But I wasn't arguing with anyone. I was just pointing out that there are other examples of the phenomenon happening.
call them points then
it's cool though, we're off topic

I don't know. Even if it's Valve, I doubt they will be able to have that mainstream appeal. Looking forward to hearing more though.
People completely missed the point you were making but I didn't. Respect. I know the feeling you are talking about.
If there is an embargo how is IGN talking about it? No way is it this Astro Bot game. While it looks fun, it's not revolutionary. You must not have been following this thread, because it's already been explained why it doesn't have to be something unannounced. Astro Bot comes out in a week, the journalist is talking about the game saying that he cannot go into details, likely because of an embargo which drops in a week from now. The IGN preview talks about how this game is a "reinvention of the platform genre". So it can be Astro Bot.
Friendly reminder: Mario 64 came out over 20 years ago.
Not if it's PC only, or requires new dedicated hardware.Half-Life 3 and Portal 3 even Left 4 Dead 3 VR exclusive would 100% have appeal.
Never understood the hype with RE7 in VR, its just the regular 2d game, but in VR it puts you in the game, but with the same limited controls. Its a cool experience, but its very lacking when it comes to a proper VR experience.
They said they were new games, and when Artifact was announced they clarified it wasn't one of the 3. Dota already has a VR mode so I don't think that would be it, and I really can't see them porting an old game like P2.Do we know if the Valve VR titles are going to be brand new titles or current titles "VR-if-ied"?
I could see it being:
- Artifact VR
- Dota 2 VR
- Portal 2 VR
Obviously VR independent titles would be preferable, but could this be the case?
Are you out of your mind?
He'll be talking about Astrobot. It looks like a fantastic game that does things unique to VR, but yet again the goalposts will be moved as to what qualifies as a VR-defining title.
Yeah, if this is Astrobot he's not doing the game, or VR, any favour with all this hyperbole.I don't think it's moving goalposts so much as him misrepresenting his hype. I looks like an amazing title. But it's not going to change the trajectory of VR in any meaningful way (which is how he's selling it). And he could have hyped up his coming impressions without going all cryptic. It's not like the entire world doesn't know it exists.
A person expressing excitement for something? On social media?! Who the FUCK does he think he is?!?!?!?If it is any good or groundbreaking, it will create the spotlight by itself. What he is doing is creating hyperbole.

Dreams is an interesting guess, i think that would definitely qualify as a Mario 64 moment (if that means elevating gaming to a new level through a new technology). My mind is already slightly blown about the ability to create a world from a god eye view then walk around it all in VR
This thread makes me realize how much Playstation own VR, everyone's favorite games are exclusive there.
That is not a good example of hyperbole. Actually, I don't think its an example of hyperbole at all. Exaggeration maybe but its very much possible that whatever he is talking about does define the medium.Expressing excitement: "I am excited for this game", "I think this game is awesome"
Hyperbole: "I think this game is going to be the defining moment for the medium!"
Everyone is saying what Jeremy has said is hyperbole but this takes the cake. So you're saying that technology 20 years in the future can't possibly replicate something that was made 20 years in the past?.....Ok lolNo chance. VR is a gen or 2 at least away before developers can produce anything as defining as super Mario 64.
Not really. PC has way way way more VR exclusives and better experiences. Budget Cuts, Lone echo, Robo Recall, Raw Data, and much more. PS had RE7 which is still just a normal game translated to VR and there are ways to bootleg RE7 into VR and many other games like alien, Half Life, doom and even old GameCube games.
Even with Astro Bot while it looks like a far better platformer than Lucky's Tale, this idea of a platformer that you have to move around to change perspective was done years ago.
Don't get me wrong I'm a Vive owner and I know there are great experiences on PC. But it seems like in the popular consciousness PSVR has the VR games people really care about.
I mean, My fave games on Vive are super hot, space pirate trainer and stand out, and I think only one of those isn't also available on PS VR, and none which I care about as much as people seem to about resi.
The lab is special but is a tech demo really
I think that has more to do with PSVR being on a popular console with a proper marketing machine behind it. Most of my favorite games are PC only at the moment and some will always be because they're Oculus exclusive.Don't get me wrong I'm a Vive owner and I know there are great experiences on PC.
