If you have a game collection that is big enough to insure, you have too many video games. Sell them or donate to charity please.

That's horrible. I'd be gutted if that happened to my collection.
This makes no sense. If you have a large collection then you should then sell said collection or donate it? Why?
That like, the opposite of a collection. A collection is a personal thing. I collect videogames. I'm not running a charity here. I spend my hard-earned money on things I want to own. I don't earn money to just give it away, I'd just as well just give away random amounts of money. I'd rather have a rare videogame than have the cash on my bank. It's for me to keep; to collect.isnt that the point of collections? giving away stuff?
like, i want to collect mugs, so i gift everyone but myself with them. its what's inside your heart that counts.
No one around here will insure something like that for the entry price lower than buying an entire second set of copies.

Wait, I'm so confused here. Your wife collects sugar packets? Why? Do they have different designs on them? You're right! My wife collects sugar packs for coffee and has a buttload of them, like 20 "books" full (i dont know whatelse to call them). She has to donate them all charity!
I'm gonna tell her PatMan said so! Collecting stuff is not allowed!

That is such a weird stance. How is it consumerism if I buy physical vinyl LP's and regularly listen to them? Yes, since I don't throw them in the garbage or sell them on I am collecting them. Doesn't mean it is bad or a sign of consumerism. On the contrary I feel like services like Spotify or Netflix lead to consumerism because any sense for the value of music/movies/TV shows get lost if you don't actually associate any value with them and just listen to whatever.Personally I've always viewed collecting things as a vice. If you are actually using them regularly, it's one thing, but if you are collecting just to put it on a shelf, it's kind of a grotesque representation of our cultural obsession with consumerism and material wealth. It's not to say I've never collected anything, but when I do I tend to feel more shame over it than pride.
