I finished this last night. Overall I really enjoyed it, but it didn't really feel like it advanced much beyond the first game's ideas. The characters were neat, but again not quite as likeable or memorable as those from the first game, and I felt like a lot of the platforming was cheap and relied too much on instant-death spikes and dimension-hopping (which again featured heavily in the first game). It was good, just didn't quite bring enough new ideas to the table for my tastes and felt overall too similar.
Visuals are gorgeous though and I loved the music. Presentation is all-around some of the very best for a 2D indie game, and the combat is always fun.
EDIT - I too had the occasional missed input, which seems extra annoying in a game like this which requires so much precision. It probably only averaged about once every half hour, but considering I never had any issues with the controls in Guac 1 on PS3, Vita, STCE on PS4 and even what little I have played on the Wii U, it makes it seem extra-noticeable here.
