(PS4) Fortnite cross-play open beta now live, Sony looking into support for other games

Im also curious if Epic will go the extra step and allow people to merge accounts, for those who have both ps4 and xbox/switch accounts with progress and vbucks. Seems like a lot of work but would def make the fanbase happy

See, all the bitching and complaining finally worked. I can finally try out Fortnite on my Switch. Now I've learned my lesson and won't play any other game like this on PS4 until this policy is applied across the board.

Has it. It still won't let me use my Xbox. I tried unlinking, but the website says to try later since they're getting too many requests.
I already had that before this update. All my accounts have been linked for ages.
But when I went to play on PS4, it stopped me.
It's easy to see why they would allow fortnite since it's the biggest game of the moment and already available everywhere. Will be nice to them to allow for FFXIV as well.

Yeah it was a really smart move to not have a workaround and being litteral with account lock. Epic did a great work to force Sony to change its policy.

I mean this is great news but absolutely hilarious dancing around the point trying to make themselves appear as good guys now. The truth is Sony fucked up and chose to be the outlier with God damn Nintendo of all companies not even batting an eyelid to crossplay. Like what, how does that even make sense.
We should never have had this fight to begin with as it's clear as day that closed platform mindset is dead. Games need open crossplay to survive with such huge budgets and investments that saying no means having games cut out social sections just because a company doesn't want to "share" their numbers. They aren't losing anything by doing so, no one is going to suddenly leave PS4 because I can now play fortnite on Switch with my actual paid content (they was paid on PC).

I'm glad they're evidently still listening to players, even when it's not necessarily materially impacting their bottom line. It's good for them to stay on their toes coming out of one generation into the next.
Whilst to many this is a 'finally' issue, to me this seems pretty fast, at least faster than I expected. It seems like this as a higher profile 'issue' is less than a year old? And I didn't expect Sony to make any major business policy changes before a new generation arrived. They usually reserve big changes to issues of business policy for new generations after a lot of researching and planning...so the turnaround on this seems pretty fast taken in that light.

I wasn't one of the ones fighting for cross play because I understood why Sony was doing it. They wanted your Xbox friends to buy a Playstation if they want to play with you. They're leaving money on the table by letting you play with them on other systems without buying a Playstation.

Thats great news but I still need to set my Warframe account free from Sony. That was my greatest sin using Sony platform.
