Here's a question: ResetEra is a pretty awkward name, but I generally like the "Era" part. It's the "Reset" part that's a bit weird (both with that hard T in the middle splitting up the word, and the fact that it's reference to GAF).

So, what would be a potential alternate name for the site? Like, in the format of [something]Era.

Pretty sneaky posting this while Britain is was asleep; so there was nobody to point out that both "reset" and "era" are words that Americans pronounce weird anyway.

I don't say the name out loud much but when I say it in my head it's kind of like RuhSETtruh. You give me that many vowels and rs at the end of a word it's going to come out weird.

The problem is that "ERA" has no meaning. Mind control 101: you always want people to understand something. The human brain works in a way that when you understand something, you get a positive stimulation. You will always connect the name with this positive stimulation. GAF stands for Gaming Age Forums. That is a fairly easy to understand, but it is extremely effective. "resetera" has no deeper meaning at all. Especially the "ERA" part. It is a "in your face" name which makes it boring for the human mind.

I refuse to accept this when "Google" is one of the biggest companies on the planet.

I just say Era most of the time, but I pronounce the full name as two words.

Ree-set-uh-ruh makes sense to me too, but reh-set-uh-ruh sounds strange to my ear. i get that it's closer to the pronunciation of etcetera, but the lack of an initial T sound throws it off for me.

When you know the context of the site's founding, the name makes perfect sense. It's pressing the Reset button on NeoGAF, and beginning a new Era.

But newcomers may not know this. So it works better as just a play on Et Cetera.

It's 2 words. Reset and Era.

The unwashed masses probably want to smush it together to form one word for convenience. But this isn't a text message or a Tweet. It's a forum name. Show some fucking respect.

I mean I've never said it out loud and don't see why I ever would, but it is literally written as two words in the logo, so why wouldn't I pronounce it as such.

I don't think much about how to say the name of this place bc I don't envision ever needing to say it out loud. No one would know what I was even talking about regardless of pronunciation.

Resetera is the future tense of francisized verb to reset, hence pronouced with the french accent "rayzet'rah"

Working on that also.
I say resetera like etcetera because saying Reset Era just doesn't work as a name. I thought this back when the place first started and I said Reset Era all the time. Felt like I was tripping over a period every single time I said it. Me and my brother talk about this place all the time and constantly saying Reset Era felt so unnatural. Then I heard some people say "Resetera" like etcetera and god it just works better.

"Reset Era."

These forums were basically founded as a reset to a new era in gaming forums.
