Him and Daniel Day Lewis are in a league of their own imo. He's one the few actors that's fantastic in everything that he's in. Anyone doubting him being able to pull off the Joker is a clown.
Phoenix does look good but I'm not sure how comfortable I am with making the Joker's origin into a sympathetic sob story then following his exploits as a serial killer. That's too morbid and in bad taste for my liking.
I have no quams about Phoenix playing Joker. My issues comes from the fact that Joker isn't Joker Batman and Todd Phillips is writing/directing. People can cite Killing Joke all they want as a Joker "solo" film, but Killing Joke is nothing without Batman, Gordon and Barbra and i don't particuarlycare for his origin from the book.

Joker doesn't need an origin let alone a 90 fucking minute film about his origin.
The Joker doesn't usually have scars
I can buy the idea as far as Martha being mentally scared and losing her sanity but to extend that to her being a criminal mastermind and assuming the role of Joker is bridge too far for me to cross.
Tony Soprano, Walter White or any other TV anti-hero have hours and hours of character development to discuss the damage they cause to others and themselves. Even then I do think they are somewhat glorified not only by the audiences but by their creators (Tony maybe less so). I have little faith in this being a good character study which can navigate around the issues of celebrating a serial killer. The Joker works best as a foil to Batman, where the details of his morbid crimes is not the focus but serves as a challenge to Batman's ideals. It's died down quite a bit now but even Ledger's Joker inspired too many "he's right you know" hot takes.
I definitely want to check that movie out. Sadly Netflix and Hulu don't have it. Personally I really enjoyed the movie "Her" and "Walk the line".
Character studies about terrible people have existed long before Breaking Bad and The Sopranos. And why are you assuming the movie would be celebrating the Joker? Nightcrawler wasn't celebrating Louis BloomI can buy the idea as far as Martha being mentally scared and losing her sanity but to extend that to her being a criminal mastermind and assuming the role of Joker is bridge too far for me to cross.

What do yall think will happen if this movie does really good? Like 800mill good? What could happen with mexican cartel Joker?.
He's never gave a bad performance. If you want him to see him in full gonzo mode look up his "doc" on becoming a rapper I'm Still Here.
He's full on nutso there.

Thanks for stating the obvious. Of course character studies of terrible people have existed forever. I mentioned Breaking Bad and Sopranos because that's what the poster I was replying to brought up. I'm saying in this instance I am skeptical of this being a good character study because of The Joker's status as an iconic celebrated character, because big budget comic book films are rarely good character studies and because The Joker works better when he's not the subject of a deep character study. Painting a realistic psychological profile of The Joker doesn't work for me because his actions when lifted out from comic book reality into the real world are horrific. It can only be done if you make it appropriately disturbing, repellent - not sympathetic. Happy to be proven wrong though because I like the character and I like Phoenix.Character studies about terrible people have existed long before Breaking Bad and The Sopranos. This isnt a big budget comic book movie though. And given the influences, I highly doubt they're going to make him sympatheticThanks for stating the obvious. I think, and hope, so. That is one bad ass look for the character and it's actually much more in line with his "original" design, yet with some edge to it.So is this real? Seems like it.

If real then I dig it

I don't get the resistance to the mere notion of a movie? What's the fear? That it will ruin character?
No.So does anyone else feel that the look treads too closely to that of Heath's Joker? 'Cause that's kind of where I'm at right now...

Yeah, I think it's the hair that's throwing me off honestly....The hair for certain but the rest is it's own thing.
I'm not a fan but I could see it growing on me.
I do like the idea of his skin being bleached but clearly they are going for a make-up look like Ledger in TDK.
I like it! Different but good. I've always been keen on a Harlequinade inspired Joker design so cool to see them give it a try. Plus it's a step away from the done to death Chemical Vat look.
Eh, I do like that this explanation makes more sense from a practical standpoint, But I think I prefer the idea that the Joker simply looks like the Joker. No makeup, just the clown prince of crime.Well, that is the origin story of the character, at least in the comics.
I do like what Alex Ross said in regards to the Joker where he basically stated that he thinks the Joker has bleached white skin but everything else - the hair, the red lips, etc. - are his own added cosmetic flourishes.
I'm starting to feel sorry, this isn't part of Reeves' Batman. I didn't like the test shot teaser, but those leaked photos + videos all look great.
