I could never go back to 3 on the PS3 after playing it on the PS4! Well, maybe I go back for the plat if I feel like I'm in a trophy mood! But the improves they made to the game make it impossible for me to go back, its so much better now! That's why I'm impatient on 4 and 5, because those will be even better (due to having more content).

Anyway, new Judge Eyes interview:
http://www.siliconera.com/2018/09/2...ppear/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

A few little bits of info on game length. Apparently trophies will be easier (despite them not really being all hard in the last several Yakuza games) but completion is still a 100 hour thing (yay! That's me sorted!). The big gameplay confirmation on this one for me is the fact that you do tackle some lawyer stuff in court. Wasn't sure if you'd just be doing PI work all game. So that's good to know (and something I was wrong about)

Boy howdy a game the length of 0 with one character is gonna be something, he is a big star i guess and they don't hint at a second playable character although i would love to play as Kaito. Those previews look dope and those side case previews are also nuts 30-35 hours to get through the story skipping everything side stuff and up to 80 for side stories. Over 100 for completionists those mini games must have some tournament leagues or something.

I finally started up my copy of Hokuto ga Gotoku, after having imported it day one and then been distracted by other things for like half a year. The incoming Western release has got me feeling like I'd better play it now to get my money's worth from an expensive Japanese import while I can :P

I'm about five hours in and I can't say I'm loving it so far. It's weirdly frontloaded with some menial busywork, which doesn't leave the greatest first impression; you can really feel the lower budget. I'm still being railroaded through main story stuff and haven't been let loose to explore the city on my own yet (I've just got past the section that was used for the PSN demo). The upgrade tree also seems pretty unbalanced so far. I've been able to more than double my attack damage really quickly and I'm basically just wrecking everything, which seems like something that should have been gated so you can't just do it right at the start of the game.

But having said that, it's still good stuff. I'm never going to get tired of the Yakuza formula, and I can't wait until I can get started on some Sub Stories. The framerate is great, and I'm really glad to see they've patched out the original 'hold X to jog' control scheme that I hated in the demo. The combat starts really fun and is only getting better as I make my way through the upgrade tree. There's a lot of influence from Ishin here in the combat rankings and the way the upgrade tree works. The bossfights have been great so far, too; a really nice step up in spectacle from the typical Yakuza one-on-one duels. I'm looking forward to getting deeper into it.

Yup. Beginning is a really slow affair. But the actual combat makes up for it (when you fight that is), and the bosses rock. As for being unbalanced, you need that extra attack power though as bosses 4 and 5 will wreck you otherwise. And don't worry enemies level up every few chapters so you won't be overpowered forever. If your feeling very brave, once you can go down to the southern most end of the map where enemies are level 50-70 and see how you get on ;) A normal mob of enemies like that are no pushover let me tell you ;)

For those of you who would like to see it, here is the Kenshiro Edition (only available in France and Italy) of Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise:

That's a nice special edition though some of those names are still a bit strange to me "Raoh the Ken Oh" is an odd one, as I hear him referred to as either Raoh or Ken Oh but not both at the same time. And I still can't fathom why they spell "Kisana" and "Xsana". How odd...

Very excited for Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, gonna be sweet. And Yakuza Kiwami 2 was terrific. They're riding high.

I'll buy it day 1 but will actually wait a little bit before I can play it. Even Kiwami 2 is currentl on hold (please don't judge me). Dragon Quest XI is just too time conusming, haha... Very much looking forward to Fist of the North Star though!

I'm actually perfectly placed to start a new game at the moment. I've managed to finish Yakuza 3, Spidey, Hollow Knight and Horizon Zero Dawn in the last couple of weeks (not bad going really!) so I really wouldn't complain if Sega wants to announce an October release date for Yakuza 4's remaster in Japan (hint hint). Otherwise I'll wait until Judge Eyes lands in December, I love HGG very much, but there's no way I'm playing it again this year as the last little grind for the plat trophy still haunts my dreams ;) Well that and Capcom is releasing Mega Man 11 the very same day.

I beat Kiwami 2, Spider-Man, and Batman: Arkham Asylum this month. Now playing Arkham City and waiting for Life is Strange 2 tomorrow.

It's weird having anticipated K2 for a year, and then finally getting it and feeling a little odd once you're done with it. Definitely going to keep returning for side content, but the main story, Majima Saga, and most of the substories are done for me... and man, that Majima Saga got me emotional. It was worth the wait.

My emotional investment in the continuity of dumb side-content like the cabaret and returning characters in side-stories probablly ranks higher than re-experiencing old content, not a knock against the main story but i already know what's up with yakuza 2's story.
Meeting the kids from the Pocket Racer mini-game from 0 and seeing them again in kiwami and Kiryu remembering them like good childhood friends put a smile to my face.

Extended version of the Judge Eyes release trailer! Man, the story really is lookin' good. I think they're gonna take us on a hell of a roller-coaster ride with this one.

I'm on chapter 14 of Zero now. I'm still really enjoying it. Though, am I weird for actually liking Kiryu's story? Seems I'm one of the few haha. I'm going to get through some sub stories before I progress any further. I think I'll complete most of them, if not all. Not going for a Platinum though.

I liked both stories, especially the drama between Kiryu and Nishiki.

Remember that you don't have to finish everything before the narrative is over. You get access to Platinum Adventure mode after that which lets you roam around and do stories/games at your leisure.

Plot twist: this is the first scene we see in Shin, and is the direct cause of
the fall of the Tojo Clan and subsequent Omi takeover of Kamurocho.

Thanks, Nugget.

Hey, man, we're pretty much in the same boat here! The only difference is I decided to prioritize Kiwami 2 first (I just beat the final boss yesterday), and enjoyed the heck out of it, but have been itching to jump into DQXI the entire time! I also have Fist of the North Star pre-ordered and will be picking it up day one, but I'm going to put that on the back-burner so I can finally jump into DQXI. I don't think I've ever had (the immense luxury) to put a RGG Studio game aside on day 1 in favor of another title, but here we are. There are just too many damn good games coming out at the same time! Where were you all during summer?!

Made it through the whole climax of Yakuza 0 - the boat brawl, all the boss and mini-boss fights, and then was sitting back to watch the (many, many) ending cutscenes and... my game just suddenly hard-locked screen-to-black, mid-cutscene. Playing on PC. That ending is LONG and the game doesn't autosave. I lost it all. Last save was from 10:45PM and it was 12:15 AM when the thing froze up.

I was so stunned and drained that I couldn't even be mad. I just kinda sat there for a minute, then turned my PC off and went to bed.

The sequence isn't exactly hard - I never got a game over or had to retry any of it - but is is VERY intense, and draining. Both from a narrative and gameplay perspective the intensity is so high that I was just not motivated to go through it again.

I ended up sucking it up and bumping it down to easy + skipping all cutscenes to blast through it again and it wasn't too bad. But man between this and my PS4 breaking near the end of Kiwami and me not having up-to-date cloud saves, I am not having wonderful luck with this series.

At this point I don't plan on chasing 100% CP but I am still having fun, so I'll at least dive back in and finish up Caberet Club + Substories + the minigames I'm actually digging.

Yakuza 5 rocks. You should read my gushing praise about it ;) The issues I have with 5 is that the way you have 5 protags it just makes the story disjointed. But the activities and gameplay are still second to none in the series in my opinion. Once your levelled up a decent amount (especially with Kiryu) the combat is fantastic, this is reflected perfectly in the final battle which is still the best (or joint best with Ishin) in the series for me.

Yeah, the issue with Yakuza 5 is that there's too much Yakuza 5. The actual game has a wealth of great moments and awesome combat, it's just poorly paced and has a couple minor issues.

Playing Yakuza 5 last will probably benefit it, as you can take your time experiencing everything.

Yakuza 5 is a beautiful mess, but I understand why some dislike it. Personally I can't wait till it gets remastered and I can play it at 60FPS.

Yup. 60FPS Yakuza 5 will be amazing. Its actually one of my most wanted games of next year for that alone. I might actually be a bit more hyped for it over Shin RGG (but I'm sure that'll change as it gets closer to release).

If Shin RGG is released in late 2019 (in Japan), (excluding Kiwami 2, as it's a remake) is this the longest gap between mainline titles?

So, I started Kiwami 2 and I played less than 1 hour, but I gotta say. Kamurocho looks stunning. Like OMG, it's beautiful!
Did you play 6? As that was my exact reaction there as well when I imported it. Its quite amazing what the new engine does for looks and immersion. I'm quite loving it in Judge Eyes as well from what little the demo lets you explore.

Pretty much. Assuming its December 2019 (as they always tend to put out games in that month) it'll have been a 3 year gap. And the only time they came that close previously was Yakuza 5 to 0 which was 3ish years - Yakuza 5 was December 2012, 0 was February 2015.

Thinking about it though, 2013 was a lean year for the series, all we got (I think) was the remasters for 1 and 2 for Wii U. I'm struggling to find anything of note in that year. Probably why I wondered if the series was done especially after 5's ending (at the time). Then again, they were saving Ishin for 2014 for the PS4 release in Japan. 2012 was insanely stacked - Dead Souls for us poor overseas gamers! Black Panther 2 in March, 1&2 HD in November then 5 in December. Still doesn't explain how I still have never started BP2 especially with the year long pause in 2013...

Still debating whether to keep my preorder for FOTNS. I could do with saving the money this month, and other than the amazing finishers, the demo didn't blow me away. But I adore the yakuza games and I know I'll regret it if this game becomes hard to get down the line.

Best description on the game I can give you is my last post on the game here:
https://www.resetera.com/posts/6760191/

Basically I love the combat but wish the game was longer. Its a grindy plat but unless you hunt trophies that won't affect your fun on the main game. Interestingly enough it seems a couple of trophies have leaner requirements for the English version, but the main grindy trophies are still untouched so I've no idea why they bothered, not like you can plat it any faster!

Shinada feels like he should've been the first chapter in Y5, but was rejigged to the last chapter after Y4 kept you away from Kiryu for so long so that people got annoyed and they wanted you to start with the main man. It was weird that the tension and pace built throughout Y5 and then you got to Shinada's chapter and everything slows the fuck down.

Also Y4 was proof to me that the series could work without Kiryu, because he's by far the least important main character in that game and the Daigo stuff was contrived just to give him something to do.

The
Kiryu/Daigo fight in 4
was the best part of the ending to me though, it'd have been a way weaker game without it (and that's the last positive thing I say about him for a while).

Only issue with having Shinada's fight first in 5 would be some narrative hooks wouldn't make sense - namely the whole Yakuza reveal and the "mysterious person" who reaches out to Shinada. Both those points were introduced in Kiryu's plot. Maybe rejig it to have had Shinada after Kiryu? Then again, Kiryu's chapter is probably the most action packed... Either way, his and Shinada's are my favourite plot wise, but I loved Saejima's from a set piece standpoint as well, just the pacing was off by giving you two prison chapters, one town chapter and one city chapter, Should have been one condensed prison chapter, a town chapter and two city chapters seeing as when you hit the city a ton of content all opens up finally. If your like me you probably took forever to complete Saejima's final chapter because there was just so much to do.

Thanks for that. I think you've sold me on it!
Happy to help :)

Yep, that moment sold the ending for me.
While I saw every other boss coming a mile away in the ending, this one I did not expect. Now while I do like to joke about Daigo I still felt him stepping up and taking Kiryu on in the game was fantastic. Helps that the "For Faith" remixes in the boss fights were amazing as well. Darn it, I want to replay 4 so bad... I hope this remaster gets a date soon!

Hello guys, J75 here. Just joined resetera. Been a long time lurker of this site and this community since the old site and long time Yakuza fan and i'm happy to finally be here to talk some of you guys about some Yakuza goodness. I'm looking forward to being part of the community and seeing what the future holds for the series.

Just ordered the Yakuza 3 remaster import, can't wait to replay Y3 at 60FPS.

Also been loving the PC port of Y0. Is not perfect and it has a couple of issues but its still mindblowing this game is even on PC. Can't wait for Kiwami. The games look gorgeous at 4K.
