I think it will separate mainline Mario music into one category and spinoff music into another. I could be wrong though but they for sure showed 2 separate mushrooms for Mario music during the August direct that I'm too lazy to screenshot
In the Smash 4 music updates Mario got 2 songs, one from a mainline game and one from a spin-off.
In the Smash Ultimate music test, there are 2 separate sections for Mario songs, presumably dividing up the music the same way.
I mean, Vesperia was out for a good while before that interview, so I don't think Sakurai's opinion will have changed that much since 2016.
They played it both times they showed Geno during the Final Smash Direct. If he gets in, I am 1000% sure that it will play in his reveal trailer.
Pokémon music was posted on the blog therefore either 1. killing the music theory (likely) 2. confirming no new Pokémon rep in coming to Smash Ultimate (less likely).
I dunno about that. Lloyd has long been the most in contention because his game was a Gamecube exclusive, so Nintendo fans are most familiar with him. But Project X Zone 2 released right when the project plan for Smash Ultimate was being completed, perfect timing in fact. And since that interview, obviously Namco has been developing ToV: DE, including the Switch version. It's safe to say that both the Smash dev team in general and Sakurai was aware that this game was in development and including Yuri could be strong for cross-marketing. It's also pretty possible that once it actually comes out the more casual Tales of Nintendo fans will like Yuri just as much, if not more than Lloyd... just like most Tales fans already.
Ultimately I see Yuri as, at minimum, a contender vs Lloyd, and in the long run the absolute pick.
I have to admit that I don't really know much about the Tales series so I can't really argue this, so i'll take your word for it. I still have a feeling that Sakurai would go for Lloyd (which may be a bit naive) but who knows.
Does the castlevania collection prove vergeben right because it exists or disprove him because it's not on the Switch?

I'm not too hot on Incineroar and I never believed he is a lock, but I don't think this changes anything. He still has a chance.
Also the champion music is pretty awesome.

Interesting that we got Pokemon music. I also find weird that we didn't get a second update today. Wednesdays always had a second update except the direct day.
I don't know if we've been talking about this among all the music theory panicking but the latest Sakurai column emphasizes that we should expect the reveals to slow down a bit from now on.

It's funny that people beleive that they'd arbitrarily leave characters off of the special edition box to prevent leaks or let a random intern design a package for Amazon that they're gonna change completely later but not that they might post music from a series as big as Pokemon before revealing a newcomer later on.

Neither are likely. The only reason people doubted Box Theory in the first place was because if you believed Vergeben there was no room for Shadow, a hard lock.

The way I see it, we're a bit over two months until the game releases, which is us crossing the halfway point from official E3 reveal to release date. Previously, that same time frame has yielded 5 newcomers up until this point; 9 if you count echoes.
With Sakurai's wording I figure the logic is predominantly to just temper the expectations that we'll see a similar increase in volume for the time we have left. That doesn't outright deconfirm the box theory, but I think it does lend a degree of credence that one newcomer and one echo isn't all that we have left given the time remaining up until release. Two more newcomers seems like a fairly reasonable estimate. If we're to assume that Vergeben's rumor is correct, I think that falls in line with Sakurai's own comment. Two more newcomers for the remaining two months and a half makes sense, and would be a more modest decrease from when we basically got 8 characters in a similar timeframe previously.
Box theory looks likely, if it's wrong I expect at max the total newcomer and echo count can't be higher then 3-4.
Whoops, i'm getting scared that my predictions are a bit off now. I guess i'll revert all the way back to my E3 prediction of 7 unique newcomers (so two more) just to be super safe. Don't ask me who those characters would be though. At this point I have no idea what to really expect.

Eh, I don't think Sakurai saying they're gonna slow down is an indication that the box theory is correct.
If we take out Inklings and start from when Smash was fully unveiled in June, we had four original character reveals and four echo reveals in about three months. We have about two and a half months until release. Only one more original character and one more echo would be a hell of a lot less reveals than just slowing down. I'm still expecting another character or two and at least a couple echoes.

The maximum I can see us getting now is 3 more unique. If there's an October reveal I imagine it will happen either next week or the week after. If not then 2 unique left both at the November direct.
