The girlfriend and I have been playing this via coop, and it's been fantastic (even better than the first).
I haven't tried 4-player coop, but I imagine it's even more crazy.

If anybody is on the fence, this is my attempt to convince you: This is one of the best coop games I've ever played on PC.

Did the PS4 HDR support get dropped? Pre ordered this but was waiting on a new TV before I played it. Just got a C8 today but when I start the game, HDR mode doesn't kick in?

I'm thinking about putting the game down until a patch comes out to fix the input (nothing has been announced or acknowledged yet). I finished up the last combo training last night and it as a real pain because of the input issues. Getting better at the game really makes you notice when it isn't working properly.

This has to be an issue that doesn't affect everyone, I refuse to believe that QA and most reviews wouldn't have noticed

I finished this last night. Overall I really enjoyed it, but it didn't really feel like it advanced much beyond the first game's ideas. The characters were neat, but again not quite as likeable or memorable as those from the first game, and I felt like a lot of the platforming was cheap and relied too much on instant-death spikes and dimension-hopping (which again featured heavily in the first game). It was good, just didn't quite bring enough new ideas to the table for my tastes and felt overall too similar.

Visuals are gorgeous though and I loved the music. Presentation is all-around some of the very best for a 2D indie game, and the combat is always fun.

EDIT - I too had the occasional missed input, which seems extra annoying in a game like this which requires so much precision. It probably only averaged about once every half hour, but considering I never had any issues with the controls in Guac 1 on PS3, Vita, STCE on PS4 and even what little I have played on the Wii U, it makes it seem extra-noticeable here.

No HDR, but 4K support as per drinkbox Twitter. Just downloaded it today. Can't wait to dig in tomorrow night. This was one of my favorite games a few years back. I hope it's just as fun.

Anyone know if it's easy to Platinum? I played the OG on Steam.

It's easy and can be done in a single playthrough if you use the cheat the unlock Hard from the beginning.

Given the need to complete the chicken key challenges - and then the crucible - I wouldn't call it "easy" but it should be do-able for most people here with enough practice/persistence.

Kamek - what I'm referring to are a set of challenging platforming sections (and one combat gauntlet), optional for beating the game but required for the 'good' ending and the platinum trophy. Think along the lines of the treetops from the first game, though perhaps just a little easier.

I'm hyped for it. Thanks for the tips on getting hard mode early ERA. Just did that. Combat seems pretty decent so far, but just about an hour in.

I LOVE the soundtrack, and the colors are really popping for me on my 4K TV.

Taking my time exploring the Jade temple. Man I LOVE the platforming challenges in this game. And I love that I can pick it up, play for 15 mins. Hit a save point, and go about my life afterward. This would have been perfect for switch.

Sank a good 14 hours into this game so far. Played on hard mode. The chicken key in el infierno took me about 4 hours on and off to complete but I had fun doing it. I think I will try to go for the platinum in my spare time.

I loved getting all five of those golden keys, even if I felt that the button/directional inputs were hit and miss sometimes, but bugger me sideways, the chicken illuminati challenge is so, so hard!

For me, it seems to be leaning more so on luck than skill, and the button/directional input is at its highest than any other point in the game, and is usually the reason why I make a mistake, despite not actually making a mistake... if that makes sense?

My enjoyment of the game is fading away now. I believe I am at the part where you have to avoid those trio of red spikes whilst switching time AND pollo sliding across the floor.

My reflexes are not what they used to be however, I feel like the game is at fault sometimes.

I think I will try to go for the platinum in my spare time.

How's that coming along?

I didn't find the illuminati stuff that bad tbh. Maybe 40-60 minutes to get through the whole thing. Overall I found the stuff in that quest to be easier than completing the gold medal challenges in the first game

After playing and platinuming Guacamelee on PS3 some years ago, I did the same with Guacamelee 2 this week and loved just about every minute of it. So much so as soon I was done I booted up Guacamelee STC Edition and played that through to 100% as well. Such a great pair of games, I'll be there day 1 if they ever decide to make a third.

I started this game Wednesday night and I can't stop playing it. I loved the first game and 100% it. This feels like the first on steroids, which is a very VERY good compliment.

So good, and equally enjoyable to the recent Metroidvanias I tried (Dead Cells and Hollow Knight).

Given how popular the original was, this game really didn't seem to catch on as much with people, despite being the better game.

Guacamelee 2 is now up for pre-order on Switch for a discounted $17.99

... I REALLY REALLY enjoyed Hollow Knight, I would easily rank it as my #1 Metroidvania game. Can someone who felt the same about HK compare G!2 to it? My favorite section of HK was the White Palace, and looking at the trailer G!2 seems like it also has a heavy platforming challenge, similar to something like Celeste.

Did anyone had issues with the Service Based Timeline and the platinum chest ?

I had to leave the area because I ran out of money and the timer eventually ran out, but I can't open the chest.
I think it's the last thing I need to get 100% in the area.

The game is good, a solid 7/10, but it's just too much of the same. It doesn't surprise and it's very, very linear. I'm just going through the motions. Pretty disappointed.

Finished it in about 8h. Definitely disappointed by it. The final boss was lackluster. My biggest gripe is the lengthy corridors. I don't remember the first having so many linear sections. The metroidvania aspect is entirely optional. The game could be a single linear level and it wouldn't change much the experience. The platforming never ramped up in difficulty, almost the opposite in fact, the final temple was easier than earlier sections. Not enough platforming mechanics were introduced regularly compared to the first. Only the snakes and the moving spikes controlled by dimension-shifting were really new and interesting platforming challenges.

I still haven´t finished it, but am nearly the end so I think I have a solid idea of what the game has to offer. I´m enjoying the game a lot and would instantly recommend it. These are my strong and weak points:
  • Platforming challenges are alright, specially the ones for the special key (have picked up 3 pieces), I enjoyed those a lot, tough but fair.
  • Combat is great but I feel like the player hits too hard: Enemies die mid-combo so I´m always left disatisfied (I left the damage up upgrades for the end to try to fight this with no sucess). I would´ve wanted for the game to use more puzzles of colored enemies instead of the dark/light mechanic and maybe make the enemies invulnerable to attacks of other colors because combat was a bit too easy. The dark/light mechanic adds complexity, but not depth.
  • The Metroidvania component is almost non-existent. The game is very linear and always pushing you to the next story event, there is really no exploration. Secrets always branch out form the main linear path and loop back to it.
  • The colored blocks to hide secrets is too obvious...it was my main complaint on the first one and it hasn´t been changed.

Is the Proving Grounds DLC worth it?

Nice, I've been waiting for this to drop on Xbox. My kids enjoyed the first one to an extent, based on the difficulty of some bits.

DLC is on sale on EU PSN at the moment. Proving Grounds is totally worth it. Got all gold medals last night. It's just a rehash of the Infernio challenges from the first game but for less than £2 there's definitely enough content to justify it

Costume DLC not so much. You're basically paying for trophies

My PC crashed during gameplay and now my save is corrupted - which totally sucks as I've put in just over 9 hours. I Just beat Uay Pek.

Would anyone be willing to share their save file with me? I really cannot see myself putting in these lost hours again.

I bought this on Switch during a 40% off sale and it was fantastic. I played the first one awhile ago back when it was a free game on PSN and I enjoyed that as well but this sequel goes above and beyond. It's just crazy how fun and satisfying this game is to play from everything to movement, exploration, combat, etc.

Something about the ending though, and I'll put in spoiler tags just in case.

When Juan went back into the portal at the end and they showed him confronted with an infinite amount of timelines I thought that was definitely going to be the premise of a third sequel, but then they show him reach his family years later. I think that's kinda a missed opportunity and neat scenario they could have done for the third game where different doors led to different levels or themes to play around with, the ideas could have been limitless.

Oh well, either way I hope DrinkBox eventually does make 3 down the line.

Just beat the game. Final boss was kinda weak, huh? I faced him with Javier (for the trophy), who takes extra damage from the final boss, but I still got him on my second try (once I knew how to see that charge move coming). The snakes beforehand were harder.

Does he get harder on Hard? Or if I get all the keys maybe?

At any rate, I immediately started playing a new game on Hard, and look forward to getting all the trophies for the platinum.

Finally platinum'd! I platinum like 1 game a year, so this is worthy of celebration (despite this game having a fairly high platinum rate of ~9%). Tons of fun! Plus I got the good ending on hard, and the game ranked me in the top 100. Wasn't expecting that, I wasn't speed running at all while playing.

I decided to get the good ending on hard mode, which I thought might have been a mistake when I reached the gauntlet before Javier, but I was able to get through. Javier x3 wasn't that bad once I figured to herd them into a corner and repeatedly pollo slide them until the ones without shields died.

Final boss was still a fucking joke on hard. Beat both his forms without dying, without even abusing infinite pollo shot.

To the challenge DLC!

I just started playing this over the weekend. Just as good as the first. really enjoying it. But damn was I a nervous wreck trying to work my way up to that chicken key piece in the sky...
