I've been saying this for days over and over. I'm getting tired of saying it, but it seems like some of you are surprised by this which is surprising to me

JEFF FLAKE IS NOT DIFFERENT. Neither is Collins. Neither is Murkowski. This was always going to be 100% rammed through.

Take the L on this seat because we have no choice but to and go vote in November

Yeah, take the L on this seat. Take the L on the next 30 to 50 years of American judicial policy. Great fucking idea.

This isn't some minor appointment. This is the man who will dictate the future of the law in this country for long after every wrinkled-up condom masquerading as a human being who voted for him is dead and buried.

We failed. America is dead. There's no coming back from this in our lifetimes, no matter what happens in November.

I'm imagining Trump's rhetoric and attacks in a Trump vs Harris campaign and I'm shuddering

True, if he was able to get the alt-right formed around Democrats who were white woman and a black man individually I can't imagine the evolved form it would take on for a singular person who is a Democrat woman, black, and Indian. I still hold out hope for 2018 being a big turning point, but all this stuff around Kavanaugh is really showing the colors of our citizens even more.

Nothing makes me more sick then hearing a bunch of white, male, ancient fucks all constantly and consistently tell all the women in this country, Dr. Ford and myself included, that the voices of women mean absolutely nothing and that unless you have a penis you aren't worth anything...

Can Harris just announce her 2020 candidacy yet? I already liked her before, but after the Kavanaugh hearings she just shot to my most wanted list of candidates.

She's a black woman in the Democratic party. Not a chance.

Past 2 days have been heartbreaking to watch. What a sham of a system.

Kavanaugh is explicit in the fact that he is gling to be nothing but a rubber stamp on Republican policies & an automatic No on vote on Democrat initiatives.

You cannot simply take an L on a blatantly partisan hack.

I would legitimately fear for her life. Not that she would be cowed by fear because she seems strong, but with the way things going... man.

Well, damn, I guess it was too much to hope that someone in the US voting government would have a soul.

RIP American Citizen Rights for the duration of Kavanaugh's SC Voting Authority

We have to stack the court when we have power back. It's the only fucking answer.

We need to stop giving a shit about decorum and the norms of running a country. One party already did.

USA is slowly becoming a dictatorship. Once the SC is full of trumpians he will be able to ignore laws and court decisions

What makes you think that the trump administration will respect the congress?
Just like all these dictatorships that Trump and Republicans love to critic like Venezuela or Nicaragua. Guess they don't like what Maduro and Ortega do, but they aren't afraid to use the same tactics.

It is unbelievable that this once great country continues to fall to new lows every week.
This country was never great. Only for white men.
Was my post unreadable?

Stop being concerned about being viewed as the "angry black ___" by people who already saw you as that any damn ways and idk, get fired the fuck up about a rapist ascending to the Supreme Court.
Won't make a difference, no one listens to black people
Term limits have gone from outrageous five years ago to not the best idea a year go and almost necessary now. If Congress wants to limit presidential terms then they should get no more than two terms in the senate. The states responsible for keeping these sexist dinosaurs in power should be ashamed of themselves.
It ain't just the old people, as gamers have shown us. Too many people think racism and sexism is an old person problem, it isn't. It's oassed down to younger people as well.
We all should boycott work in protest! We gotta do something ffs!
I'm of the mind that if half the country did this wed see results.

Please no. I don't want to lose another election. As wrong as it is, this country isn't ready for a woman president. They just aren't. Especially going up against Trump again. That would be such a dumb play.
Clinton got three million more votes than him. He won on a technicality due to the nature of our electoral college process and how those votes are dolled out, state by state. The country is ready, by and large. She would just need to pay a little more attention to the flyover states to avoid the same demise as Clinton.

True. The time for playing nice and rolling over is done. I don't give a shit.

Trump mentioned in his rambling presser that he also needs to pick 145 judges for the rest of the year in lower courts. We are so fucked with shit judges for decades to come.

Get rid of lifetime appointments for anything.

Harris would be quick to check Trump if he insults her in a potential presidential election.

If she's progressive enough and runs against Citizens United, I can see her having great success against Trump.

Don't forget he is deeply unpopular.

The difference is that the USA is a dictatorship that A) They're profiting off of and B) has the same "values" they enjoy.

The rhetoric I've heard from some people mirrors that of religious extremists but because it's Christian it's okay, unlike ISIS, etc.

(No don't derail the thread on this because I mentioned ISIS, please. It's an example. Not a statement of approval or equivalency.)

You have no choice but to take the L. Your choices are.. live with it, or live with it. Because it's already gone. It's just reality. Ignoring reality and leaving in a fantasy where the seat isn't lost doesn't produce anything

that's not a technicality, it's how our country elects the president.

No. You fight tooth and nail and the second you have congressional control you immediately impeach this man. Supreme Court Justices can be impeached.

I guarantee you all the major 2020 contenders will pledge to open an FBI investigation into Kav if elected.

Independents, moderate Democrats and Republicans. Trumpeters are a lost cause. They'll fall in line eventually or give up. Either way they dont matter.
The way to win is actually court minorities and younger people, there are a lot of shithead youth with right views but there's also those who who don't hold shitty views. We need to get them in the polls. Show how the laws are affecting them, court them with policies that they benefit from.

E-mails Show That Republican Senate Staff Stymied a Kavanaugh Accuser's Effort to Give Testimony

Clune answered the Republican staffer's questions, suggesting that Ramirez did, in fact, have additional witnesses and other evidence. And, he said, of Ramirez's willingness to testify to the committee's investigators, "We couldn't answer without learning more from you about the details of whatever process you are contemplating. After hearing more, we would advise the client accordingly." Davis then requested that Ramirez's team provide evidence in the form of a letter, e-mail, or statement to the committee's investigators before he would consider a call. Clune continued to try to schedule a call with a Democratic staffer on the e-mail thread, but Davis wrote back to him, saying that, "before we discuss a phone call or any other next steps, again, we need to have the following information," and reiterated the two questions.
...

Ramirez's attorney, Clune, disputed that description of the committee's response, saying in a statement that he had responded "quickly and positively" to each of the committee's inquiries. "Almost immediately in our correspondence, they became less interested in hearing from her and more interested in discovering what witnesses we could bring forward. Since it was only the majority staff that made these demands, as the minority staff questioned those demands as unprecedented, we became suspicious that any disclosures we might file would be shared inappropriately with Judge Kavanaugh or others to prepare and attack Debbie's account," Clune wrote. "Since Debbie's interest was in an F.B.I. investigation where Judge Kavanaugh could be questioned under oath, we didn't feel comfortable releasing this information without their assurances. We continued to attempt to negotiate in good faith by submitting a lengthier letter providing more information as well as Debbie's request for investigation. Other than replying 'received' on Thursday morning, the committee has not responded. It is remarkable that the committee admits they had enough information to question Judge Kavanaugh under oath on Debbie's statements in The New Yorker, yet that very same information was insufficient for Debbie's counsel to earn even a phone call."

If Trump gets a third or even fourth SC judge, there's the option of court packing when Dems get the chance.
Unfortunately that's not an option. Consider that we're dealing with an adversary with no sense of integrity or restraint. Let's say for the sake of argument the Dems -- whose spines traditionally turn to jelly at the mere prospect of doing something the Republicans have already done, let alone something unprecedented -- take the remarkable step of adding a couple more justices to the USSC to stop the bleeding.

We know the blue wave will not hold up. Americans are staggeringly stupid so we're looking at another GOP trifecta in about 10-14 years. And we are dealing with the Terminator in political party form. They won't stop at two more justices. They'll add another ten, just as a fuck you don't try this again. Does that sound absurd? Of course it sounds absurd. So is confirming a rapist to the Supreme Court, or pretty much every Republican policy of the last. . . well, as long as I've been an adult, so a good ways further back. If they can do it, what's going to stop them? Shame? The Dems would need to literally pass a Constitutional Amendment to slam the door afterwards, and there's now way they have the guts, let alone the votes, to do that.

The time to prevent it was 2016. That was our only shot. People gotta let go of those delusions that 2016 is reversible. Everyone needs to vote in 2018 to stop the bleeding, but this damage isn't going anywhere in the short term. The 2016 debacle was the most significant step America has taken to becoming Gilead in the past fifty years. The first priority for the next fifty isn't even to get back to where we were, but to slam the brakes as often as we're allowed.

This isn't to sow despair, but to get everyone properly thinking triage or it's going to happen again (which it will, because idiots). Politics has always been a long game. You can survive a severe laceration and even fully recover, but only if you realize it's a serious injury that takes significant resources and time to heal. You don't treat it like a damn scratch and figure a band-aid will do the trick. Infuriating thing is I was screaming this stuff back during the Dumbya years and America goes and finds someone even less qualified and makes him President.

This kind of reminds me of that doug jones vs roy moore thread where everyone was all doom and gloom, and were sure moore was going to win.

I mean it was absolutely ridiculous how pessemistic everyone was, and when Jones won everyone was like "oh yeah I knew he would win".

I predict something similar happening during the senate vote lol
What? That was an election by the american people.

This is an election by the politicians.
