I was wondering if this thread was really what i thought it would be LMAO .
OP we have surpass that by far a very long time ago .

Please do yourself a favor and go watch some of the RE Engine games. That's where the best current models in videogame industry are.

Nah IMO ND has them beat because of animation.

You're obviously delusional. That video doesn't even show the entire pre release video.
That's not comparing it to the CGI video, but rather to an early version of the intro. Both pieces of footage in that video are real-time, and the final game is clearly improved.

This is the CGI video from 2005:

I thought the 2005 dev kit used for the TGS MGS4 demo had 2x gtx 7800 (not gtx 6800) in SLI. The 6800 was a 2004 card, 7800 was 2005, so by the time of TGS 2005 they would've been using 7800s.

16 ROPs (2x) - 256-bit memory bus (2x)

The PS3 RSX was a gimped gtx 7800 with 8 ROPs and a 128-bit memory bus. So 60fps, the higher quality lighting model and higher polygon count was not going to happen for the final game.

You might very well be right, but I seem to remember they were using 2x 6800 to have similar performance as one 7800.

You seriously trying to tell me the crappy fallout 4 models and their animations look better than mgs4?

You said, "and many other current gen games." And yeah, the models do look better,e specially when you consider that, in F4, you can manipulate the model.

Overall model quality was severely downgraded in 2008 final version, plus sub-HD/30fps vs 1080/60 of that demo.
It was most certainly not 1080p and none of the videos we have are 60fps. The model quality was not obviously reduced apart from maybe Snake's ears, it's a bit hard to compare because his design was changed twice before release (though I personally think the 2005 design looked better). The lighting is probably more advanced in retail where the environmental shadows are rendered in real time.

It's weird how this demo is held up to this mythical standard when the final product probably matched it from a technological standpoint. In terms of cut scene direction and I agree that it blew the actual game out of the water, but that probably comes down to the difference between a nine minute pitch and nine hours of cut scenes.

Earthbound
I lost track what's going on?
The basis is confusing

As someone else pointed out especially because OP has a DMCV character as avatar lol

Has to be a hard troll imo

If it's not a troll thread, which I find a bit hard to believe, but still possible..... all you have to do is open character viewer in Uncharted 4 and you can see wildly more detailed characters

Ya but from what I played, mgs5 was very empty with sparse environments and lots of empty landscapes.

Mgs4 on the other hand was littered with buildings and towns you went thru. Perhaps that's why 5 was able to achieve 60. Just my two cents.
MGS4 is also linear while MGS5 is sandboxy. sandbox games have additional hurdles to overcome to hit 60fps that more linear (or at least, tightly enclosed areas) games don't have

also note that MGS5 was 30fps on the PS3

I... dont know what to say about this thread.

I think OP stopped playing games after MGS4 last gen? Because we had stuff like Halo 4, TLOU, Beyond Two Souls, God of War Ascension, etc. on PS3/360 last gen and... they all looked significantly better than MGS4.

OP has to be trolling or is a time traveler that just arrived from the past.

Do you not own any current gen consoles? Just a Switch perhaps?

The best that consoles have to offer is way way wayyyy past that MGS4 demo, you could argue but its 60 fps, yes, a controlled cutscene with no gameplay is always easier to pull off, like the Uncharted 4 reveal for example

It's not an apples/apples comparison, but I feel like even in the same generation, late-cycle games like The Last of Us matched that MGS4 demo in all ways except for the lighting.

The final game did not manage to emulate all the technical features of the early demo [since final PS3 harware was weaker than early devkits], but still, it was still one of the most impressive games on the PS3 when it came out. It rendered visuals that were very ambitious, great looking characters, varied locations, and in many moments it looked quite spectacular. Plus I really liked the story and the epic ammounts of fanservice, Kojima really served the longtime fans with great ending for Solid Snake.

I am still waiting for a nextgen remaster, hopefully it will happen one day.

Makes me feel all nostalgic that this is a thread where people are talking about MGS4 en Killzone 2, love it.

Eh, I'd say that the MGS4 demo visuals has been surpassed a long time ago...
The only thing that could be seen as slightly impressive now is 60fps since many games mentioned here are 30fps, but then again with the upgrade consoles we've got that box checked as well on plenty of games.
