https://nintendoeverything.com/nint...on-downloads-about-25-of-switch-install-base/

It's been one week since Nintendo officially launched the online play component for its hit Switch console, the eponymous Nintendo Switch Online, on September 18. Now the latest Sensor Tower Store Intelligence figures reveal that the service's requisite mobile companion app has been installed by more than five million iOS and Android users worldwide to date, or about one quarter of the Switch's global install base of 20 million as of June 30.

Not surprisingly, Japan and the United States have driven the majority of Nintendo Switch Online companion app installs at 33 and 30 percent of the total, respectively. Breaking that down to the device level, about 60 percent of users obtained the app through Google Play, while the remaining 40 percent downloaded it from the App Store.

See more in the link.

They will reach close to 50% of the install base easily.

Edit: isn't this misleading? Mobile app installs != subscribers.
Title is missing app.

That's not the paid service though. People were downloading that app before the paid service came out.

mobile app downloads and subscribes to online are not even remotely the same thing?

Very misleading. A good chunk of those are from people who played Splatoon 2 pre-subscription, and a lot probably decided not to continue playing when it became paid. There are a few in my friends list who simply moved on to F2P titles like Fortnite and Paladins.

That includes the number of downloads before the launch of the online service? If so then it means nothing.

Anyone can DL the app. DL it and realize they can't use it for anything and then delete it if they don't have the service.

I got the app back when it launched and am not subscribed to NSO. This statistic is useless.

EDIT: Title changed.

Wow what a misleading title, came in here thinking Nintendo hit it out the park.

Sometimes it's better to read than just be the first to post.

If this were the subs service, it would've been insane. 1 week and 5 million subscribers would be huge.

But, alas, it's the shitty app.

You can't accurately make this claim at all.

+1 to the "bought the sub, not using the app" team.

I don't even hate it, I just have no interest in using it.

I have the app and have only used it twice, the most recent being to experiment with voice chat in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Works well for what it does, but not something I expect to open frequently in the foreseeable future.

I seriously doubt that. The app is free and has been around for a while. The sub is $20 and has been around for a week.

Going to need some receipts on that.

Free vs $20... going to go with free until proven otherwise.
eh I guess? But there's reasons to own the online service without using the app. There aren't any reasons to own the app without the online service though. Not to mention it's hated.

Just counting the mobile app is pointless. Even I have that on my phone and I've never used it. Honestly don't know why I bothered lol.

I wonder how many of those people are like me and opened it once and went "oh.... okay?" and then never opened it again.
