Controversial opinion here, but aside from some VERY glaring omissions (Dixie, Spring Man/Ribbon Girl, Octolings) we are already in relative nobody territory when dealing with Nintendo characters.

Obviously considering we've gotten Daisy and K Rool.

But that shouldn't really matter, Smash has never been about adding only the biggest names, since 64 they've been throwing in characters from relatively unknown series like Earthbound. I don't expect half the roster to be niche characters or anything, I'm just hoping that putting a spotlight on a few smaller nintendo series each game hasn't been abandoned with this entry. It's one the most unique things about smash, being able to see smaller series like Mother or Xenoblade (at the time of Shulk being added, anyway) appear in a crossover when they would normally never have the chance to do so.

I remember back in 2008/9 when Minecraft was in beta or whatever and nerds loved it for being a sandbox game with lots of freedom and I saw no hate online. Then kids started latching onto the property and opinion in enthusiast forums turned upside down.

Eeyup, Minecraft was super popular before it became popular. I found out about it during the alpha because it had gotten so much praise online.

Cool point about Xenoblade is that it's now a bigger series. No idea if they would get this far without the brand recognition from Smash.

Series like it and FE were helped by Smash a lot. So even going by the "money route", it makes sense for Nintendo to promote their smaller stuff and improve their brands. I wish series like Custom Robo or Advance Wars had reps in previous games, it's not 100% sure they would be alive, but it would improve their chances well.

I actually still read 2011-2013 chatlogs of my minecraft adventures w/ friends. Good old days

Shame the new chatlog system splits everything by day by day basis, now its harder to read chatlogs :(

I actually prefer Smash without any 3rd party characters whatsoever. Now that the floodgates have opened though, I just think that the Minecraft would be a way bigger deal than Cloud, Snake, Simon, MegaMan, etc, (not Ryu, Sonic, Pacman though), and he would make sense considering how much Minecraft support Nintendo consoles have gotten.

Still though, I'd like the majority to still be Nintendo characters.

Octolings, Pearl/Marina, Rex/Pyra, Isaac, Wonder Red, Spring Man, Elma, Incineroar, Tom Nook, Hades, would all be perfect! I don't mind Kirby getting another character (after all, I do have Kid Icarus getting another one, and that's way more niche), but I'd prefer anyone else over the Bandana guy.

Nintendo alone has so many characters they can still add, and each of them would feel totally valid.

I believe Shulk's inclusion in Smash helped the Xenoblade series greatly. The series is probably big enough now for Shulk or Rex to appear in a project x zone type crossover.

I think a character from a new franchise is always more fun to see than a new character from an existing franchise, but it's harder for me to make the case for one-off guys like Wonder Red

there are too many hard working recurring C-listers in line ahead of him

I mean, I never have Wonder Red in my most wanted. I still would be pretty happy with him tho!

Lip and Ayumi are my impossible dream picks that will never ever happen.

I really doubt that the entire Xenoblade series didn't get anything new between Smash 4 and Ultimate, with two new games released in that span. Maybe not a character, but a new stage perhaps.

I really hope we don't get any Xenoblade music on Wednesday, lol.

I'm glad I'm not some silly Smash purist when Smash already has fucking Bayonetta in it. It's only going to get "worse" from here, and I can't say I'll have much sympathy.
I don't care much if third parties get in either though I do agree with those that believe there's still a lot to get out of unrepped Nintendo series

Yeah, for sure. There needs to be a balance. Just feels weird for me to be upset at say, Simon Belmont when I'd say he's a more iconic Nintendo character than any unrepped Nintendo series. I think it's more complicated in cases like Cloud, where the character isn't an iconic Nintendo character. As long as they are rare though I'm ok with it.

Define nobody though. Cause Daisy is more well known than a good portion of the roster.

I'm going to support the owl from 100 Classic Book Collection. The "game" allegedly sold more than Wonderful 101, so, if that's the low hurdle one needs to overcome to "deserve" to get in, I'm rooting for owl!

Not yet.

That's a weird situation. I would've thought it would be announced now if it was a early 2019 game like Bayonetta 1+2 was this year... but evidently not. I still believe it's happening, but not right now.
Well, Bayonetta 1+2 was announced in December and released in February. News for the Wonderful 101 port could probably drop any time.

Wasn't said that the W101 thing was PG trying to show Nintendo there was interest for a W101 port or something like that? We do know Platinum really wants to port it, what's hard to know is if Nintendo cares about letting them do it considering how much the game bombed.

I will begrudgingly accept Steve if Sora is also included as that rumor suggests.

That said, I still don't believe Steve is actually in.

My only hope for the W101 is that they will actually represent the replacement of the polygon fighters or whatever incarnation of them in 100-man battle. I personally feel that would be a way more meaningful way of representing them than pushing them into some weird multi-character and would also make 100-man brawl a ton more fun and interesting, especially if they give the meaningful W101 characters one or two unique moves representing their gimmick.

I reckon Waluigi will struggle to get a spot next time too - he's still got to compete with Captain Toad and Paper Mario (assuming neither make it in this time). It's kind of a 50/50 shot for him.

That doesn't explain the evident blank space on Ryu's row on the non-visible side.

It's there to keep blank spaces on both sides, rather than leaving one with 0 and another one with three. It's also probably why they're doing this weird jumping around between numbers rather than just following the website order.

I'd say his chances are zero for as long as he doesn't set foot in a mainline Mario/Wario game or a major game of his own.

The thing with Waluigi is that he's still a relative nobody because he's yet to star in any mainline game whatsoever. At least Daisy had Super Mario Land going for her in that regard.

Sure he's popular with some fans, and that might push him over like could happen with Geno, but in terms of actual Mario/Wario relevance he's less important than Lubba

(personally I'll be rooting for Pauline next time around, just give her some fun Mario Vs. Donkey Kong + music related moves or something)

I think Xenoblade was on it's way already with Project Rainfall and Xenoblade X was being pushed as a major Wii U title pretty much as soon as they had something ready to show. Xenoblade X was revealed even before it had a name

Yeah it was being made, but the games selling as well as they did is what was surprising and probably the branding got a lot of exposition because of Smash. The numbers we have for X are pretty good for a Wii U game (even more considering the system was basically dead at that point and RPGs are very niche). Xenoblade 2 doing 1.4M is crazy high as well.

I wouldn't assume so, since popularity got K. Rool in before Dixie. Seems like it would be a similar case with Waluigi.

I mean, K. Rool was the main villain and final boss of several high profile DK games. Yes, he's been absent from his series for awhile, and yes, the ballot influenced his inclusion, but nonetheless he still had far, far more credentials to be playable in Smash than Waluigi ever did.
