no audience there" comment but I'm happily surprised. I don't know who's actually making the calls, but Segas remasters skipping Switch (Resonance of Fate too) makes absolutely no sense. Do we need to take their "tests" once again to prove that "the audience" is still here?

Shenmue 1&2 was handled by SEGA Europe/d3t, so he wouldn't know anything about how it would be possible to arrange to get it done. Hence the traditional, non-commital non-answer.

Some games will never come to the Switch, Has nothing to do with making sense or "tests" Not every game needs an explanation of why it's coming or not coming. Not everything has to come to this system.

Reasonance of Fate is being published by tri-Ace for the rerelease.

You could say that for any system. Not everything has to be on the PS4, PC, or the XB1 either. That doesn't mean that people can't question why a game isn't coming to a system or show interest for a game to come to a system in which these games have never previously been available to

Switch can't run Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2? Not to mention, you're assuming that Shenmue 3 can't run on the Switch in any capacity or that there's no audience there, when there isn't anything to indicate that there isn't one there. That and since when is Shenmue 3 coming to the XB1

To sell it and make money. And Shenmue 3 is Unreal 4, so I doubt tech is a problem, but the marketing deal with Sony could. Who knows.

Just because it's UE4 doesn't mean it can run on the system. This argument is done and tried but people never seem to understand that. A phone runs UE4. Anyway, I'm sure Shenmue 3 is coming to X1 eventually, but the point stands. X1 can probably run Shenmue 3 easily.

I definitely can see it down the line, the usual late port strategy.
I still see these games missing the switch as weird decision, cause the system can handle them, they are not to big, they fit the switch user demographic, so, we'll see.

Comments like this make me really sad. "not every game has to come to the system" might be true, but Switch is a platform infected with droughts. Owners have little options, you either play everything that comes to the system or play nothing at all. Like me, I have nothing to play on this awesome handheld right now.

We might not get every game but we sure need more games.

You could chill considering the question was made by a professional magazine about a port of a very old game. It's not people in this forum asking for a very demanding game.

It's not on Switch because Sega West doesn't care much about it for some reason and they were the ones behind the port. If it was only about Shenmue 3, 1&2 wouldn't be on Xbox as wel.

If a game isnt first party, it should come to everywhere possible, at least digitally.
If it can run, it should be done.

Oh totally. But if makes no sense and the audience isn't there, then that's what I'm trying to get at here. AAA games in general are mostly out of the picture but something like this has more to do with audiences and considering the whole point of remastering these games is to obviously get people interested in Shenmue 3.

The double standard for Switch "begging" here is real when this gets such a response in this forum over even Shenmue 1 & 2, yet stuff like portbegging in the Katamari announcement thread or the numerous threads trashing Atlus for not developing for PC are fine.

Yeah, not everything needs to be on every system, but if it's a multiplat release, the system can handle it and everyone is just asking nicely (actually there's no campaign or anything at all from Switch users, this question was made by a gaming outlet because of a poll made by... Sega themselves wanting feedback from Switch owners!) -- what's the problem? What's so offensive about this?

i'm pretty sure i'm on his ignore list, after he wrote like 10 posts, each several paragraphs long, about why final fantasy 7-12 were made with sony money and will remain exclusive forever, like 36 hours before they were announced for xbo and switch, i quoted those posts in the announcement thread so he blocked me

Because port begging is only an issue for certain systems and not others. For many folk, it is as if they hope to God that those games don't end up on even more platforms

Erm......Shenmue 1 & 2 is on the XBO, but 3 is PS4 and PC only.

Right but explain to that to Sega. They obviously think the same when Yakuza guys also said the similar thing regarding audiences. I'm not really sure how they determine that internally when even Wii U got Yakuza games.
