As I'm parsing through the big news of the day regarding Sony and console to console cross play, it got me wondering if the focus is going to now shift to Microsoft's current position of requiring Xbox live Gold for free 2 play games like Fortnite.

With Sony and Nintendo not requiring a paid online service, it leaves Microsoft as the only console that has this restriction.

So now when you see each manufacture with their fortnite bundles this year, it quickly moves to Microsoft that has one more cost to play the game than the other two

It's also fascinating how Nintendo is serving as the tie breaker in these feature gaps between Sony and Microsoft.

I wonder if they announce a change at their upcoming Nov conference.

Thoughts?

I read the some people who said "no crossplay is anti-consumer" saying "It is EPIC's fault, they knew that MS requires Live Gold for F2P" and that made 0 sense to me

If you ask me, it's a matter of when not if. It is kind of detrimental to how they want their ecosystem, especially since PC MP is already free. They'll use Gold for other things (the usual and more early access), or just make it Game Pass Gold.

I mean the rabid fans tht cared so much about cross play and its non consumer stance should also care about f2p games needing gold to play. But of course goal posts will be moved. After Microsoft faltering in there reveal and PS4 taking all the shine fans were clamoring to find ammunition to go at Sony hence the fervor of cross play but not caring about Microsoft charging to play f2p games which if thy didn't would also boost player count in those games. The hypocrisy is insane.
