After Nintendo and this getting in the news (al though they've been doing this stuff since forever), maybe the hate on videogame companies can be a little more nuanced, because it really seems that some people are sometimes forgetting a company is made up of actual people.

Well, anyway, beautiful gesture, and yes, it must be great to make someone that is in pain and has to face the end of life smile, if only for a moment.

He's a dying kid, that M rating doesn't mean jack if he won't live past this year. Plus he gets too spend some time playing his hobby one last time. If a dying kid wanted to play Wolfenstein 3 or something, I'm sure Bethesda would accomodate too.

I got no problem with him trying to have fun with a videogame it could be Resident Evil if that is what he likes but I understand the more negative views. If we'd be talking Spyro or Mario everbody would know he enjoyed a game that is more suited for his age group.

12 years old and already being terminally ill. It's so fucking sad. Terrible. He should be at a beginning of his youth life at this age :/

That's one brave kid, I'm glad he got a chance to play his favorite game.

Fuck cancer.

It's not fair. It's not fucking fair a child's life will be taken when they have so much yet to experience.

That's fucking heartbreaking.

Nice of them to do that. It's things that making social media not just a curse but a real blessing. I hope if I'm ever in the position to do so I would help others out like this.

Shit man, there are so many things I can think of in my life that I'd want to do, at first I was like "I'd want to see this, or try this. Isn't it silly to want to play a game like I've been doing all my life"
But thinking about it, I'd really want to get some of my best friends together, and sit down and play Smash Ultimate with them. I'd want that sense of familiarity, of normality, that nostalgia. Video games brought us together.

I'm really glad the kid got to try something he loved.

The kid is dying and people are worried about what long term effects the M rated game is going to cause him. God. What is wrong with people.

I think a lot of people don't realise what death really means in a way that's not just a definition.
It's hard for people to realise that one day everything you know will be gone forever, so they stick to what they do know just to not contemplate that fact too much.
I don't think it's mean spirited, it's just a lack of realisation about what dying really means in an existential way.

My grandfather died of bladder cancer, one of my uncles died of brain cancer and I've lost several friends and relatives for other reasons. I just know that being close to dying doesnt entitle anyone to anything, and it also doesnt excuse bad parenting.

Hopefully when your ban is up in 3 days you can come back and realize that you don't know shit about this kid (other than he is dying) or how he has been parented, and that you were stupid for taking this route.

You done concern trolling? Cause these parents are about to lose their child soon and I doubt they give a fuck on what constitutes good or bad parenting right about now. Plus, a lot of us played Rated M games years before recommended, we're fine. The rating is just a recommendation, not a guideline. Kids mature in their own pace, and parents ultimately decide if they can handle it or not. You don't get to make that call.

I think it is a nice gesture and all, but there is one thing that bothers me about this.

Fallout games are usualy rated M/18+.
Fallout 76 is 99% going to be rated M/18+.

Why are they letting a 12 year old child play this game ?

And why is a 12 year old wishing to play Fallout 76, a game from a franchise whose latest entry (that was also rated 18+) released in 2015, when said kid was 9 years old ?

I suggest that you read through this thread before you pursue this line of irrelevant inquiry.

This bullshit is what bothers you? Not that a kid is going to die.

When did you see your first rated R movie? Play your first M Rated game? If you weren't mature enough at 12 to do eiher that explains things.

Fuck how hard is it to consider the kid has probably going through tons of treatment and has had plenty of times to play these games? What does it matter when the last one was released?

Do i really need to spell out that it sucks that a child is going to die ?
If you really need that spelt out to know it sucks, there are so many things wrong with you.

I am not criticising the parents for letting him play these games, nor do i see how anything about me has anything to do with a company distributing content that they themselves agree to be rated M to a minor.

There are plenty of places where it is indeed a crime to sell M/18+ rated games to minors, so i would have assumed that the devs in question would go ahead being a positive example.

Your right.. the devs should have gone the positive example route. Deny a dying child one of his last wishes to uphold a rating system that is not legally enforced in this country. Such a higher priority.

HOW is it that people just can't help themselves with the lazy concern trolling. the kid is dying. If he'd ask to have a drink, I'd offer him some.
Your fake concern is tasteless and pathetic.

Wow. 3 days is way too lenient for you.

My heart goes out to this kid and the family. It's very touching of Bethesda to go that extra step to bring him some measure of joy in his final days. Kids should not have to deal with cancer.

I know you're banned but your comment about bad parenting is such a fucking huge reach for this specific scenario. How out of touch can you be dude?

Fantastic! I will remember this kid when playing Fallout 76! Maybe he even gets to become a NPC of his wish in the full game?

Isn't companies/celebrities volunteering for ill kids quite a big thing in the U.S though?

I read the other day about a dying boy who the director of Breaking Bad offered telling how the series ended to.
The boy rejected since he was looking forward to watch the next episode on TV.
Kind of heavy series for a kid though was my thought.

I guess we all become extra sad when this kid' playing Fallout which is about people in a dying world. Kind of gets extra depressing but hell no Fallout rocks! Every kid loves mutants right!?

You don't know shit, bruh.

Nice gesture here. I can't imagine trying to cope with the knowledge of your life ending at such a young age. So sad to think about. There is so much they won't get to experience. A little joy getting to enjoy a game they are excited for and people are going to take a moral high ground take on it? Lol get the fuck out of here.

Very happy to see studios involve themselves in this

It is a huge and meaningful thing for a wish from someone who is so sick to be helped with

There are few things in life that are this important if any

The real tragedy is you thinking it's wrong for devs to give a dying twelve year old his final fucking wish. Sociopathic.

If you've been so close to death and terminal illness then you must know how utterly meaningless shit like an ESRB rating is when you're fucking dying or when a parent is losing their fucking child. Get some perspective.
