So officially BP grossed more domestically than IW. A good 20+ million more according to bomojo.

Is this new news to anyone?

Going to cross post this here.

Of the 5 movies on that list that had YT trailer views over 100m only 1 opened under $100M and that was JL. Let's give Venom the same multiplier as JL. So that would be 133.516 x 0.874 which would give us 116.692984. Sony would be very very happy with a $117M OW for Venom.
Venom will probably make around that at least for the OW, regardless of reviews I think. Good reviews might push it to 130M OW with a decent second weekend of 70M. I am thinking it could break 300M domestically.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/h...-perlman-joining-monster-hunter-movie-1146178

Paul W.S. Anderson, the writer-director behind the video game adaptation franchise Resident Evil, which also starred Jovovich, his wife, is sitting behind the camera and the keyboard.

The game's premise involves players taking on characters who track and kill monsters, leveling up with weapons and gear. The plot for the feature project is unclear, but it is known that Jovovich is playing a character named Artemis.

Harris is playing Link, a sniper, while Perlman will play a man named Admiral, the leader of the Hunter's Crew.

The project, in the $60 million range, is set to begin shooting next month in South Africa.

Uh, ok...

Because there has been a lot of weakly sourced speculation about SPE, here's the most official take we've gotten on its future from the new CEO:
Kenichiro Yoshida To SPE Leaders: Studio Will Remain Big Part Of Sony Portfolio
Sony Corp President and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida paid a visit to the Sony Pictures Entertainment lot today to meet with 75 senior leaders and managers from across the company and give more execs a chance to personally meet the chief. In a meeting that lasted around an hour after Yoshida was introduced by Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Vinciquerra, his most important gesture was to give a vote of confidence on Japan's long term commitment to the movie and TV businesses.
(emphasis mine)
After providing general observations on the current entertainment landscape and the rise of tech companies and the recent studio mergers, he said that Sony Corp's commitment to the entertainment business remains strong. Yoshida reminded the crowd that SPE has been in the Sony family since 1989, and that it would continue to remain an important part of Sony's Entertainment portfolio. That is significant, given the current merger frenzy and some recent streamlining.

So really really LTTP but I finally got around to watching Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

I know this is going to be a controversial opinion but.....I really enjoyed it? I thought it was significantly better than the original Jurassic World honestly

Kinda ridiculous that the villains are excited about selling a stolen dinosaur for up to $20m, in a $1.3b movie.

Forget selling them to the highest bidder. Get them on a movie set.

Slayven you need to post with a better connection so that I don't have to see your deleted dupe posts littering up my thread!

I wish we could remove those from our sight too sometimes.

Anyone else going to see Venom for the purpose of marveling at a $100 million disaster?

The fact that this exists at all is amazing to me

Man, feel like my Corman joke sailed straight over some heads. I mean, it was bad, but obvious joke is obvious.
I love Corman's Black Scorpion.

Yeah I rented it tonight not expecting all that much. I thought the last Jurassic World was ok, not great besides the 3rd act. Would probably give that one a C+

But yeah I watched Fallen Kingdom tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is actually some really nice shots / cinematography in it. The characters are still shallow and the plot isnt exactly anything to write home about but I found the overall action set pieces and dino stuff a good time.

A solid B in my book and I'm actually looking forward to the 3rd one quite a bit now.
