no i don't necessarily think dying in a game is a bad thing, for example in a game like super meat boy you die 50 times on a level and have fun doing it. i see what you're saying tho. i may get the game eventually, because i really like the look, atmosphere and the aesthetics of the game (i think i've watched like 10 speedruns of the souls games in AGDQ marathons), and i also like what i hear about how the game's world and story are revealed through environments and descriptions.
Some impressions after playing in portable mode for about an hour:
- Looks good, runs smooth. Although the text looks really weird in portable mode. Not illegible, but weird.
- The network part of this network test was...not great. I got summoned once, and when my summoner was killed his character just stood there motionless for a solid 5 seconds before the game registered his death. I invaded probably 6 or 7 times and no session felt even close to lag free (though some were better than others)
- Man switching the A and B buttons around really screwed me up. I hope that's can be switched on release.
- The sound is HORRIBLY compressed. I hope it's just to keep the file size of the demo down, but I have a bad feeling Namco is trying to save money by using a smaller cartridge.
The Pyro class start with a bow and you can't aim with gyroIs it confirmed that there is no gyro aiming in the Switch version?
LB and RB are awful for attacking and blocking in the joy-cons. They are just too thin.
And yeah, I also screwed up several times because of the A/B swapping button stuff.
No gyro aiming and reverse A/B button are deal breaking for me. The port is good from the technical stand point, but in this state it doesn't "fit" the Switch at all.
Dammit, why is the confirm button the B button? Is there any way to switch it so A is confirm while B is cancel?
That's not the point. Most games on Switch use gyro aiming, why not Dark Souls? It's becoming a de-facto standard.Bows aren't how you should be playing Dark Souls in the first place. There are literally tens of viable builds you can go through before you have to do a bow build.
That's a relief to hear. I already preordered the game, and I prefer a "swapped XBox 360 Inputs" for playing Dark Souls (B is used to roll, A is to check stuff while Y is swap two-handedness and X is use item.)Not in the network test but it should be there in the full game.

I'm starting to think the weird framerate issues people are encountering are network related. (Attempts at invading/being invaded)

Because aiming is such a small part of the game that it's not needed. For bow aiming you'll be locked on most of the time anyway, and when you aren't you'll be far enough away from enemies that aiming doesn't need any time to do.
I know, but you said "it's still online." Fortnite, Paladins, etc. are online too. Don't require a sub.
Important note about this demo: this is the third "area" in the game, so you don't get the same tutorials you do in the real game. This game doesn't explain anything either, and I mean anything.
seems like a demo not aimed at newcomers, but more for people who are already familiar with souls game.Ok so it is actually really difficult but, so far to me at least, not in an enjoyable celeste like way. It's really slow and ploddy and I'm just holding block then stab and always die at the archers. When I did finally get past that bit I feel off the bridge, got wrecked by the insane charging rhino and died and now can't pick up that helmet again.

There is definitely a dynamic resolution thing in play here. Next to the boar there's a body on a stake being burnt. Have your character face it then position the camera so that the fire is in front. I'm right in front of the screen and, at the moemnt, it seems that the resolution is switching back and forth between 1080p and what looks like 720p every few seconds.
EDIT: Found another area where this happens: right outside the bonfire room next to the statue and looking back towards the Undead Parish area. It's really weird, like there's a blur filter being toggled on and off every second. It could potentially be a bug but it makes me worried about whether some of the more intense areas will drop below 1080p in the final game.
captain toad is native res?! it looked very blurry when i tried the demo.People thought the same thing about Captain Toad but that turned out to be running in full, native 1080p docked/720p handheld at all times.

niceIt uses a soft hazey filter in the lava stages; giving the impression of a soft look like on Wii U, but it is indeed 1080p docked and 720p handheld.
While it runs notably better now, I got to say that I am not convinced if this title will work well undocked in terms of gameplay. Just feels off and less intuitive when playing handheld. Everything is so small, not only the menu but also the enemies on the Switch screen. I am really skeptical about this. Imagining fighting bosses on that small screen... eh.
It was just for capture sake.Gotta unequip (most of) that armor to get rid of the fat rolling. With good rolling that's definitely the easiest build for the demo.
I was not. Were you the guy who invaded me? That Dark Knight armor man...
Only character for the test that can invade is the Black Knight. Were you the guy who invaded me? That Dark Knight armor man...
Wow I am rusty. It's been a minute. I used to tear through these areas and now im dying on the stupidest shit lol
Nothing wrong with you posting this but I got a good chuckle. Truly feels like I'm in 2011 all over again, haha.Ok so it is actually really difficult but, so far to me at least, not in an enjoyable celeste like way.
