If I were to be frank, I don't want both. And a lot of DmC fans would tell you they would want DmC and not the other. I know there are fans out there who like both but even they have a strong preference for one over the other.

There's no reason for alternating between two very different worlds, characters, tones, and what have you that all share the same name coexisting under the same banner in what people love to remind us is a niche genre. The fact of the matter is it was always going to be one or the other, I'm just happy the one I wanted won out in the end.

Sorry, DmC fans, hopefully you get a spiritual successor or something down the line.

Most DmC fans see V as clearly being a the spiritual successor. Even Nero, say what you will about his basic design for a sequel being hashed out after DMC4, seems to look and act much closer to DmC Dante than would be expected from 'here's Nero in a sequel'.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Itsuno did work on DmC, didn't he? Why are people so surprised by him liking it? Or some aesthetic elements of DmC carrying over to DMC5? Only game of his I can think of him throwing under the bus is DMC2, and that's understandable because DMC2 is miserable.\, and he still uses elements of DMC2 in his games.

Itsuno gets a tattoo of DmC on his forehead: "Oh wow such a display of Japanese professionalism supporting this awful, awful title that he's clearly ashamed of and is just saving face by supporting NT!"

Having Itsuno there with Ninja Theory would have definitely made for a better game. DmC wasn't bad, it just fell short of its pedigree. I'm sure action fans would have loved it more if it wasn't a DMC game, but I digress.

Itsuno was quite hands-on with DmC, and as he says in the interview, he went to Cambridge every two months minimum during its production - and that's not going there for a day, that's like going for a week or two or more every two months for the better part of three years. He was really deeply involved, as was a good group of Osaka staff - which is why he feels so closely to it, probably.

This interview is mine, btw, and I spent a chunk of last week with the DMC5 guys, playing the latest build, etc etc. If one thing is absolutely clear to me from spending a little time with them, it's that the respect and even love for DmC is real.

The thing I'd like them see them do (and I said this to them) is eventually find a mind-bending way to bring the two continuities together, tbh. I'm sure it'd be very silly, but DMC already is.

What I want for DMC is a sort of Avengers style expansion of the universe to include more characters of comparable power levels to Dante (but not more than, cause Dante is maybe too powerful now) and then getting to tell more interesting types of stories with that.

I think if V is any indication then this is what they are trying to go for.

When people are like "oh I want Vergil to be redeemed and set up in the DMC shop with Nero and Dante" that just sounds boring to me personally and restricts the types of new things they could be doing. It's a bit incestual having it all be the same characters all the time and everyone being related to each other.

The idea of parallel universes overlapping with DmC is interesting too but so long as it doesn't go all stupid and Kingdom Hearts with it.

What was their response to this? (Assuming you asked and you're ok with sharing).

Good interview btw!

I just said it'd be cool, that's all. It wasn't a part of the serious interview chat, it was just shooting the shit; I was just explaining to them I really like both strands of DMC. A full, uncut Q&A format version of the interview should be going up very soon, btw.

DmC2 helmed by Itsuno will be something to behold... he might fix the 1st game biggest problems (combat and boss battle)

Getting on stage and saying stuff like "DMC IS BACK"

ummm nah bruh, I have nothing on DmC since the OG is back. But saying stuff like these in front of the audience and camera...nope

I think they made the right choice in continuing the original series. DmC's story hardly left any interesting plot threads dangling and the characters are more or less the same anyway, with the big difference being that DmC doesn't embrace how ridiculous and lame it is. "Fixing" DmC would just result in DMC with better looking environments and that's what DMC5 is

I really want a DmC 2..... :(

Heck before I found out that DMC V actually continues the story after 2 instead of being before it like 3 and 4 were I really didn't have much of an interest in V.

Same.

DmC was great. People who can't even acknowledge hes actually being sincere about liking it and have to come up with some nonsense reason about why hes paying lip service are honestly hilarious

Well then we can all be thankful that NT's circumstances and the market pushed him the right way.

Who needs a trashy knockoff when you can have the real thing?
That's what I don't get. Fuck the what-ifs, the spinoff sucked only having very few good qualities. We wouldn't be having these discussions ad-nauseum if it actually were a great game.
To act otherwise is being fucking blind.

Delusional. Shit reminds me of Zack Snyder fans.

Well we would really appreciate it if you bring DmC:DE to PC first before making 2, please?

That is truly baffling, especially as PC got the definitive edition of 4...

Had to settle on regular edition of DmC as a result when I finally played through it recently, god those colour coded enemies D: Tell you what though, it holds up a treat at higher resolutions

How are so many people oblivious to Itsuno working on DmC? Itsuno was also who said the infamous "The feel of 60fps." quote. I guess it's easy to just pretend it was all NT and throw them under the bus cause they didn't like the game.

Yeah, I can see the DmC influences in DMC5, so I can certainly see that he liked DmC.

I would have taken both games. I really like the idea of alternating between the two series.

Yeah, I meant him being the actual director of the game, I assume he was busy with Dark Arisen at that time.

Sorry, but the noise around DmC and the 'fan' bullshit is absolutely disgusting. I get it. You didn't like DMC.

Bullshit. If people didn't think DmC was a great game in it's own right, you wouldn't have the fans of said game defending it against the people like you who can't accept the fact that people DID enjoy the game.

Jesus fucking Christ. It's been 5 years. You're getting the sequel you want and that's great, I'm hyped for it too. But this nonsense that people who liked the game are for some reason "not true DMC fans", or some other nonsense that you spew was old 5 years ago, and it's old now. Move the fuck on and let people enjoy the things they like.

Ah yes, take that one part of my reply, good stuff. Go ahead and stay in your bubble.
But that's what most of it amounted to, framed as if I'm on some elitist streak.
Come on, mate..I'd have fucked off long ago if not for the constant "DmC haters hate the game because of x and y""The new game has tons of influence from DmC" bullshit and other such nonsense.

So DMC with a capital M is the OG series and DmC with the lowercase m is for the "reboot"?

I see some aesthetic similarities (not a ton, really), but I don't see the angel/demon duality system nor dodge-happy hi-jinx in the combat nor weapon selection.

DmC fans don't really care about gameplay substance anyway, so let them pretend it's a spiritual sequel to their favorite DMC game. Especially if it makes their purchase easier.

I was hoping to get a sequel to DmC or DMC4. I'm happy this franchise is getting another run regardless of universe.

Why not do DmC2 after DMCV then? I wouldn't be into it but if there's interest, Itsuno in the producer seat to secure resources.

I mean, I found the gameplay to be quite substantial and satisfying, particularly with the definitive edition and Bloody Palace. Is that proof enough?

Not what I said. I'm talking about reimplementation of gameplay systems, which is objectively quantifiable. Not whether individuals found the gameplay "substantial," which is subjective.
