Apparently 'Face ID' will keep improving the more you use it.

Maybe in a week from now my brother won't be able to unlock my phone lol.

It's amazing what great lengths and the amount of negative comments on the iPhone on nearly every mobile phone related video on YouTube. It's like everyone is bashing the iPhone like a trendy bandwagon thing and putting those who buy one. I use both Android and iOS fyi.

I am seeing "Xiaomi is better", "Pocophone is better", "XXX Android is better" in every video, it's getting amusing. One YouTuber was even saying, other than the hardware and build quality, a $300 phone beats the iPhone hands down - it's like saying a $30 watch is better than a Rolex minus the hardware. And most of these are from Indian users (at least their names suggest so). My colleague told me Android is so huge in India and perhaps that's why.

Every year is this issue. I still find the phone overpriced to hell but I still got one on JOD since I have no principles.

Is there an issue with the whole LG panel situation on this? I know some units have LG panels and some have Samsungs - are there any noticeable differences?

Wifi and 4G has been perfect on my XS? Really have had not a problem on this one since I got it; even the transfer over was flawless. Maybe 4G is better in general here in Singapore though - all of our coverage issues are due to concrete rather than antenna location.

Anybody have a good recommendation for a wireless charger with fast charge? Want to put it on the bedside table, but on Amazon at least, it seems like there's a substantial price difference between 5W and 7.5W chargers.

Looking for some suggestions here as well. Also, I think the Xs and Xs Max now support 10W charging?

Was looking at this. Anyone else use this? Down to $10 with code MACHO524.

I'm debating taking back the silicon case I got from apple because of how much lint it picks up while in my pocket, drives me crazy.

The leather case feels nice, but I have concerns about what happens to that case when it gets wet. Any thoughts?

I have been using Apple leather cases on my phones since they existed. You shouldn't worry about rain or splashes or anything like that. But I wouldn't let it sit in a puddle or anything for an extended period of time.

Also, I pretty much only recommend the black leather. The colored ones, especially bright colors like red, pick up and show dirt and grime very visibly.

But I absolutely love the black Apple leather cases and I don't ever see myself using anything else.

For fast charging on the cheap, Amazon reviews say this $16 charger will fast charge the X (and thus presumably the Xs): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076K7VYRT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Looks like the reliability isn't the best but it has an 18 month warranty. Still need to buy a USB-C to lightning cable (I bought 2 for $15 each on Amazon yesterday but they're OOS now, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CMN7DCX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) but still comes out to ~$30 total if you can get the cable on sale, which isn't bad all things considered.
Btw, received this charger and the cable yesterday and can confirm they fast charge. It's crazy how fast it charges, definitely worth the $30 to get at least one, IMO.

are these third party ones any danger to the battery at all?

I'm looking into buying a pair for my MAX.
I'm hardly an expert on this, but my understanding is that since the phone itself controls the power it's receiving, it should generally be fine. From reading the reviews it looks like some people have issues where the chargers themselves are breaking (either they won't fast charge anymore or they stop charging all together) but those issues hardly seem common, and no one has reported any damage to any of their devices themselves (outside of one person saying it made their iPad Pro act funny while charging... but also unclear if they were using an Apple or a 3rd party cable).

No reception issues but wifi has been slow

apps take minutes to download when they used to just take a few seconds

hoping for a software update to fix it

it hasn't been anything THAT bad, but definitely a little annoying my 7 downloads apps faster than my XS

I've noticed this on my 7 Plus after updating to iOS 12 the WiFi is much slower. Hopefully they release an update to fix the problem.

The XS Max is my first X series iPhone. Losing the home button has made me realize something that real bugged me about the older iPhones. Because the home button had to track for single, double, and triple taps, whenever you pushed the home button to go home, it had to wait a split second to see if you're going to press it again for a double or triple tap. This causes a slight delay whenever you want to go home. This doesn't happen when you swipe to go home. That slight delay going away makes things so much faster and seamless.

Battery life on my Max isn't quite as good as I was expecting, and seems just on par with what I was getting from my X when it was brand new. Kinda disappointed.

Yup, you're correct. From what I've read, the getting the authentic USB-C to lighting cable is what matters most.

Most brand name fast charge power bricks should be fine.

I was also on 16 GB before getting the 64 XS.

Deleting photos after a day out (aka transfer to computer), having no extraneous apps (aka games) on the phone.

Makes sense. I also need to do transfers to computer. I have all these messages taking huge chunks of data too. Do you delete them after awhile as well?

Hmmm... I lost stereo sound today, on every app all the audio was coming out the bottom speaker, a restart eventually fixed it.

I think iOS 12 needs a bit more work.

I need a deal that discounts the hardware, not this service credit thing. Does this exist?

My employer pays for the service bill, but not the device. Looks like the current deals would just save the employer money only while keeping me locked up.

Will have 2 phones (need to buy both), 3 iPads, 2 watches on the plan. 2 kid phones pending eventually..

My current bill from ATT breaks it out by number so I just have the employer pay that. Using 6 and 6 Plus currently so it's time.

Nope, that's how the carriers keep you locked in. They generally speaking will never give you a break on hardware, they'll just credit you something every month.

Face ID was great until I found out my lilttle brother, who's a good 9 years young than me, is able to unlock my phone.

I might end up disabling it now.

As far as I know the security white paper Apple has out on Face ID specifically says that young kids may be able to unlock phone's because their features haven't finished forming or something.

Yeah it's weird, I've had way more glitches on the GM, both for my iPad and now XS, than I ever had during the beta cycle.

Anyone using a X case on a XS? If so, are there any issues in terms of the camera bump?

I'm going to pick up a XS for my wife today and was looking into picking up a cheapo X case for protection until the XS case I ordered from Amazon arrives, so I just wanna make sure that the fit would be ok.

Tried a clear Spigen case and I can't do it. Going caseless! I'll probably just throw the case on when I go hiking and stuff like that.

So with my expected delivery date being today, UPS finally updated my tracking for the first time since the 21st. It's still just sitting in China 4 days after being cleared to leave.

My UPS driver is just like dicking around in a circle around my house. I don't get it. Maybe it's because it's still before the delivery window?

Makes no fucking sense.

I heard some mobile services are doing credits for shipping screw ups, at least.

How hard are people running them? I'm doing what I consider some decent usage on my Max and ending up with 70+ percent by 8 at night. It's incredible compared to my 6.
Compared to your 4 year old phone, yeah.

A site did a controlled test of the battery life on the XS and found it to be below the X.

Anyone else think the bluetooth connection on the XS or XS Max sucks or is it just me? I'm getting way more disconnects with my headphones now than I ever did with my 6s+. I'd get a disconnect maybe every 4 or 5 days. Now I'mg getting a few every hour or so. Same headphones.

Just talked to Apple. They are just citing a carrier delay and telling me to give it more time.

FedEx meanwhile is moving right along getting the empty box for my old phone to me.

It seems kinda fucked that they've already charged me the first month on IUP last week and I don't even have it yet.

I wish I could replace my signal bars with battery percentage or at least the headphones icon when I'm using AirPods. I only need to see signal bars when there is no signal.

I don't put much stock in battery life tests. I can't think of a single phone I've owned that's had it's battery life (with my usage) reflect what's reported in tech site reviews. So far, the XS is lasting a lot longer than my last few phones. I'm actually really surprised that it didn't lose a single % of battery life overnight. I seriously thought it was normal for smartphones to lose around 5-10% overnight because it's been my experience for the past few years with Samsung and LG.

My iPhone XS max doesn't appear to be outputting sound in stereo (talking about the phone speakers).

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a hidden setting that needs to be toggled?

Stereo is gonna be the receiver up top and the speaker on the bottom. The side that has only three dots isn't a speaker it's a microphone.

Just clarifying because that's been confusing people for years now, especially when they were the same number of holes on each side of the Lightning port

Jesus, I scratched my screen and I don't even know how. There was no dropping or rubbing against anything I'd consider scratchy. I thought I'd be okay going a few days without a screen protector.

Be careful, people. I put my 7 plus through the ringer for like a year after my screen protector broke and had no scratches. I think these new fancy screens might be more scratchable.

(In my head last night)
"Man this thing just feels so big"
"It's so long, definitely longer"

Then I pulled out my 6+ to compare and was 100% sure it was going to be significantly longer and of course they're both exactly the same size. I knew this too due to the dimensions from earlier in the thread but my vision and perception hasn't gotten used to it yet. There is some validity to saying due to the screen space being bigger how our fingers have to travel longer distances to do certain things, like X out a tab in Safari.

Oddly enough, asI sit on the toilet right now unleashing a devastating BM below, I get the sense it's not "feeling" as long and bigger anymore, not sure why. I think the closer I put it to my face the less "long" it feels.

Has anyone returned their Max for the XS? Was there noticeable improvement in terms of usability with finger distance and stuff? I'm a tall dude with decent sized hands, maybe a little above average, not huge though. Fuck I gotta get used to this but I dunno. What a rambling mess of a post.

That's the new glass they're using. Since the X, the glass has been super soft to prevent shattering. For ten years of smartphones I never had a phone with a scratch. Less than a year with the X and it looks like I live on the beach. I'm not alone in this either. Lots of people have had the same experience on forums.

Be careful with the new aluminum watches too. I think they're using the same new glass. My series 1 had no scratches after two years through the ringer. My series 4 had a scratch in 24 hours. I'm going to return it and get a stainless steel with a sapphire screen.
