If they just slapped it together, why is it in the weird 9 pattern?

They just slapped it together in a neat pattern, clearly!

Then this hypothetical intern in charge of place holder box designs probably printed it out grayscale, ran it up to Reggie's desk where he said, 'It's brilliant! Send this to Amazon right now! I have leaks to prevent!'

Actual 5 Nintendo characters that need to be in:

1. Spring Man
2. Chorus Kids
3. Chibi Robo
4. Isaac
5. Wonder Red

They deserve it.

It's very likely a real pattern. No one would come up with a 9 pattern that gives a space for Ken and makes all newcomers be in one side.

Also, you should believe in the box anyway because it's our best defense against the block trash.
I just think it's a classic case of pareidoila. Maybe their .psd file with all the character renders has them in lines of 9? The only thing I know for sure is there's literally no reason for them to be organized like that on anything approaching a final product, even ignoring the Ken thing.

A "neat" pattern that switches sides of the box mid-line?

I'm glad I'm not some silly Smash purist when Smash already has fucking Bayonetta in it. It's only going to get "worse" from here, and I can't say I'll have much sympathy.

I can understand Steve not being a character you want in the game. I can also understand wanting Steve to not be in the game. What I can't understand is believing that if Steve was in the game, he'd be uninteresting. You'd have to have a SEVERE lack of imagination to think that. Not every character has to show their personality through facial expressions and voice clips/dialogue. The way personality is displayed for MOST of the characters in Smash is through their movesets and other animations. You already know that Sakurai would have a field day with Steve in those aspects. If you don't think Steve would fit in visually (or think he has a bad design), that's a different story. That said, I guarantee he'd look and fit in better than you're expecting, even if you still don't like it. I can already foresee all the posts saying "You know what, I really didn't want Steve in Smash, but he looks a lot better than I was expecting".

Yeah, Sakurai never disappoints in making characters fit right into Smash. Steve wouldn't be an exception.

>>Wonder Red

I usually have some real niche picks but c'mon here

Then replace Wonder Red with Advance Wars or Style Savvy or something. Point is, we could use some new Nintendo franchises on this roster, all we've gotten is Splatoon so far.

Why is wanting more Nintendo series in a Nintendo fighting game being portrayed as a bad thing?

The franchises from Nintendo itself that make it in are usually multi-million sellers. No way TW101 gets in. It's why I'm hesitant about Golden Sun after all these years.

Yeah I know, I'm not expecting anything beyond a remix for W101 because of its poor sales.

Rhythm Heaven, Golden Sun, and Style Savvy are all million sellers though and I'd love to see any of these get better representation. ARMS too but it's DLC territory.

Golden Sun 1 and 2, yes, but after Dark Dawn it is a very long shot. Isaac's time was in Brawl.

I mean, I only casually follow this thread and I've had to read you and Heartskip feeling this strongly several times. I can only imagine the regulars of this thread having to listen to it for far more than I have.

Personally, I see characters as Bayonetta and Simon as iconic Nintendo characters and I don't see them as less fitting just because they happen to have a different owner of the IP.

And K Rool's time was in 64.
K. Rool belongs to a series already represented in Smash AND he had the DK crowd massively showing up support for him (by going into Best Buy and voting multiple times). I never saw the same level of enthusiasm with Isaac. I'd say I saw more enthusiasm with Shovel Knight!

Controversial opinion here, but aside from some VERY glaring omissions (Dixie, Spring Man/Ribbon Girl, Octolings) we are already in relative nobody territory when dealing with Nintendo characters.

Rhythm Heaven was big enough for Sakurai to plan a rep for Smash 4, so I would put that in the "glaring omissions" category personally.

You could counter that by saying that it isn't big enough as it was out-prioritised by other new franchises; but whatever.

So bad to want Nintendo characters in the only Nintendo big crossover game. And no, several people here want more niche Nintendo picks as well and have to deal with the bs "purists" thing from the people that only ask for 3rd party stuff, while calling people's nintendo characters "nobodies" or bringing up sales like this is the only thing that matters (this actually sounds like AAA/mainstream gamer elitism). Maybe people should come up with a term with bad social connotations to define the third party supporters as well (no, we shouldn't because this is extremely silly).

I too want the car from Stunt Race FX in the game
I would enjoy it a lot.

I don't know why you feel the need to antagonize me when the only thing I said today was said by several other users these last few days. I don't think I even posted anything for more than a day until I got a mention anyway.

I remember back in 2008/9 when Minecraft was in beta or whatever and nerds loved it for being a sandbox game with lots of freedom and I saw no hate online. Then kids started latching onto the property and opinion in enthusiast forums turned upside down.

I actually believe Rhythm Heaven needs a character. The series has always been very popular in Japan and Rhythm Tengoku Gold rode the crest of the DS hype wave.

The biggest factor against RH is that it doesn't really have a mascot, hence why fans can't decide between the Chorus Kids, Marshal, or Karate Joe.

People are simply pointing out the realities of character popularity as it pertains to the Smash roster; I'm the one jerk who is still repping Saki Amamiya in this thread but I don't let that cloud my expectations. No need to get defensive about it.

Yeah I wonder if the people hating on Steve have ever actually played Minecraft or they're just being internet hipsters.

I'm not actively wanting Steve or anything but if Sakurai wanted to put him in I'm sure he'd be a great character with a lot of charm.

Minecraft is one of my most played games of all time (if not most played) and I love the game a lot and I've been on a kick with it again lately. Still don't want Steve in Smash.

Not antagonizing, just sharing my view of things. You're free to share your (same) opinion as many times as you want.

Different people? I never liked it as I don't like sandboxes and most open world games are simply devoid of fun to me. I still think it's very possible to enjoy a game somewhat and dislike aspects of it: it's ugly, the youtuber worship culture it created sucks and promoted a lot of shitheads, etc. Also, there are people here who said they like Minecraft, but they don't care or want a character in Smash, which seems pretty normal -- I love Shin Megami Tensei, but I don't want any character in Smash.

Most of the stuff I like is considered childish too anyway, which I guess is the same for many here considering this is a Nintendo thread.

People are simply pointing out the realities of character popularity as it pertains to the Smash roster; I'm the one jerk who is still repping Saki Amamiya in this thread but I don't let that cloud my expectations. No need to get defensive about it.
But character popularity isn't everything. This game is still a Nintendo crossover, so wanting to see Nintendo characters isn't a "purist" thing. You can play as most big third party characters in several games, they get lots of sales, are promoted to hell, etc -- while this is the only chance for fans of stuff like Wonderful 101 to get some representation.

This industry is already way way too focused in a few big games and it's certainly not healthy. It's boring to take a look at sales charts every month and see "GTA, FIFA, Minecraft, CoD". Smash not being more of the same is cool.

Not antagonizing, just sharing my view of things. You're free to share your (same) opinion as many times as you want.
I don't go namedroping you "man, you can't even want nintendo characters anymore without chauzu calling you a purist".
