Mine was Sonic 2 on Sonic 2sday in 1992.

First game to be marketed around a specific date really, though I'm sure before that you could've just called the shop to see when they were getting a particular game.

First pre-order ever. I still remember Wal-Mart being assholes about the whole ordeal too and my mom absolutely hated having to deal with it. It was so bad she wouldn't let me pre-order anything else till years later when Devil May Cry 4 was coming out. Crystal's still a fantastic game though. Lot's of fond memories.

Devil May Cry 1, which I pre-ordered when I purchased my PS2. Still have good memories of getting home after class and playing it all afternoon. Dante holding a marionette in the air with two pistols was the coolest thing I had ever seen.

2001 was the year I got my first summer job, so I was able to buy a lot of those famous Fall 2001 PS2 games on release day.

I think for me, that was Smash Bros Brawl. Yeah, I tend to grab games either a day or two after it came out or didn't really play them right away after they came out, but I remember going to the midnight release, getting my copy and played it until the sun came up.

Super Mario RPG, didn't even know what an RPG was at the time, but I loved the look and being the prospect of playing as bowser. I was not disappointed, to this day it's one of my favorite games.

Final Fantasy VII. I was following the development and any shred of news on it from gaming magazines of the time. First game I remember following that much, and pre-pruchasing a copy of from a local rental place.

As a gift, I think it was Pokémon Ruby. Either that or Gold, but IIRC Gold was already out by the time I got it.

By myself, it was Dead Island. I still regret that decision to this day. At least I traded it for God of War III though.

I don't know for certain if it was Mortal Kombat but Mortal Kombat was the first time I remember caring about a release date. My Dad even tried getting it early for us from multiple stores. The "Mortal Monday" marketing worked very well on my 10 year old brain. I was sad when I later learned the SNES version was censored as I also had a Genesis but was a Nintendo kid.

I can't remember. Maybe Starcraft. I remember being pretty hyped for it since I really liked Warcraft 2.

Back in my pirating days, I used to get ALL the games on day one...

In my little corner of Spain, it was super hard to get games day one the legit way, because there were almost no stores that had games, and there weren't any malls other than malls that had only tourist-y stuff. There must not have been more than two stores on Tenerife that had Amiga games :(

It got better when the PlayStation and then the Xbox came out and consoles got big.

The first game I really remember buying on day one was Wing Commander 3 for the PS1.

The first one I can REMEMBER is Star Fox 64 cause I had it reserved and they called to tell me to come pick my shit up and I had to beg my parents to drive me into town.

I only ever got games on my birthday or christmas when I was a kid, so the first game I remember going out to get day 1 was Brawl.

Ocarina of Time, I was 12 at the time and I had loved alttp before it. I liked it but I didnt like it quite as much as the Snes prequel.

I think it was Tekken 3 for PSX. April 29th, 1998.

I HAD to have it. I saved up all my coins and even cashed in on my birthday a month ahead of time (my birthday is May 21) just to get it and the strategy guide (which is still at my grandmother's house).

I honestly cannot remember. Having a dad who was a gamer it was never really something I had to worry about, I remember having most big games day one from Snes onwards. With my own money then it was probably Tekken 3.

That was personally just for me that I actually got to play the day of purchase?

Possibly WWF Warzone for the PS1. I'll never forget being so hyped for a game at that time....all based on a small picture shown in a 3-games-on-1-page preview in GamePro from the April/May 98 issue.

Fun Fact: GamePro promised a ladder match. Nope!

Pokemon Platinum. Was soooo hyped for it. Came out the day of my families trip to Disney World. Was a fantastic 6 hour drive. Well worth the hype, one of the best Pokemon games.

Final Fantasy VII, I think. I don't think I'd ever preordered something before or had the same anticipation.
