I've gone 100% digital on Switch, for no other reason than physical games are incredibly expensive in my country.

Still buy my PS4 games physical, though - which, given the fact I don't really plan on collecting Sony consoles, is convenient from the resale perspective.

I decided to go digital as well for a couple of different reasons. The main reason though is I just don't want the clutter and space required for having a physical item. I know this seems petty, but I am trying to keep things as simple as I can.

I have nothing to show for all of the physical games that I have bought over my lifetime. They were either pawned for a fraction of what I bought them for, loaned out, or lost. It's not really that important to me to physically own the game.

Would love to know the ages of posters swearing off digital and buying physical versions of every game. Once you move a few times, you realize it ain't worth saving so many plastic boxes.
After my first move, I realized I didnt need any of that shit, and my games werent that much to begin with.

Also, I'm a lazy fuck. I don't like dusting off shelves every two or three days.

Was there like 8 years ago. Only exception is when I buy a used game... which happens like once every other year or so.

There's a balance to be sure, but before my last move I sold off some of my extra games I didn't think I'd play again and got a few thousand dollars. If those games were digital, they'd have been worth a grand total of $0. I'll never understand anyone's eagerness to buy digital games with no tangible value when there is a physical option.

Those games are from generations where digital alternatives didn't exist, which meant that they are a finite commodity and enables you to play the game. Without them, you cannot play many of those games, which inflates the price. Nobody is going to pay you anything in a decade for your copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 because if they want to play it, they will just download it on XBL/PSN. Look at pre-Steam PC gaming as an example of this; nobody would pay you much for original Starcraft or Diablo discs anymore because people can just grab them off Blizzard's website when needed.

Obviously there are exceptions to the rule (Nintendo), but for the most part I don't think it makes any sense to continue buying physical copies, especially since many games get large patches/updates in the weeks and months after release.

I've started going all digital with the Xbox One S/X, Gave my sister the S with the last bunch of physical games I had when I purchased the X. I've been enjoying it a lot for the most part. I have noticed that I sit longer to look at all the games before I figure out what I wanted to play and it's nice to jump in and out of games so quickly. But I'm different about the PS4 and Switch. I had a ton of digital games on PS3 that never came over to the PS4. So it killed the digital purchases for me for a few years. Same goes for the Wii U. I also worry about having my account hacked and end of losing everything without a way of getting it back. Microsoft won me back over to purchasing digital with their big push for BC. I just feel safer with going all digital with them. Going into the future I can see PS5 having PS4 games on it. so how knows.

Xbox One, Steam - all Digital
PS4, Switch - physical if available.

All digital except Nintendo first party games. As I have gotten older I don't like clutter of game boxes.

Also realized trade in was rarely worth it unless a store was on my normal route to work or less than 5 minutes away from where I live.

Most people don't value their own time , but once I factored in gas and my time , 30 dollar trade in becomes more like 5 bucks if that lol.

Game installation size is the most annoying factor with digital only, constantly having to juggle which games you have installed drives me crazy to the point where I rather just buy some games on disc.

I use digital because of gamesharing. However, it's really about price above anything

Been doing it for years.

I did go back and try to play old 360 stuff and a few minor things are delisted and unable to even download from my purchase history though.

I've been all physical so far (on PS4). I like collecting games and feeling that I own them, but it takes space and I rarely replay games that I've finished.
Now I'm seriously considering building a PC, going all digital for 3rd party games and buying physical copies only of PS4 exclusives.

I've been digital only since soon after the PS4 Launch. I love it...the convenience is awesome, I can play a little bit the day before launch day...don't have to go to a brick and mortar store...don't have to wait for amazon to deliver (which was always on time)...less clutter with physical discs (which keeps the wife happy)... I only wish that they started having similar deals to actual stores...but it is a trade off I'm willing to do at this point in my life.

I've moved a few times and moving the games is the easiest part. The cases are pretty uniform and stack nicely and easily in a box. It's the easiest thing to pack and move and I have more games than most people on this forum.

Going digital would require me to get a larger hard drive for my PS4 & a Micro SD Card for my Switch, so I'm gonna stick with physical copies (whenever possible) for now. I honestly regret not waiting until this year to get Sonic Mania.

Also I'm not sure if it just the area I'm in or the games but I find it much more difficult to sell used games nowadays than years ago. And no way I'm trading games in at gamestop unless they have some amazing deal going on. I have to imagine part of it is because many people are all digital nowadays.

Can't loan. Can't sell. Pay more. Don't own. The platform holder/publisher has no competition for your sale and becomes judge, jury and executioner in deciding how much you pay and how long your temporary license stays active for. No thanks.

$20 is the maximum value I've placed on purchasing a temporary license.

I'm not ready for it on consoles because the sales are still too infrequent and too poor quality. Also I don't trust console forward compatibility.

If PS5 & X2 fully support all PS4 & X1 games day 1, I will start considering a digital console library. (Sony will also have to change some of their license policies, and prices will have to improve)

I don't know about going all digital but I do that for most new PC and Switch games so far.

I'm not.
Poor DSL connection.
Don't trust companies about keeping online server.
More expensive.
Worried about games preservation (a disc without patches is always better than NOTHING).

Yeah, I know disc rot bla bla bla.
My house can burn.
Stealing.

There are risks everwhere, that's called "life".

I'm ready to stay physical for ever.

I am 99% digital because I only (at this time, RDR2 may change this because I am weak) own a PC.

That said, my rural Internet is just barely fast enough to make an all digital future a possibility, though only for 1 person in the house at a time. You want to watch Netflix and game at the same time? Nope, not going to work.

Ps4 sales are actually quite good now. Steam sales on the other hand have been shit for years now while they used to be amazing. No clue about xb1 sales.

Yeah Steam's not great these days, but there are still killer deals on PC from other sites.

PS4 sales are getting better, but until I can buy AAA games day 1 for $40-ish on PSN... nah (I can do that on PC).

Yeah true about the other sites but the nature of it all is so volatile. It could change quickly like we used to be able to get such better deals and cheaper games before valve changed the region stuff. You can usually get new games cheap used though fairly quickly but that is physical not digital.

Do it! I have almost 200 ps4 games on my hdds and i can't even begin to imagine the clutter that it would be...
And on top of that we don't pay taxes on psn... for now...

Digital-only isn't very feasible for me. Takes forever to download games with this connection, and I love physical media too much to abandon them. If I ever have to move, I don't think moving around my physical games gonna be much of a pain, I'm extremely organized with those things lol

That said, digital is still a very nice option and a good thing to have. I'm considering getting Smash Bros digital just so I can play it as soon as its out (assuming there's preloading), but ehhh I already have the special edition preordered... I can afford to wait.

Too infrequent? There's literally always a sale on PSN. Once one ends another starts.

I've gone digital here, which is weird cause I said I never was gonna but physical games here in South Africa are expensive and I can either get it cheaper from gmg or such. Also with the subscriptions like Origin Access and Gamepass... yeh.. it's sad. Maybe once the games I adore hit cheap prices in stores I'll get them.

It's been this way on PC for ages and consoles are moving in that direction whether we like it or not.

Digital for almost all of my Switch games. 100% digital on PC games. PS4/Xbox is about 50/50.

If I really want a game day 1 and don't want to go to the store I usually buy digital for the pre-load. I then pick the game up physically later down the road for cheap. I loving having a collection and space isn't a huge issue for me.

100% digital. I'm just too lazy to swap disc and ended up rebuying a lot of games. It's a bit more expensive but way more convenient.

I will never be 100% digital as long as it is still possible to buy physical media. Maybe if digital ownership rights actually matched those of physical ownership, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I really don't understand why people are willing to give up actual ownership of the media they buy unless it's the only option available

I get most games new for $50 CAD through pre-ordering deals, so there's no way I'm going to switch to digital and pay $80 CAD.

Don't the whole disc get installed on the HDD anyway and you are using the same amount of space as digital?

I have been 100% digital since several years now and I would buy a next gen console without an optical drive, if they offer one.
