If they are aiming for something huge in 2019, then I don't see a problem with the delay. That and if I recall, last year's PSX kind of dragged on a bit. Still, we'll see what happens next with Sony later on.

I personally think there are way too many award shows and conferences E3, TGS, Gamescom, PSX, PGW, The Game Awards.

Disappointed in a way since The Last of Us Part II reveal was phenomenal in PSX 2016.
They probably would be better with only having conferences at PSX and E3.
E3 is a must and PSX is a pretty sweet event, well spaced out and they get all the attention for themselves.
TGS announcements would need to fit a bit in each show. The European conferences weren't really consistently happening since PSX started anyway. Doesn't seem to me that they were important and just show floor presence is enough.

Guys, they are not revealing ps5 in 2019 and releasing in 2020. Reveal and release will be in the same year. They are not gonna knee cap PS4/ps4 pro hardware sales by having a huge window between reveal and release. I believe in 2019

Nah they still need PGW and TGS. When you have a big EU community and lots of studios, you need to be there. They need to keep a foothold in Japan as well.

People just need to stop expecting megaton announcements at PSX. Matter of fact, I would be fine if they just dropped the keynote altogether. It's the least important part of the conference anyway, it's all about the demos and hanging out with indies

The conference part of PSX was pretty bad last year. Makes sense that they decided not to have it since they have nothing really to show.

I mean if you don't have enough news to hype people up isn't that a problem to be addressed lol

It's pretty bad to come out and say "eh we don't really have much"

Well, there it is.

Sony massaging what I feel is the calm before the storm in February when they announce the PS5. They want hype to naturally ebb and flow up until that point I imagine, without any conferences in between. Red Dead will get its marketing push. After which, Days Gone will get its marketing push and then in February... BOOM, PS5 is announced. All PS4 games are backwards compatible, and enhanced automatically by the system.

Can't wait.

I really don't think PS5 is getting announced next year. A November 2020 release lines up nicely with the remaining PS4 games that are coming out.

Makes sense, though kind of surprised they didn't just cancel the conference but still keep th
e attendees event part for everyone to try out both the couple of close first party games and VR games, indies, and also all those third party playable demos.

I'd be quite surprised if they don't do the reveal and release within the same year again, like they did for PS4. They've even said as much in the past that they'd like the time between reveal and release to be pretty quick. As such, I think they likely won't have a reveal event next year unless they are also releasing next year, same with 2020 if they go with that year instead.

I suppose they could do something like December PSX and then Spring launch, which would be still just as quick, but I'm still leaning toward Fall/Holiday launch with the usual big Fall games being available.

Not hard to do? Did you really just say that a remaster/remake, like one on the scale of Shadow of the Colossus is easy to make? Did you not see the production values they poured into that remake?

They haven't stopped though, they've been partnering with VR games on the scale of those titles you mentioned.

So so far it seems like that money has been invested in even more bigger games and VR games, as well as also two brand new studios (the new VR one and also the big one rumored to be in the mold of ND that might be taking over Uncharted), so no I don't think they've been investing less from what we've seen at least so far. They also still have their own new-ish first-party indie-sized game studio with their second game, Concrete Genie, coming.

That said they really should bring back some indie demo reels to their conferences.
Yes , it's not hard. It's like copying someone's homework while creating a new game is actually doing it from scratch. It's not even close to being the same. I'm not saying it's a cake walk but it's definitely not hard, or even a risk to remake a game, it's simple and cheap.

I don't care about VR games, I don't have a PSVR, and like 95%+ of PS4 owners don't either. They shouldn't have to stop producing regular PS4 titles just because of VR. I mean, if anything the resources from funding Vita games have gone to funding PSVR, though I feel like Vita games are larger scale then most of these VR games. So yes, it has stopped. I mean, you're just contradicting yourself, PSVR games are not "PS4 games", theyr'e PSVR games, they're separate. So when you say that they've moved to VR, you're pretty much agreeing that they've stopped.

You talk about them opening new studios, but they've also closed studios. And ooo, they're making a Uncharted studio, so "risky". And I doubt that VR studio is going to be bigger than 100, or even 50 honestly.

Concrete Genie is a first party studio, I'm talking about 3rd parties.

And the funniest thing about this is, the PS4 is selling a shit ton and their first party games are selling more than ever, and yet they're investing less. Pathetic. This is what a lack of competition does and I am hoping MS does better next-gen. And people are actually defending this.

I'm probably in the minority, but I feel the lowest about PlayStation first party that I have in a long while.

They blew their load so bad at E3 2016. It feels like a never ending tread mill with their first party lineup right now. I want Ghosts, TLOU2, Days Gone, Death Stranding etc to just release to get to something fresh.

I'm so bored of hearing about these games. Glad they're skipping it since they have nothing to show, but seriously, why is there nothing new to show?

I can't agree with you about being bored of their lineup, but I do agree that revealing:

God of War
Death Stranding
Days Gone
Spider-Man
TLOU: Part II

All in 2016 was excessive. They basically revealed their lineup for the rest of the generation.

I dont mind this. Whike i love watching PSX, i honestly dont expect many game announcements of a big nature for PS4. By that i mean nothing on the scale of a GoW.

But i also dont think they will announce PS5 next year. I think thats 2020. They are just missing a year as there are no new announcements.

While i think its stupid, as they could give us more info on Days gone, ghosts, Dreams and TLOU 2, and people can play games, while also hyping PSX Classic, i get why they dont. But they still should have.

There is absolutely no way PS5 is being announced in five months. No way.

I don't mind, I think their lineup is already plenty as is, and it would be a bit irresponsible to announce games years down the line like their some of their previous e3s. Still, it's hard to believe we're already in the winding down phase of the ps4 generation already tho :(

I mean to tea no shade but don't they only have 3 games to show, and those are the same they showed at e3? How many CGI Death Stranding trailers can we take?

They should have announced this earlier.

That being said, it's a good decision - especially if they feel like they don't have a lot to show (yet) or maybe they want to save those announcements (etc) for later..

This. Having two US shows whilst having none outside it is a bad idea.

Also agreed on just dropping the keynote for PSX.

Why the hell do people want next gen so bad? We are just now seeing the best games graphically this gen.

Sucks but I understand. Regret not meeting any of you who went previously!

I do think they should have not streamed it. They should have kept it really exclusive where the best bits would be discovered by only those who attended. Then afterwards they could just upload clips and release articles.

Hopefully this means something is cookin. Been a good month for PS.

Disappointing, not because of potential announcements, but because people won't be able to play demos of upcoming games. No panels, meet and greets, etc.

And doubly disappointing in the face of Microsoft bringing back their Xbox fan event.

I hope they learned the lesson to not announce games so early

??? I'm not entirely sure there would still be anything big to announce at PSX this year that wasn't a next-gen title.

No way in hell would Ghosts, TLOU2, Days Gone, and Death Stranding not have been announced by now regardless. A PSX 2018 would be way too late for any of those titles to be revealed considering they're all probably releasing in 2019.

I don't think it matters where the conferences happen geographically, aside from PSX they are mostly for press. Regular consumers only get to see it through streams.
I'm advocating for those specific shows for other things they bring like a good amount of time between shows and relevance. PSX keynotes used to be held at european friendly hours too, in Saturday morning US pacific. I'm not from the US either, I have no bias for demanding things at specific regions, I actually think it would be cool if the main PSX were to be held in different regions every year.

More than 2 shows and I think they spread themselves too thin.

I think this is more likely due to Sony not wanting to ape the PS4's last E3 next year and the fact they already have 6-7 games set to release. As far as PS5 goes I don't see the hardware, software, or demand being where they need to be 12 months from now. PS4 is still going incredibly strong, why kill its momentum?

PS4 - Fall 2013
PS4 Pro - Fall 2016
PS5 - Fall 2019?

Whelp... seems too soon but plausible at this point. Still hope for Fall 2020 launch.

Microsoft already talked about the next Xbox. I dont think this has as big of an effect on sales.

Also, what would Sony show at E3 2019 without showing Ps5 games? The same stuff as this year?

I think Sony will show us Horizon 2 and Bloodborne 2 at E3 2019 and announce a backwards compatible Ps5, so people can still jump in on the Ps4 without losing their library.

You guys think that Sony will put out more trailers at TGA because they don't have any press conferences in the fall?
