Yikes...
No thanks. Didn't that shitty portable SNK had clicky thumbsticks? They fuck up again.

Hey, we still have the Hamster versions to fall back on! And we can even use clicky joysticks with those!Huh, Metal Jesus is one of the few Youtube folks who I actually have some respect for, so this video goes a long way with me. Disappointed for sure, as an old school arcade fan. Too bad.

I can kinda understand not going full-hog with the controller using a microswitched dpad, but I can't get how they let the controller be this bad. I knew it would be awful just seeing it in the announcement trailer, with how much travel there is.Around the eight minute mark a SNK representative responds with "clicky thumbsticks is very hard to make".
Ehh, I wasn't aware of the og controller having microswitches so I couldn't expect them here but I definitely see the luxury in preferring them.
...hey, hey now. Don't go saying things you'll regret. This Neo Geo mini makes my Neo Geo X look luxurious, in term of hardware and usability.
You can either have 6 or 7 pieces of shitty plastic sitting around with severely limited options, or you can emulate. Yeah, no thanks.
and how many people have that kind of money and equipment to do that?
I do wish this was a better product. SNK please~
I mean I would not care if these pieces of plastic had more options, were more capable, et cetera. But they all look like junk to me you put on a shelf after a few hours.
As for emulation.... ehhh quite a few emulators work just great on your phone dude.
I just meant that not many people have the money or equipment to emulate these games legally, and that's why these retro mini consoles might be a good alternative. Well if they were done well that is. SNK please...
You can buy great versions of most of these games for $7.99 a pop on all major consoles.
I'm still shocked how SNK mismanaged this project. It makes them look bad.
Ofcourse and I buy a good number of them on the consoles, but it's just a nice alternative for people if done right.
It makes me sad they couldn't get the pad right since Neo Geo CD pad is one of my favorite pads of all time.
Yikes...

Yes. But it wasn't shitty! It was such a great portable! I loved the NGPC!

Yep, even the Neo Geo X had microswitches.Sorry, I meant the recent retro one, I wouldn't call NGPC shitty, it was a cool portable. But yeah the NGPC sure had one. Which make it even more baffling.
I did a quick check and I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet.I'm a casual when it comes to SNK and I'm ok with the no microswitches. I know that's blasphemous but it's because I'm a casual and I don't know the history well. I'm just buying this to put in the same area as my NES and SNES classic so I can have a mini console station. Does anyone know if this will be hackable?
Wow at all of the bad reviews & the complaints about this product.
Once again, SNK blows a good opportunity within us old-school gaming fans, just like with the Neo Geo X. And when even a chinese knockoff can even include a internal battery, that's a huge problem within the official product itself.
I don't buy the hamster's versions because of this. A simple QOL, the games already have a console "port" built in but they aren't bothered to enable a simple Neogeo Mode = MVS/AES dipswitch on the emulator.

Bear in mind that the Hamster releases are called "Arcade Archives", not "Arcade & Home Port Archives" - they were always supposed to be emulations of the original coin-op versions with a few back-end features added, not a comprehensive collection of all versions of the game (otherwise, how big would ACA Gradius have been? Yikes). That the AES versions were not present should not be a surprise to anyone who's paying attention.Yeah, same here. All it would take is changing a single bit in memory to access the complete version of those games, and yet they won't do it. It's completely stupid.
I wish there was more vocal complaining to Hamster about this. But I guess most people aren't aware of all the features they're missing in some of those games.

Their recent re-releases on PS4, Switch, XBox One, Windows, along with KOF 14, SNK Heroines and Samurai Spirits, and the KoF Destiny series prove otherwise.
They are looking great as of late. It's just this hardware offering that is disappointing. Otherwise they are on the up-and-up imo.Their recent re-releases on PS4, Switch, XBox One, Windows, along with KOF 14, SNK Heroines and Samurai Spirits, and the KoF Destiny series prove otherwise.
I think they are better than ever.

I do agree that including the AES versions would be a nice gesture from Hamster, though they would need SNK's permission to do so, since they're a distinct "version" of the games. The ball's in SNK's court on that one.
Why the hostility and condescension? I basically agreed with you, while also pointing out that the choice to offer AES modes is up to Hamster/SNK. If you really feel so passionate about the issue, then tweet @ Hamster about it. No need to get antsy at me about it.You don't seem to understand that AES mode is literally the same ROM. Adding AES mode will not make it a "collection". Your comparison with Gradius makes no sense. AES mode is not a port, it's the same ROM with a different bit set in RAM.
I don't care what it's called, excluding the option to switch to AES mode makes those releases incomplete. There is literally more to those games within those ROMs, that is artificially kept away from us.

Besides, if you're really that up in arms about it, just emulate the AES versions on your device of choice. Nobody's stopping you from enjoying these games any way you want to.
To add insult to injury, Hamster don't know how scanlines works. Their implementation is hideous. Seems like they first apply it to the original res screen so the lines get all fucked up if you stretch to fit the image on a 4:3 frame with some other lines double the windth.
