aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabsoloootly

I'm at work 5 days out of the week which means i'm dumping ~40 hours into work and I'm on forums for the most part in between tasks.

Weekdays:
6-8 hours go to sleeping
8 hours go to work
2-3 hours go to commute

that's ~19 hours of the day gone. which leaves about 5 hours in the work day for everything else, most of which is NOT gaming.

Weekends:
7-10 hours go to sleeping
5-6 hours go do chores/get food/take care of actual things

that's about ~16 hours of the day gone. which leaves about 8 hours in the day off to do whatever, most of which is gaming.

So even if I were to dump all my free time into gaming only, i'd be putting roughly 41 hours into it a week, give or take a couple hours here and there.

I do play whatever I can whenever I can, but I definitely spend more time talking about games than playing them.

Depends - when playing a game I tend to only do that. I miss episodes of Youtube series and streams etc. Wake up at the end and try and figure out what is going on. When not playing though, when nothing has grabbed me, then yes I lurk on here and Reddit like a motherfucker. Have youtube vids or twitch streams going. So can't really answer the poll. Both are exclusive to me. If playing I am not online. If not playing I am online.

Probably, yeah. I lurk on Era and gaming subreddits a lot throughout the day, and I usually only play about two or so hours late in the evening.

Play probably. I spend my free time during work between ERA and texting friends. My remaining gaming focused free time I spend either playing a single player game or multiplayer with my firends where I spend the bulk of of gaming talk woth firends.

I spend more time reading threads talking about whether I read up on games more then I play them more than I play those games.

100% yes.

Sucks too cause I have a backlog of almost 400 games but when I get home after an 8 hour day most of the time I'm just too lazy to boot something up and just browse YouTube all night.

Depends on what kind of week I'm having. If work is a slog, I'll usually put some streams on in the background while I catch up at home, occasionally pulling up Era and other sites for a short break.

If I'm on pace at work, though, I won't go anywhere near Era and I'll just dive into whatever is next on the game docket.

Nope. I spend much more time playing than on forums or watching streams although I can spend hours doing those too.

Yea because I play mostly single player games outside of fortnite. And when I'm done I almost never replay them.

So I would say most of my time is spent in game anticipation mode here on Era while I'm at work.

It depends on if I am playing a 80+ hour RPG or not. Then I'm playing a game more than discussing/reading/watching about them. But for all the times I am not playing a lengthy RPG, then I'm watching/discussing more than actually playing.

I can discuss games while pooping, while not at my desktop, intermittently while doing other tasks. At those times it's either discussing or playing Switch. I choose to discuss.

During my truly free time I play games more than discuss.

Yes, i have a high interest in the gaming industry and games as a media but my budget for games is pretty slim so i watch streams and read a lot of discusion about games since it is free and wides my gaming knowledge even tho i'm aware it is not the same watching someone play than playing it yourself

I literally wanted to make this exact thread for a while now. I definitely spend way more time discussing games that playing and my backlog terrifies me. Despite it all I still buy games. Honestly, often times, I have said fuck it and simply started claiming myself to be a "Collector".

Definitely spend more time discussing or reading about games than playing. I've got maybe 45 minutes during the work week to play, compared to basically a whole work shift to browse ERA.

I don't watch any streams and when I actually have the time to sit down and play you can bet I'm not wasting it on resetera.
I can check Era at any other time of the day, but I don't post much due to lack of time, usually check in for news and the handful of communities I post in.

This thread is super disheartening to me. I definitely play more than anything. I have certain games I play while watching podcasts and sometimes I'll watch EZA streams (mostly group streams or Kyle playing whatever old thing). I read Era at work/bed/the bathroom.

I guess it's good that people can enjoy their hobby however they please but it's weird to me that people spend more time with games-adjacent things than they do with actual games.

Not that I don't spend a decent amount of time gaming, but browsing websites is definitely still a bigger part of my day to day life. Browse at work, at home, on the train, etc.

Most of the time I spend more time on Era than playing games but I've been on vacation in the last two weeks so I'm all in Destiny 2

only in the sense that most of my era time is down time at work, and i spend more time at work than playing videogames.

I barely play anything except for WoW.. and even that bores me to tears now. I still enjoy reading about games though, but I'm not big on streamers unless it's Giant Bomb.

O spend a bit too much reading comments on games, which I think I shouldn't since these communities tend to be very elitist or just very negative.
I don't like streams but I do love to watch well made YouTube videos and watch many while I work. If this counts, then definitely spend more time on this than playing!

I certainly do and I made it my goal this year to change it. My problem was that i'd bounce around games and give up before they had a chance to leave a proper impression. Now I don't start a new game until I've finished my current one and I've been much happier because of it.

I've also saved a considerable amount of money as I've accepted that I don't need to play everything, just what appeals to me. This has included a bunch of retro titles that I neglected.

I spend about an equal amount of time on both (if lurking and not actively posting counts)

I never really had the problem of posting more than playing, it's way more like I come here or watch gameplay when I can't play games at a given moment

No. I never watch streams, and I'm more active here when I'm at work. When I'm home and I have free time, I usually play.

Depends on what is out. Sometimes I get really hot or cold with one or the other. I can go like 4-5 days without getting the itch to post on here and I can do the same with a game. I expect in the fall to be posting less than I did this summer because of how much stuff is coming out.

I've cut down on my stream and YouTube game watching big time compared to a couple of years ago. Personalities have gotten worse and it gets repetitive. Still use them for background noise when I'm working or bored.

I used to by a factor of about 4:1. Then I found Destiny LOL. And put oh I dunno, 3,500 hours into that the last 4 years. Officially via time wasted on destiny.com, I have about 2000 hours in D1 and 500 hours in D2. However that site doesn't count tower or orbit time, a fair amount of which is active gameplay, so my guess is about another 1000 hours needs to be added to get the true total.

I used to be more interested in the graphics tech and discussing business strategy aspects of gaming than actually gaming, although of course I did play games. Played a decent amount of SF2 growing up, loved Gears 1 campaign, and sampled quite a lot of other stuff in the past (loved Half Life 1, Unreal Tournament 1, ahh the golden age of PC, I'm really old) . Final Fantasy 1 NES, etc.

Now I have more of a problem with the fact that post Destiny, it's hard for single player campaigns to hold my interest anymore. They just feels so unimportant (if you get stuff, who cares if noone can see that you got it!) and lifeless.

I think doing hobby-adjacent thing more than actually doing the hobby is pretty normal. And the more hard to access the hobby is, the more the ratio would skew. It's not like once can go scuba diving every day, for example.

Playing games. I only discuss games though out of the other choice, I don't watch streamers or gameplay or anything like that.

Yes. This is because it's much easier with my work schedule to look at my phone for a minute than to set aside a time at home to play games.

I also tend to spend my free time doing other things besides video games these days.
