To be honest what I managed to do during qualifying and the first lap or so of the race the car felt decidedly different to what I experienced when I did my test run.

How can I get the same racing conditions without resorting to an online lobby?

I'm not sure how it'd be different apart from starting with a full tank of fuel in the sim and only half a tank in the race. The only way to replicate it is to do a lobby with someone else in so you can start a race, even the qualifying you start with a full tank.

I'm getting the impression that the hard tyres are going to be what most people use most of the time, which is why we didn't use them in the first 2 seasons - there just doesn't seem to be enough of an improvement on the softer compounds to justify the increased wear. Still it'll help the cars which are hard on their tyres be competitive so it isn't necessarily a bad thing.

So it's not happening tonight then?

I see 5 friends online but none seem to be in a lobby when I look.

I didn't know there was a PSN group.

I got the Friend invite after the race.

I assumed everyone was in it already, had no idea you weren't, especially considering you've been part of this from the start! Trolley just sent out invites to everyone in the group so that's why you would have been missed :/

Sorry you missed it man, like I said in the group I'll give you double qualifying points from your qualifying result last week.

Damn it sucks for cooldawn, Gvon and JamboGT - Hopefully the next one will run smoother. Hey GHG would you consider changing the system to only count your best 4 or 5 results to give these guys a chance to get back in the fight?

So my race was like this...

Qualified 3rd (just - Gvon was ahead of me before I got my quickest lap in and I didn't beat him by much) - had a great start (thanks TC :-) and had made up a few places by the time we got to the first bend but lost speed through the corner due to the chaos, got passed by GHG on the straight and then we both got boxed in at the hairpin and CLR_CMOS shot past. KdotIX slid off into the gravel from 2nd and I managed to follow GHG around the outside of Sejanoz on the penultimate bend (heart in mouth time) and CLR, GHG and I began to break away. GHG reeled CLR in (who was on hard tyres and short shifting!) and passed him at the hairpin and opened up a 2 second gap before I got past CLR at turn 3 the lap after. The gap stayed about the 2 second mark until lap 7 when GHG pitted and I led until the lap after when I pitted and CLR went on to pit on lap 9. When we got the pit stops out the way CLR had managed to jump back ahead of me in 2nd place and GHG was about 3 seconds ahead of him. I really struggled with understeer on the hard tyres and both GHG and CLR pulled away, with CLR passing GHG on lap 17. This slowed them both up a bit and I got excited as I got the gap back down to under 2 seconds... then I missed my braking marker as I was looking at time and stuck it in the kitty litter on turn 3, the worse bloody place to go off. Got it back on track 17 seconds behind and set about trying to close the gap again but to no avail on the hard tyres. GHG stopped for his final set of hard tyres on lap 22, CLR for mediums on lap 23 and I went for softs on lap 24. I came out the pits 16.5 seconds behind GHG and really started to reduce the gap due to my tyre advantage. I noticed the gap to CLR dropping too after his mediums started to wear, it was never going to be enough but it gave me hope for the future that I've got a chance if I can keep it on track - finally crossed the line in 3rd place, 12 seconds behind GHG and 18 seconds behind CLR.

Here's a highlight vid showing the action of the race rather than just my in game footage.

I was gutted how my race went lol. Started poor as the car just span up off the line and lost a few places. Tried to just settle in for a lap and then made a couple of moves before passing a few cars.
Rears span up in 3 and dropped the bugger. I was annoyed but still felt OK with my strategy.
That was until I hit the brakes for the first corner and my wheel stopped responding and went full throttle into the wall lol. Couldnt reset it so had to drop out.

Won't be in for this weekends race and probably out of the following one.

No the dates in the OP are incorrect as all races have been pushed back a week (I will update the OP soon). This is tomorrows race:

But yes, get involved if you can, a couple of the regulars wont be able to make it this week.

Yeh the Saint Croix configuration we are running next week is a great track, I think a lot of people will be pleasantly surprised :)
I'd never done St Croix before, last night I let my kids do time trials around it competing against each other on the configuration were doing. I like really like it!

Just did a non bop GR3 race and the viper is like a gr2 car, tremendous fun! Has anyone ever looked into whether the gr3s are wildly uncompetitive un-BOPed?

Yep they all vary wildly without BOP applied. The Renault RS01 is a one make car with tremendous amounts of aero grip (it also drives similarly to a DTM/Super GT car without BOP), the Viper and 911 are GTLM cars so again, they are a notch above your standard GT3 and then there are all the fantasy and historic cars (Ford GT) in the mix.

In "stock" form GT3 cars from the various manufacturers would all set a wide range of lap times but BOP is enforced by the FIA for all the various GT3 series. The only inconsistency is that in real life BOP is applied on a per-circuit basis.

Ah man, I'm gutted, that was probably the best race I've ever had with you guys, I'd even pulled out a quali lap that was 2s faster than I'd managed all day, but then my final pit ruined it! Managed to keep pace with a few people in the top half, didn't cause any accidents, then on my final pit stop it kicked me out after only 2 laps of fuel, when I'd been planning for 7 I think. Had to pit again, Kdot finished 10s ahead of me, accounting for tyre wear we could have had a fun battle at the end :(

moley moley moley When I saw you coming out the pits I thought it would be a fun final stint. We were pretty even in the first few laps together, about a second separating us. Then I don't know what happened but I lost you on the hairpin. I just heard some tire squeal and then noticed you fell about 3 seconds behind. I hope I didn't cut you up or anything because I was fiddling about with my MFD to look at how many laps of fuel I had left and I didn't have the radar up. Really interesting race though - had a lot of fun trying to recover from the bottom! Good battles with Fifanutz too!

Haha, that would be lap 25ish? You were warping on my screen for some reason, so I was being incredibly cautious into that hairpin, took it wide, the all of a sudden you warped onto my nose and I binned it, I felt really guilty until I saw you warp away and carry on fine :D

Some thoughts on last nights race...

Qualifying in 5th wasn't so great, joining late meant I was doing qualifying on my starting setup of mediums on the front and softs on the rear - I was trying to burn off the fuel but left it too late to go onto all softs. Still at least I was clear of the first lap carnage :-)

Despite seeing how the short pitlane / pitstop affected our trial run race on wednesday I still underestimated just how effective it was until I saw CLR_CMOS pull off a 2nd stop and come out ahead of me when I'd only done 1 stop.
On wednesday I'd gone for a 1 stop race and Sejanoz and I were very close all race and I was 4 seconds behind when he pitted around lap 24, but he came out again only 7 seconds behind on a new set of soft tyres and went on to beat me by 5 seconds.
Last night I'd decided to go for the same strategy that Sejanoz had used so effectively in the previous race (1st stop around lap 6 then a long run until lap 24 then back onto softs for a sprint to the line) but seeing CLR_CMOS exit the pit I decided to change - I was on hard tyres that were about 7 laps old at this point and was lapping around 1:41, CLR would be at least 2 seconds a lap quicker and my tyres were only going to get worse. I knew I could manage 6 laps on soft tyres before burning our the fronts so stayed on my hards until lap 18 then changed to do 2 x 6 lap soft tyre runs to the end - I'd been holding up Sejanoz for the entire middle stint but switching strategy made a huge difference and I finished 12 seconds ahead of him.

I watched the replay whilst waiting for the F1 to turn up on All4 - BradleyLove made his long runs work on hard tyres which was like the opposite of what he talked about in the chat :-) 5th to 9th place was so close and it was really hard to tell who was going to prevail, GHG after his nightmare start had to pass everyone then pit and do it all over again! moley moley moley was quick and consistent in his BMW, I thought he was going to catch Bradley at one point but the strategy / pitstop let him down.

Not a great turnout, Jambo and Gvon we knew about but no cooldawn, RounD, guiameijide or Metalmurphy was disappointing.

I did some more testing Sunday daytime and whilst originally I considered going Softs every 5 or 6 laps, I forgot to factor in refuelling times. So in the end I found the Hards to work best. I was averaging 1:42ish a lap I think, maybe 1:43 on the Hards. The Softs would give me 3 laps at 1:41ish before dropping to 1:43 for the final 2/3 laps.

The vast majority of the race I was on my own comfortably ahead of moley moley moley (24 secs at one point). I was short-shifting for most of the race, but after my final stop I realised I may have under-fuelled so started really short-shifting. At which point I then realised GHG was on a charge. With about 8 minutes to go GHG was gaining at least a second a lap.

I had about 1.7 laps of fuel when I started what I thought was the penultimate lap so panic set in, and I was desperately trying to conserve fuel. I figured I'd leave it til the final lap before changing fuel usage. I was on the home straight with GHG .3 seconds behind me when I crossed the finish line and the race ended. I had .7 laps of fuel left so my relief was total. Not sure what happened but I'm convinced I didn't get a "final lap" indicator until just before the finish line so was expecting another lap?

First race I finished .5 behind Oghuz and .5 ahead of RounD . This time I finished .3 ahead of GHG .

It's amazing it can be that close after 50 minutes of racing. I'm loving this new endurance format.

On a personal note I'm well chuffed to have dragged the Gr4 Viper to 4th. It's so heavy on tyres it's unreal, so Hard was the only option for me. I genuinely was expecting to finish towards the back of field.

Yeah that middle stint was really enjoyable DHC, we stayed within .800 from each other for like 10 laps! When we met Trolley out of the pits at one point I couldn't see him anymore in the radar or rear view mirror and got distracted, then lost my momentum (but I reckon the tyres were also starting to wear out). By lap 20 I realized I couldn't catch you anymore, so I went back for Softs and at least I got fastest lap lol.
Great race, but yeah a bit bummed we didn't have a full grid this time either.

Very well done to CLR, I gave 100% during quali and race but he's just on another level!

Strangely enough, with what happened at the start of the race I really enjoyed last nights race. Maybe I'm a masocist :)

After going into Fifanutz after he stalled on the grid, every part of my car that could have damage did have damage because someone also went into the back of me amid the chaos. It felt like an eternity having to limp round a whole lap at a snails pace.

By the time I entered the pits I think I was 30s off the leader and then when I came out I was almost a minute down. Decided that the only way I wasn't going to finish last was to change strategy. So I took the hard tires and filled up before the damage repair began effectively enabling a single stop strategy with 2 long stints. I calculated that because everyone else would still need to do 2/3 stops I would have a chance of fighting back if I was able to be consistent. So after being really pissed off initially I got my head down and started grinding out the laps at a consistent pace of 40s and low 41s while trying to take care of the tires as much as possible due to how long I was having to run on them.

By the mid point of the race approaching my first pit stop I had caught up to the pack and somehow managed to safely navigate my way to 5th. ogo.on.the.go almost took me out just before he quit and AbandonedTrolley lost control of his car and missed the front of my car by just a couple of metres as he skidded across the track (I need to find that in the replay, I burst out laughing at the time because of how close it was).

I think I ended up pitting around lap 17 and then had to do it all again. With about 6 or 7 laps to go I was in 5th, about 9 seconds behind BradleyLove but I noticed I was closing in fast so pressed on and if not for a slight mistake by me on the last lap (or if the race was a lap longer) I would have had 4th ;)

Absolutely loving this format. Banning the supersofts, making the races longer and bringing hard tires and damage in have made things really interesting. I think we should stick with this for the foreseeable future :)

Yeah I had far too many offs last nights my concentration right now is nowhere near where it needs to be, I could happily lap in the 1:41 which I know isn't top end pace but should have helped me in the midfield, but I just make too many mistakes, whether that's tiredness or illness I don't know but so many unforced errors mean half the time it's an uphill battle. I mean I started the race last night and was more concentrating on turning off the indicators I messed my braking totally.

I do remember that one though and it was the same place I kept dumping it, the long left hander and I kept touching kerb/grass and hitting a spin.

I think it was the corner before the strange never ending section of right handers towards the end of the lap. It was a bloody close one!

Where can i see the current dates of races and track raced on?

https://www.resetera.com/posts/12244028/

All the dates are 1 week out as we had to abandon the first event due to network issues. This week is St Croix B II.

Edit: Well thats strange - I've just watched the 2 videos above in sync and the VR version below has lots more trackside detail, signs etc than the normal 2D one - the difference is the VR was recorded from my Pro and the 2D version on my OG. I didn't realise there was so much difference with a Pro and surprised it retained the extra detail in VR too.

IIRC billboards and spectators only appear during races, not in time trial. I guess 1v1 is enough to be considered a race.
Haven't raced on St. Croix yet so I can't confirm

Both are in time trial mode (VR got a time trial mode added after launch) but it could just be a setting that doesn't match between the two - I was surprised by how sparse looking the OG recording is.

doh, I forgot about that. Must be something else, just like at Monza sometimes there's a sign where the bridge used to be, and other times there's nothing (even on OG PS4).
Anyway it looks sick in VR! shame I can't handle it

To be fair it's the only Saint Croix layout that is any good!

The paltry track list when the game launched forced me into the habit of also trying out reverse layouts (I never usually like them) so I would have never discovered this track if not for that.

Kaze13 That is seriously quick... Shame you can't make it! Also GHG is great at finding hidden gem tracks lol

I think I can pull another half a second outta my ass but that track will take a full day too get down pat lol.

I do really like that layout. Nice find man! The two squigly sections just has a nice flow to it in my opinion. The last turn (I think with the green infield) is kind of confusing though. Does it allow for cutting there? I didn't cut and stayed inside the line but it sure seemed like it's possible.

Big penalty for cutting there I swear I put one wheel on it and got a 10 sec penalty

Are we ever going to get last season's results, or is the data really messed up?

The data got lost so I need to find some time to do it from scratch again :(

I cancelled my one drive and office 365 subscription and not everything made it out alive somehow. Microsoft were less than helpful and I've since given up. I need to find time to do it all again but to be honest it's not a priority. I'd rather spend my spare time actually... Relaxing.

No worries man, I was just curious.
