Just a little video about how awesome Final Fantasy VI was and still is today.
A game that many call the best in the franchise, with a great cast of characters and impressive story for its time.

I wasn't sure if it was worth making a thread for it but hey, I just wanted to share the love for this game.
I played it may years after it was originally released, but even when surrounded by more modern games, I clearly noticed how special this one is.

Video made by Brandon Jones from Easy Allies.

The game is all right. First half is great, but the second half loses me each time I try to play the game. Preferred the more linear approach of the first half than the second half where you had to
recruit all your party members all over again

Yes of course it is. Maybe even the best in the series. From start to finish, great moments and characters throughout the entire game.

FFVI is a marvelous game that happens to also enjoy aggrandizement in people's memories — especially noticeable among JRPG critics. It has some rather glaring flaws that would be eviscerated if judged through a more impartial lens.

Haven't watched the video because I'm on awful internet at the moment, but I look forward to it.

I actually loved that. It was a nice compliment to the linearity of the first half.

Without really arguing here I just would want to add that the video is pretty genuine and not nostalgia biased. Jones has done a full playthrough of the game not that long ago and streamed that which has likely motivated this video. He also seems to have largely not engaged too deeply into guides on the game so despite various replays of it through his life streamchat managed to teach him new things about the game.

I replayed it two years ago. Twice! On iOS, not a bad port with the nice QoL enhancements and on the SNES. Loved both playthroughs like it was my first. Game is special.

The excellent sprite work and god tier OST help tons. It's not the hardest game in the world. That's probably its biggest weakness.

Although FF7 will always have the greatest nostalgia value for me, I think 6 is probably the best FF.

I will always be more personally impacted by Final Fantasy IV, but I can't deny that VI was the crowning achievement of the property at the time and still holds up as a solid JRPG with a lot of value. Great video.

That video was so god damn heartfelt and well done. Bless Jones.

The only thing I would have like if he showed the last bossfight a bit with Dancing Mad in the background. Didn't even mention in in the 5 minutes afterwards lol.

Aside from the fact that Final Fantasy 6 is an excellent game, I was going to riot if this presentation alone didn't win it a spot alone.

It has become fairly trendy to denounce Final Fantasy 7 in certain circles, but I still think it is the best mainline Final Fantasy game. That being said, when people say they think Final Fantasy 6 is better, a part of me agrees. They are both very special games in my eyes.

Best FF ever, 2nd best SNES/SE JRPG (Chrono Trigger is first).

Agreed 100%!

And for everyone that's already beaten the game, you should check out this 1994 interview with a bunch of the FFVI staff :)

Really great stuff!

I spy a young Soraya Saga (Kaori Tanaka) and Tetsuya Takahashi ;)

Soraya's info on Sabin and Edgar is a great read as well!

I agree that the combat in general is the game's weakness. It's too easy by far, presenting few challenges, and most characters' personal skills seldom retain their usefulness beyond the early game, being overpowered by same-y magicite builds unless one restricts themselves for RP purposes. There's also the fact that entire stats were bugged into irrelevance until the GBA port.

It is definitely a magical experience, though — only matched or exceeded in sheer charm by FFIX, IMO. Wish it'd gotten a FFIV 3DS-style remake with a similarly heavy difficulty bump (although nowadays I'd personally prefer Octopath-style graphics, anything sub-photorealism would do, because a remake shouldn't take a decade).

I was near the ending when i realized i
i killed shadow for good :/

I stopped playing the game and this made me get pissed with It, because it requires that you play with a Guide to fully enjoy the game.

Even with that experience, an excelent game.

I played FF VI for the first time last year and this is how I felt. I hated that story progression pretty much halted in the second half of the game. I definitely prefer other FF titles like IX or X.

Everybody.
Gonna shit in your cornflakes there. One, I have always been a one save file guy. Never felt the need to keep other slave states around for any game ever. Two, the opera scene us one if my least favorite scenes in the game, and it is by far my favorite FF game, I try to give it a run through once a year.

Fuck that. A 3DS style remake would totally ruin the game IMO. The immaculate spritework, can only be topped by a modern HD spritework. The low poly, bland 3DS versions of 3 and 4 , while they play nice and a definite improvement for 3, just paled to the colorful world that 4 was.

I wasn't really referring to graphics with that comment, as per my later stated preference for a remake's graphical style. More the raised difficulty, and in FFVI's case, a need for a definitive version with high quality music in addition to improved localization and additional content. Voice acting could be nice, too.

The FF6 video is part of the "Hall of Greats" show from Easy Allies by the way for anyone interested:

It's a fun stream/show where they all defend a game that they consider 'one of the greats' and at the end they vote. The 2 top ones then go into the 'Hall Of Greats'.

God damn, a couple of those tracks made me tear up and I've only played the game once, back when it originally came out.

if only Square can just make a straight port of the SNES version without any bullshit texture filters

I'm just playing it again and comparing it to FFXV one can only wonder: what happened? It's still one of my favorite games of all time, Terra's theme ftw!

6 is my favorite, was very disappointed by 7 when it came out in comparison, hated how everyone in 7 where basicslly blank templates in combate with the materia system.

It is a game that deserves so much more than the treatment square enix has given it. I played FF VII, VIII and IX then went back to play IV and V before picking up VI on the PS1 that came with the FFX demo. The game left so much a bigger impression on me than all the others, IX being a close-ish second. Seeing this article made me grab that same physical copy Ive had all these years and upon inspection it has the tiniest speck of disc rot. My heart cracked a little. :'(

It's a great game, but also one I think could really benefit from a remake or remaster. There still isn't a definitive version today, without playing a patched version on emulator or something. Plus, the tile-based movement feels clunky today, and there's awkward stuff like paths behind buildings where your character is obscured from view.

I'd love to see this game re-released with just a few updates to make it perfect.

FF6 was a favorite as a kid. As I've gotten older, it has cooled for me. Still a good game. Just realized that I really don't care for many of the characters, including Kefka, who used to be my favorite. Game still does have the best boss music though. That shit gets you AMPED.
